Yay or Nay: Sephora’s New Website

Good morning world!

How was your weekend? Your Easter?

I’m feeling terribly weekend hung over. I think a nap under my desk is in order. But we all know that isn’t going to happen, just another manic Monday around here.

At least my day starts wonderfully with a glance at the new Sephora website.

Change, I hates it but what do you think of the new site?

Meh…not bad. Better organized that’s for sure.

I still have to muck around with it but it isn’t irritating me yet so that’s a good thing. Good search function, great drop down menus, way better organized than the old site.

Yes, I think I can get used to it.

How about you?

Yay?

Nay?

What do you like or not like about it?

Do share!

P.S. Joffrey got that much needed slap across his mouth eh? This time from his mum but this is still my personal favorite….

Take it like a man bitch!

Ha!

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. I really like the new website! It did take a bit of getting used to but after exploring a bit I saw a great little Canadian flag icon at the bottom of the site. Upon clicking I discovered that it’s the same site but with all prices listed in Canadian dollars and direct Canadian check out. As a Canadian, this (and the fact that they calculate duty into the total cost) makes my Sephora online shopping experience that much better!

    • Debra

I’m a fellow Canadian too, and I totally feel the same way! Sephora can do little wrong in my eyes anyway..

      • Marlie

I spent about a day hating them last week when the VIB discount was announced – My closest Sephora is an hour from me so I was unable to make the trip to use the discount and it couldn’t be used online in the Canadian check out. I got over that fit pretty quick though!

  • Cj

Too Earlyyyyy! Can I take a nap under your desk too? I promise I don’t take up much space lol. There was wayyy too much wine yesterday. My mother thought it was a good idea to start drinking while cooking. The macaronie salad did not agree. But on the plus side the dogs had fun eating off the kitchen floor!

    • the Muse

boy you can take a nap under my desk any day ;-D Let’s just sleep until 5 rolls around and than grab some sushi and do some window shopping at the beauty counters (who am I kidding about the window part?). LOL! sounds like a fun Easter ;-D! I am so exhausted. ugh! Seriously could have slept five more hours this morning ;-D How’s your day treating you so far?

      • Majick

Just crawled out from under my desk… did someone say SUSHI? 😉

      • Cj

Sleep, Sushi, and Shopping. Sounds good to me lol! I’m exhausted too, I’m tempted to make some kind of omelette out of all the left overs but I’m too lazy lol. McDonald’s breakfast here I come!

          • Cj

Has anyone else noticed sephora’s down? Maybe their fixing some of the bugs lol

          • the Muse

you prob broke it, I don’t have doubts about your devious ways.

          • the Muse

I love the so sorry….I think ‘oh hai we fail today’ would be better though ;-D

          • the Muse

LOL! go all ninja on nordstrom, take it down for the next week ;-D not just a few hours ;-D!

          • the Muse

than tweet the lulz sec and tell them you’ve sailed Nordie’s boat ;-D

        • Cj

Omg. You know what lulz sec is. I swear we are long lost BFFs lol!

          • the Muse

LOL of course ;-D row row row your boat haha…! they were AMUSZING as hell last year, bless their little hearts.

  • Lulubelle

Maybe I’m missing it, but I don’t see the Sale section listed from the main Sephora page anymore? That’s how I start my day off, seeing if anything new is on sale at Sephora!

    • the Muse

right below the slide show lulu it says quick links, what’s new, travel, weekly specials, and sale ;D

  • Sarah S.

So far, nay, but I expect the kinks will be worked out soon and I won’t mind it anymore 🙂

  • auroragyps

So far, not so much. There’s some improvements, but I really don’t like how they don’t have each product/color listed with the prices next to them. I’m more likely to pick up a few extra items when I place an order if they’re on sale & yes, they have the sale page, but it’s nice to to look at something like $OPI & see right away what colors are discounted.

Actually, that happens to be a huge pet peeve of mine for Ulta’s site. I hate that I have to click on every color to see what’s discounted, especially when they post that there are discounted items… ie: $5-$10, but which ones are $5?

    • SusanInSFL

I waited to reply to give them time to get rid of the bugs, but it is still totally unusable. A company MUST make sure their site works on ALL browsers. We use Firefox for security purposes and we don’t even have other browsers. The site just hangs. It sits there, pages do not load. It’s a wreck.

I couldn’t even get to a page to get their phone number and their email to complain.

I always liked Sephora but if they aren’t willing to make their products available to a huge chunk of the market, then I will buy elsewhere.

  • Maggie

I hate it 😛 It has some good features, but it’s SO buggy and I find it really hard to navigate (I hate that they made the product type menu within each brand more like Ulta’s website system, which I’ve always hated with a burning passion). It annoys me that they’ve made the sale section hard to find, it always feels so tacky when companies do that. I do like that they’ve made the shopping cart a drop-down rather than taking you to an entirely new page every time you add something to your cart, I’m glad they *finally* added a Quick Look feature, and I like the way they’ve set up the individual item pages, but other than that it stinks! They could have made those changes to their original website and left the rest alone.

    • Maggie

Ah, ok, I see they made the sale page more visible. In the beta version it wasn’t there at all. At least they fixed that!

