What to Purchase During Sephora Friends and Family 2011: The Palette Edition

With Sephora Friends and Family 2011 in full force here are some helpful hints on which palettes are worth the haul.

Love them or hate them you can’t deny that palettes are where you get the most bang for your buck. You can spend $25 on a single blush or you can indulge in a palette that will range from $39-$55 that includes several blushes, several eyeshadows, and possibly more.

Of course, palettes suffer downfalls sometimes and quality isn’t always up to par with the standard line of cosmetics offered by your favorite brands plus let’s not forget contending with creams and powders in one cramped place. But if you can get passed the drama of palettes you’re in for a treat because darling they do so offer the very best bang for your buck.

Here are some suggestions and recommendations for the best palettes to snatch up during Sephora Friends and Family 2011 since 20% off sweetens the deal even further doesn’t it?

  • Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette In The Nude Retails for $28 After Discount $22.40

As far as I’m concerned this palette is Sephora’s sleeper hit! Made up of 10 sparkling shades of nude/natural shadows it’s the perfect combination palette for those who love sparkle, baked shadows that can used wet or dry, and of course, nude/natural shades of color like brown, gold, and heck even a little purple is sneaks into the mix of things. It got my Muse Approval when I reviewed and swatched it a few weeks ago. If nude isn’t your thing there’s a brand new smoky one available called In the Dark. (Review and Swatches)

  • NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette $52 Retails for $65 After Discount $52

Think of having six shades of NARS cult favorite blush at your fingertips including popular shades like Orgasm and Super Orgasm…got you excited right? This palette is a NARS first and a great deal.

  • Hello Kitty Beauty Noir Eyeshadow and Lip Gloss Palette Retails for $49 After Discount $39.20

The writing is one the wall for this palette…lip gloss and powders in one tight space? Oh boy mess! And I’m taking a bet it might be Made in China, I don’t mind much but some folks do…but who can resist the gorgeous Hello Kitty packaging? I’m not passing up on a chance to own this cheeky little kitty particularly when I can get it at 20% off!

  • Urban Decay Naked Palette Retails for $48 After Discount $38.40

Are their seriously people who don’t already own this one? If you happen to one of the unlucky messes to not own this one, well, I think you’re absolutely crazy! Get it, get it now! It’s one Urban Decay’s best palettes in my humblest opinion and brings home some seriously lovely shades of nude, natural shades! (Review and Swatches)

  • Stila Beach Girl and Travel Girl Palettes Retails for $14 or $10 After Discount $11.20 or $8

You might be tired of these girls but you can’t go around denying that some of the color selections in these palettes were actually pretty darn awesome. Don’t miss out on Living the Life in Laguna and Wonderful in Waikiki.

  • Lorac Bejeweled Day & Night Jewelry Box Retails for $56 After Discount $44.80

I haven’t personally indulged in this palette myself yet but it is in my Sephora FF cart. The thing is, last year’s set was awesome but I do feel perhaps some of the shades look like a bit of a rehash from last year…however, I can’t deny the value here as this is jammed back with lipgloss, eye pencils, 32 shadows plus blush and let’s not forget the lovely packaging! (Review, Swatches, and Photos of Lorac’s Train Case for Holiday 2010)

  • Tarte The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity Retails for $52 After Discount $41.60

I haven’t tried this one but we all have to sit back and think about how much effort went into the making of this palette. Tarte really did an amazing job with this one which featured a mirror panels, sparkling inlays, and pull out drawers plus let’s not forget about the amount of products stashed inside this gorgeous vanity like 24 Eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, and more!

Yeah, it reeks Fall but the Tortoisehell Eye Palettes are some of my very favorite palettes to date from Bobbi Brown and feature an array of nude, natural shades that are sure to please.

Tarina does blush right dolls and this palette features four of her popular blushes in one sleek palette!

  • Stila In The Light Palette Retails for $39 After Discount $31.20

This little guy can easily be overlooked but it includes 10 high quality (I’m not using that term loosely considering Stila’s track record lately) eyeshadows in wonderfully natural colors!

