MAC & Mickey Contractor Review, Swatches, Photos

At first glance the MAC & Micky Contractor Collection does so deceive. I was thinking, “eh, probably nothing here to see…”

However, there is a gem or two in the rough even if you think the collection might not be suited to your skin tone. The shadows are all wearable in my opinion and one are two are really keepers, the fluidlines will easily be a must have if you’re a fan since the colors are stunning gem shades, and believe it or not the concealers in the lighter ranges might work well if you prefer a more lighter concealer (I always go lighter with my concealer).

Obviously MAC is gearing the collection towards a specific skin type so not everyone will be able to take advantage of some of the base options in this collection however the color products are definitely a go particularly if you like nudes (the lipstick shades are all very nude-ish and beige) or bolder shades (the shadows are all extra bold).

Let’s have a look at some swatches.

The shades are all amazing and I particularly felt like Oomph and Saffron were two gorgeous shades. My brown eyes simply love a good green and Oomph’s blackened green is stunning, I’m very eager to create a look using this shade. Saffron is a combination of coral and caramel that makes up a very unique shade particularly for those who love a good coral.

Rani and Marvel are also two great shades. Rani is a beautiful popping pink and Marvel a deep purple. I do wish I can take advantage of Marvel individually but it’ll probably age my eyes sadly so I’ll have to use it as a liner or in combination with other shades.

Both Fluidlines are keepers and will really excite fans of this liner. Ivy is stunning and probably the nicest shade of green I own in a liner. The shade is a jewel bright green. Siahi equally stunning and a deep, rich turquoise blue that reminds me of the ocean.

Although I’m not a fan of matte formulas I really liked the lipstick shade in Mehr which is a warmer shade of blue based pink. The formula is irritating but with a little gloss on top it really gives a more polished, natural look to lips particularly when sporting a very bold eye look. I don’t have nearly enough shades like Mehr so I’m happy to have it as part of my collection now.

And finally Sur is a shade of dirty rose brown blush. This probably won’t work for everyone but with a lighter hand you can get a nice dose of warmer pink on cheeks if you’re extra careful. Those with extra fair skin might wish to avoid as it might appear dirty or muddy on cheeks.

After trying it I have to say I personally feel like the collection is a sleeper hit. At first glance it was something I could have easily overlooked and not bothered with but after trying out some of the shades, well, I’m kinda stunned. As you can see for yourself from the photos some of the items are definitely unique colors and true MAC fans will find something in this collection to rejoice over.

What do you think?

Will you haul anything?

Do share!

The collection will be available as of January 6th at MAC locations and online at www.maccosmetics.com

Honestly, I’m a little underwhelmed with the whole collection. I haven’t been able to use the products themselves, so I’m basing my opinion solely on the reviews I’ve seen online. Since I’m fair skinned (NC 20/25), I don’t find many of these shades particularly wearable. I almost wish there were more Bollywood-inspired jewel tones since Mickey Contractor is a collaborator for MAC in India. All in all, it’s a bit blah and muddy for me, although I agree that these shades would be flattering on warmer skin tones.

I think the promo pics are very pretty but will pass on this collection although i think the Sur blush is pretty. I’d be all over it if it had more shimmer. Cham-pale is more up my alley. I wish i could pull off nude lips but i’m NC20 and look awful with most nudes! Can’t wait to see what MAC comes out with next!! And i’m surprised to see swatches of the Mickey collection before Peacocky since its due out next week! Any news on it Muse? Are you hiding swatches from us :p LOL

I’m loving the Oomph, Rani, and Saffron shadows and will possibly get the Saffron and Oomph since I know those colors work well on me. I need to swatch Rani before I can think of getting it lol.

Love, LOVE the fluidline shades..I defiantly see myself getting Siahi since have a deep love for blue eyeliner. The Mehr lippie is very pretty too…but I’m not a matte lip color fan at all. The matte formula makes it look like I rubbed my lips with colored powder. :/

I am a huge fan of mac fluidline so I will defently be hauling the 2 fluidlines and I like the look of the eyeshadows in Oomph and saffron. I am also going to be getting the eyeshadow quad. The rest of the collection I am still on the fence and will have to see when I go to the mac store and have a play.

I am so conflicted over this collection. I flip and flop.
Mehr and Ivy might make it’s way to my house when it releases…
And that blush… I keep telling myself “you have Prim and Proper, and Darkly My Dear (which I love)” NO buying Sur.
We will see if I hold true to that. ha.

the green and purple eyeshadows look great!! and i think that lipstick is a really flattering colour.

  • Nia

Thanks for the review. After seeing your swatches I am really tempted by Mehr, it looks like such a great subtle shade without being one that makes you look dead.
The fluidlines are great, but I do have pencils along the same lines, so I’ll skip. Marvel and Oomph are great and on my list. Maybe along with Mehr 🙂
Can you recommend any dupes for Mehr? TIA 🙂

  • Hina

Definately buying the lipstick, Mehr and trying the blushes … I think it’ll work well with my skintone, it’s hard to find one like that. I was debating at first but your swatches convinced me. Thanks!

Oh WOW ! I like it all !
Love the strong eyeshadow colours and love the dark teal fluidline.
Even love the lipstick as it is not too warm toned.
Possibly like Chanel Mademoiselle but cooler toned?
Warm lipsticks are not a good look on me.
Mac are sending me the ususal newsletter and this latest one has Cham Pale collection but the website haven’t got it?!?
They still have Tartan Tale and Marcel Wanders.
No sign of Sylishly yours either. Drat !

  • Elizabeth

I’m too fair to get excited over this release, but the eyeliners look nice! Was glad to see the cham pale collection is more fair-friendly, where the warm & cozy last year was more warm..maybe they’ll switch off more?

  • Kimber

I know aside from Rani (not sure how that is wearable????) I am liking everything I see!

  • sugar sugar

will have to check these out in person. 🙂 thanks for the swatches!

  • sugar sugar

must check this collection out in person! the swatches are gorgeous! 🙂

  • Leslie

I will definitely get Rani, since I have missed a lot of MAC’s limited edition colors that are better than sushi flower (that one doesn’t look great on me). This one just looks absolutely gorg. I also want to get a Ivy and Mehr. Its a nice collection it looks like, not too overdone, just simple.

I’ll be getting both fluidlines and Saffron. The rest looked like dupes in my collection or I didn’t like them.

  • Jane

    Hi Muse,

How does Mehr compare to Cosmo, Twig and Fastplay? I have all 3 so I was wondering if Mehr would be too close to these colors. Thanks 🙂

  • Brittany

Definitely! I am looking forward to both fluidlines as well as the Gulabi and Mehr lipsticks. I’m actually not too big on the eyeshadows nor the blushes. I am fair-skinned (NW15) so I don’t think a lot of these colors will look good on me.
