Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Review & Swatches

I think one of the most disappointing aspects of drugstore makeup, aside from foundation, would have to be lipgloss. There are so many great choices available but most have short wear times, uncomfortable textures, or lack the pigment to keep a true beauty junkie happy.

What are some of your favorite drugstore glosses?

I think topping my fav chart at the moment are Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss.

Take a look, tell me if you agree!

I’d be lying if I told you I found these to be the most comfortable drugstore lipgloss around. The thinner consistency lacks tack or stickiness which is a perk and also have a lightweight, barely there texture but some reason or another they feel odd on my lips at first application.

The Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss formula runs fairly thin but not watery. It’s not sticky or tacky but has a surprisingly good grip that holds out for at least four hours of wear without eating or drinking. They have a nice light feel on lips but they are somewhat noticeable during first application and don’t exactly make you forget you have gloss in place. I find smacking my lips together a few times removes the strangeness of the gloss feel and gets things smooth and soft again. The glide is fairly nice even on drier lips and the sponge applicator has a nice flexible tip so it contours to lips in a smooth, even slide as your apply the gloss. Color payoff is fairly nice here and can go from sheer to medium within a few layers. The glosses have a faint sparkle, subtle little gleaming finish that isn’t too disco ball-ish or over the top sparkly.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss aren’t the most suburb gloss formula I’ve ever tried but they are as close to great as you can get at the drugstore. I find the gloss selection a bit lacking at the drugstore. Eyeshadows have definitely evolved in recent years as well as other products but I think gloss formulas need a little work. Colorburst Lipgloss proves that brands are starting to pay closer attention to the gloss formulas they are putting up and out there in the budget world.

Not great but fairly good.

Worth checking out!

    Hi Muse,

Thanks for the review! I actually also quite like these lip glosses. I picked up a few colors, I find they are pretty comfortable to wear. I really dislike the fragrance in some of the L’Oreal lip products, but from what I can remember, these glosses are either fragrance-free, or subtle enough that I didn’t mind it.

I’m going to pick up a lip butter soon! After reading about your love for Peach Parfait, I saw many others also like this color in online reviews! Can’t wait to check it out!

I’m with you, Muse, I think these are the best that the drugstore has to offer. I also like Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipglosses.

  • Angela

I’ve heard that the Revlon Superlustrous lip glosses are good? Haven’t personally tried them, have you, Muse? L’oreal Color Riche as well.

    • the Muse

haven’t angela, will look for them next trip to the ds ;-D love color riche, those are fabs ;-D

I own one of these, but it’s a great color. Wish I could remember the name, it’s got a gold shimmer under a peachy-pink base color. I think, aside from that, I own one Milani and maybe two Nyx glosses, and that’s it for drugstore? I think there’s only so much you can do to a gloss, and I don’t wear it extremely often.

I’m partial to brush applicators, too, so I just end up sticking to my Urban Decay glosses on the whole.

The color Papaya is beautiful. Looks perfect for Spring/Summer. I receive a lot of compliments when I wear it. :))

I have one in Strawberry and it does feel kind of odd on my lips. I think the glitter in Strawberry is what makes it feel gritty. It has good pigmentation but I do not plan on purchasing any more of these glosses. Maybe I’ll give Superlustrous. The L’Oreal glosses in the squeeze tube are good but I do not like the L’Oreal ones that are long-lasting and in a tube (6/8 hour wear time ones).

My favorite lip gloss of all time is Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss. I love those things, I think I have them in every color.

Dang, I wish I picked one up now when Ulta had these on sale.

These are such pretty colors, but for me the shimmer/glitter was too much and after I used Sunset Peach and the color faded I was left with glitter all over my upper lip and chin :(.

I like the Super Lustrous glosses by Revlon. My favorites from the drugstore are definitely Milani though. I think they are copying the high end brands and doing a fine job of it too.