  • Too Faced Eye Shadow Collection Palettes Retails for $36 After Discount $28.80

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for the Too Faced Eyeshadow Collection Palettes and during Friends and Family they become even a better deal. With several shade selections to choose from plus instructions on how to get the look for three different eye looks per a palette you got yourself an easy entry into creating the perfect eye look!

  • Too Faced Sweet Dreams Makeup Collection Retails for $52 After Discount $41.60

I find Too Faced Holiday Palettes sell out fast…this one probably won’t be any different. Yes, they are pretty bulky but the novelty is the packaging here. It’s different, fresh, and quite exciting for those who enjoy cuter makeup pieces plus inside you’ll find some very high quality makeup as Too Faced doesn’t scrimp on quality with these palettes!

This is just a few recommendations of palettes I’ve tried and enjoyed in the past plus some that are currently guest starring in my Sephora Friends and Family cart. I took time out to sort through some of the better values and I hope it’ll help you make your selections today!

Happy Hauling!

Feel free to add anything in that you think is a great value as I’m sure others will find it very helpful!

ooh of course I love the Sweet Dreams palette and it’s totally worth it even more with the discount! I saw the Tarte palette in store and it is a really nice set too. I even think the full price would be worth it, so it’s awesome that you can get it even cheaper. the Stila palette is a good buy too! totally agree with your picks, Muse

    • the Muse

Soo, *nods* def! The too faced well worth it at full price as is the tarte ;-D 20% just sweetens the deal girl! ;-D aw thanks! Any recs you’d like to add?

  • Boone

I’m intrigued by the new Laura Mercier Book of Nudes palette (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P298100&categoryId=C12210). For $48 (less 20% of course!), it has 8 shadows in a nice mix of finishes, a cake liner, and 3 “Cream Veils,” which appear to be basically cream blushes. It looks awesome, but the only LM product I have ever tried is the tinted moist. I’d love to hear opinions about her color cosmetics, because I’m completely torn on whether to pull the trigger on this one.

    • the Muse

I haven’t tried that one yet boone 🙁 but worst situation you try it, hate it, and can just pop it in the mail and get a full refund right? ;-D sephora rocks on exchanges!

  • Laura

I have that Naked Palette and LOVE IT. Use it weekly still one year later. Some people don’t like it – but I think it makes a great “come hither” eye, just get dramatic lips – and ROWRRRRRR!

What I need is a good brown palet te for brown smokey eye – I’m not into the Naked Palette for UD, because of all the shimmer.

    Any recc?? Anyone some input?

    • Laura

OOPS I have TF Naked Eye – and dislike UD Naked cuz of shimmer – thought I’d clarify – whoops

    • the Muse

mmmmmm how about the bobbi brown one? It does have shimmer though….I have a hard time reccing stuff without shimmer ;D

  • kimkats

Are the tokidoki palettes in stock now? I checked earlier today and they weren’t! ‘course Sephora.com is in the toilet right now so I can’t check *anything*, but if the tokidoki’s are in stock, I’m getting several of them! They’re ADORABLE!!

    • the Muse

no kim someone just said nay sadly 🙁 but we have until nov 2nd so hopefully it’ll be updated ;D!

  • Christina

    Hi Muse,

I don’t think the Tokidoki palettes are available yet. At least they haven’t been available to me–I get the Coming Soon message!

Too bad. They would be super cheap with the discount!

    • the Muse

      I just noticed damn! :-/ but I imagine they’ll update shortly…we have until nov 2nd ;-D

  • Brooke Lehman

Can anyone tell me if the Too Faced Sweet Dreams repeats any of the Romantic Eye, Natural Eye, etc. palettes? I don’t want to get it if it’s a bunch of repeats…

    • the Muse

brooke ummmmmmmmm I don’t think so but put the shadow name from sweet dreams in the search engine at sephora and it’ll pop up what palette the shadow appears in ;-D hope that helps!

  • Connie

great ‘shopping list idea’ post 🙂 crossing my fingers that the NARS palette comes back in stock.. i hesitated on ordering it at midnight and decided to sleep on the idea.. bad choice!

  • Audrey H.

