Tokidoki Royal Pride Hercolino Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

As you know the TokoDoki Cromatico Eyeshadow Palettes have gone on clearance at Sephora (Yay for makeup on sale). As cute as these are I didn’t really love them as much as I do the newer limited edition Cromatico Palettes that Sephora has started doing.

Let’s break it down….

The original palettes featured four shades of shadow, a charm, and a smaller cube packaging. The newer palettes feature six shades of shadow, a smaller charm, and a larger cardboard style packaging.

Although bigger in size, I find the new Cromatico Palettes cuter plus I actually like the addition of two more shades of shadow.

Which do you prefer?

Old version or new?

For Fall 2011 the Tokidoki Royal Pride Hercolino Palette takes to the jungle for a safari adventure in the rough and tough terrain.

A TokiDoki palette for Fall featuring six shades of shadow.

Tokidoki Royal Pride Hercolino Palette is delightfully littered with all your favorite TokiDoki characters on both the inside and outside of the palette. You have to love the design as each time you look at it there’s something new to see! The palette flips open on either shade and on both inside flaps the design followers through.

Inside you’ll find six shades of shadow and the middle features a spot for Hercolino who carries a ring in his mouth. He has a small clip so you can use him as a key chain, a zipper pull, a cell phone charm, etc…..The palette actually comes in a plastic makeup bag that also features a small Tokidoki Cactus Dog.

The shadows can be used on their own for individual eye looks or combined together to create any number of looks but Tokidoki set it up in a way so you can get two complete looks using three shadows each. On the left side the shades are a little cooler (not by much) and on the right side warmer.

Shades include:

  • Profumo (matte dusty rose)
  • Elettica (sparkling gray green)
  • Ippo (dark purple)
  • Lion Pappa (pearlized bronze)
  • Patatino(cream)
  • Hercolino (pearlized chocolate brown)

Formula is amazing here. The shades are pigmented, with some having a velvety feel, blend easily, and work well together. The texture of the shades does vary…I found Lion Pappa, Hercolino, and Ippo very velvety and soft, kinda like Stila eyeshadow. Where as Profumo, Patatino, and Elettica had a thinner, silkier texture with a softer color pay off.

I admit I liked the warmer side of the palette best but the softer shades on the left aren’t too shabby either.

I love little Hercolino but I hate it leaves a gap in the palette when I remove him. Sniff! I have to be sure to fit him back into place if I take him out to wear or use on a jacket, purse, or keychain, otherwise the palette looks incomplete.

I love that they include a cute makeup bag to store the palette in but I find it a little difficult to jimmy the palette in and out of it. You have to be a little careful less you end up destroying the zipper or ripping the bag if you’re going to use the bag for storing the palette.

  • Anyone who enjoys cute yet pratical makeup pieces.
  • Those who put lot funky packaging.
  • Those wanting a few shades of shadows that work easily together to create a warm Fall look!
  • Tokidoki fans!

  • Those who are into higher scale, posher makeup pieces (the design may be considered a bit immature for some, it’s a matter of taste and preference).

I personally loved Tokidoki Royal Pride Hercolino Palette. Of course, I might be bias as I adore anything with really cute packaging but we have to remember what’s inside also matters and in this case the makeup inside is just as lovely as the packaging that holds it. I was pretty impressed with the overall formula and texture of the shadows and found them easy to work with and blend out. If you’re a fan of Stila shadows you’ll have no problem getting on board with this palette as the texture of the shadows runs the same as they have a smooth, buttery feel. The warmth of the shades are perfect for Fall and you get the benefit of really sweet packaging.

Likey!

Alot!

Very Muse Approved for purchase!

Hauled it, of course! I love these warm shades on your brown eyes! Warm or orange shades are like purples in that they make both brown eyes and blue/green eyes pop imho. I don’t like the bag for the reasons you stated, and the empty spot makes me not want to take the little Hercolino charm out, too.

    • the Muse

hey sarah aw thanks chica! <3! Yeah, the palette seems empty without him ;-D I just stopped using the bag to store the palette, I tossed my makeup in it instead as the palette is too big for the bag and may break the zipper…!

  • kiwikiwidragon

I really like mine but I agree about the bag and zipper on the bag, awkward to say the least. The bag strikes me as useless, its stiff and hard to maneuver.

    • the Muse

as a makeup bag it’s fine, but it’s difficult to store the palette back inside, I’m scared I’ll break the zipper :-/

I was on the fence about this one, but decided not to get it :/ i mean, how many neutral shades is too much in my collection?! haha

PS have you done a review on the summer one? It’s the same price and same kind of packaging except I think it features a different keychain, etc.

    • the Muse

mmm olivia I feel you! I have ALOT of nudes lately in my collection but who could pass up on this cuteness? ;-D I haven’t but I did buy it…gotta review it soon! ;D!

  • Soo

I actually didn’t like this palette as much as the Devil Girl one. T^T
I mean, granted, I would’ve gotten it anyway because of the packaging and cute tokidoki charm, but color payoff just really disappointed me with this one. maybe I got a dud palette 🙁

  • Ashley

I despise the old packaging (too chunky = waste of space). I haven’t paid attention to the newer releases but I loved seeing the Robbery palette on sale a few months back. It’s a sign that waiting for sales at Sephora is not lost!

  • Maria

Oooooh I want! Plus, if the other summer inspired palette is on sale then I definitely want that!. ^_^ Love me some good TokiDoki! Thanks for the heads up muse!

I really wanted the Robbery palette but I missed the last day of F&F and thought I would just wait until VIB but it sold out. I’m so bummed. I’ve had my eye on it for a while – I wanted to give it to the little girl who lives behind me. She’s got some issues and is a little socially immature for her age (she’s sweet 16 this month and they are having a surprise party for her).
THe reason I wanted to get it for her is she loves to draw anime characters and I thought the tin would be a cool plus. The palettes would be her introduction to eye shadow. Oh well… some things are not meant to be.
I am going to Sephora tonight for the VIB party so I’ll check out what they have there that is in my price range. This also looks like a cute gift and the colors would be a perfect into to shadow IMO.