Oh man, this sale has me all a flutter! Lol! Was just going to buy perfume but I sure love a nice palette! Oh the temptation! heh

  • BooBooNinja

Grr..I just tried to place my order. I am Canadian and thought that I could work around the F&F US-only restriction by using my American shipping address. No go, because Sephora will not let me use my Canadian credit card. 🙁

  • cyra

Oooh I was going to get the Naked palette from UD but it sold out before I got to it. I ended up getting the too faced sweet dreams palette instead (as well as the UD Rollergirl Palette bc it was on a mega sale!). I am quite satisfied 🙂

  • Let

They haven’t stocked the new Tokidoki Arte pallette you posted earlier this week… 🙁

Also, I kinda want to purchase the UD 15th Anniversary pallette, but they are currently out of stock 🙁

  • Jenn

I wanted to try the NARS(never tried anything NARS yet) and TT blush palettes, but both out of stock. I don’t want to wait for fear of my other items getting sold out. But there’s always VIB Holiday, which hopefully they’ll do and they will be back. 😉 I’m hoping! Going to get the true blood palette and Too Faced Sweet Dreams. Really want the MUFE Flash palette too…but I am going to kill my wallet. I am already over-splurging, justifying it’s my birthday! I don’t even NEED any more shadows, haha. The life of a cosmetics addict!

  • BooBooNinja

Any thoughts on the Sephora Favorites mascara set?
Do you guys think it’s worth it to get a set of minis?
I won’t be able to take advantage of the F&F sale (grrr…) but I’m interested in all of your thoughts on whether this is a good deal. I may have read somewhere that department stores sometimes give out mascara samples for free. I’ve never dared to ask. Is this true or is it an urban myth? 🙂

  • Christine

I saw the huuuuge lorac set in sephora and was so tempted to buy ( I’m in Canada so i guess no discount anyway:() it looked like such a steal since the palettes were sparkling like crazy (the cover) I don’t know if I’ll regret not buying but I’d def pick that up if not the tokidoki or ud naked 😀

  • Marina

Oh, Muse, I am such a bad girl XD
I totally forgot to order my beloved Korres face primer with my first F&F order…I got it around Christmas las year and absolutely adored it, and actually noticed a considerable difference in my skin once I ran out! I had to go and make a second order…and I tacked on the UD 24/7 liner set in Naked (I had ordered Electric on the first order) :X
Oh well. I just won’t be buying much of anything in the next few months! It’ll be nice to get a nice big haul, anyways.
I’ll definitely let you know how those HK brushes are, and you be sure to share your list with all of us 😉

  • Audrey H.

ack Im waiting for the Naked palette to restock but wonder how it compares to the Sephora Moonshadow baked palette? Ive never used Urban Decay or baked eye shadows so have no clue, they just look good! Am awfully tempted by the Sweet Dreams set! I dont have a lot of make up lately so am sort of starting over… Thanks for these great posts.. though my wallet says ouch lol

  • Samantha

Bought the Hello Kitty palette but chose to keep the protective plastic covering over the lip glosses so that I won’t run into any accidental messes 🙂 Eventually will want the lip colors, but for me the eye shadows were the real draw!

  • CX

Augh big dilemma! Not sure whether to get the Kat von D candelabra palette or the smashbox Click you’re it palette …equal value, both have nice colors, but dunno about quality 🙁 The only downside to these huge holiday sales is that there aren’t many reviews or swatches yet!…

  • Kimryan8

OK, I did it yesterday. I got the Kat VonD True Romance palette, tokidoki soda shop, a couple of Benefit items and UD 24/7 liners. My only concern is the Kat Von D, never tried any of it. I am trusting your reviews though. Thanks for the sale tips! I would have never known to type it in search…

    Thank you for your suggestions!

  • cheesauce

I want everything! Having a hard time deciding between the Lorac holiday palette or Stila’s dream in full color palette. I have only one shadow from each brand and really wanted to try more. How do you think the quality compares between the two palettes? I know you mentioned that the dream in full color eyeshadow isn’t the same quality as the individual eyeshadows…

  • Brooke Lehman

Ugh, I ordered on 10/20 from Sephora and the order status is STILL sent to warehouse. Anyone else’s order stuck in limbo???