  • Phyrra

I dislike it. When I placed my order during the first VIB sale it said payment failed, and it charged me twice. When I called Sephora up to have them cancel one of the charges they said ‘well you paid twice’ and I said ‘no, your site told me that it failed the first time, and to try again.’

Additionally it’s more cumbersome to navigate swatches on the site and find colors you’re looking for. I really dislike that.

Also with the ship confirmation email, it no longer includes a hyperlink to UPS. I have to copy and paste manually into UPS’s site to track my package, rather than click a link in the email..

    Do not like the changes.

    • the Muse

i’m a creature of habit that HATES change so totes feel you court. It’s ok, but I prefer the old site. It isn’t irritating me yet that’s a good sign however I’d be pissed if it charged me twice!

  • Kim

Looks like there is still room for improvement on the site. I was in my local Sephora store today and they have Julep and SpaRitual nail polish now!! And my store had a new layout with a new nail bar. I guess it is the time of year for change at Sephora all around.

  • Ryou

So much nay. My OCD is suffering from it, the site’s layout is giving me a headache, and my poor Indonesian connection can’t handle it. >’:

  • caroline

I haven’t played with the new website via home computer but did update my App on the iPhone. Let’s say a big NAY for me. The look of it doesn’t wow me, it makes me think I need bifocals. Plus, what happen to the reviews?? I can’t read any of the reviews and this is something very important to me. i base a lot of my purchases from other people’s thoughts on the products. I sent them a communication about this and I hope it is resolved. If it ain’t broke, don’t go updating it!!

    • Joan Andruszkewicz

Big NAY for me too!!!!! Don’t like the new format at all!!! I agree….if it ain’t broke, why fix it???? I e-mailed them on Sunday a few times. Every time I found something I didn’t like, I sent them an e-mail. They’re going love me! LOL.

    • SusanInSFL

I noticed that the reviews had disappeared as well.

I vote nay, nay, nay. I vote with my dollars so, c’st l’vie. No more Sephora.

  • Katie McAllaster

Is it just me or is the new Sephora site not displaying as many products? I was looking for the single Tarina Tarantino blushes and the Dior Addict Extreme lipsticks and couldn’t seem to find them.

    • Joan Andruszkewicz

No, Katie, it’s not just you. I thought the same thing. I went looking for the Buxom True Hue blush and it wasn’t there. It just came out a couple of months ago. So where is it? They were also showing a new MUFE powder blush for the last couple of weeks in four shades. I was waiting for stock to become available and asked that they e-mail me when it becomes available. It’s not shown anymore?????? Also, in my order status, my most recent purchases aren’t there? I hope it is that they’re still working on it.

  • Fitrah

NAY: You cannot search my top-rated product anymore. Why would they take that away? It was so helpful. Big no just for that.

  • Tiffany

I don’t even know how I feel about it, cause I guess alot of people are trying to check it out so the site’s down as I type this!

  • Ninja cat

I like it especially since it now has a Canadian site. I like how there’s now a way to search whether an item is in stock at a store, not to mention I now know how many more points before I qualify for VIB.

What I miss and hope they fix is the ability to sort items per a brand by what’s new and how they used to list all the shades. Yeah it meant more scrolling but it’s a hell faster than checking every individual colour when you’re trying to find a specific number or colour or seeing what’s for sale or in stock. I might not buy from Sephora but I definitely used it as my number one reference site just because they listed every shade all at once (case in point, the Dior Addict lipsticks. I do not not want to click through 40+ shades when I’m trying to find one because I read of it somewhere and want to take a look at it).

  • Nik

Game of Thrones = awesomeness! Joffrey getting humiliated = double awesomeness!!! Did you finish Spartacus?!! Please say you did!!!! 😀

    • the Muse

lmao nik! right? slap him for me slap him for me! I DID I DID! whoa……………………..! they cast Caesar too for next season did you see? Fantastic ending. I wonder if Ilithyia is dead? or just passed out? I cried like a kid when Doctore when down and he told Gannicus he’d be waiting for him in the after life…AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW tears just flew after that. whatcha think?

  • Polly

I agree with Yana! I was going to do my chic week shopping off the beta website but saw that Chanel wasn’t available! Good thing the old website was still up then!

  • Connie

I like that the search capabilities have improved, and search results can be filtered by price, skin concern, etc. However, I the font is way too small!! Even if I try to magnify through my browser, the images enlarge but the font size stays the same. Terribly frustrating when I’m trying to get my shopping fix done with tired eyes.

  • Joan Andruszkewicz

I HATE the new website soooo much! I e-mailed them and let them know what I think. If it ain’t broke, why fix it???? My most recent purchases are not in my order status. Wanted to track an order from April 5th and it wasn’t there. Some products are missing, i.e., the Buxom True Hue blush. It just came out a couple of months ago. I went looking for it to order another shade and it wasn’t there. Sephora is the only website/store where you can purchase it Did they discontinue it already and if so, why? I loved this site, but am really not happy with it at all.

  • jenna

I don’t mind the layout of the new website BUT i’m not impressed that it doesn’t recognize my email and asks me to enter it in “valid form” although I’ve been a member for ages and when i tried to email them, it said to call. and when i call, it rings once and hangs up. GRRR!!

  • amy

At first, I loved the “check in nearby store” feature, as I absolutely hate ordering anything online, but it doesn’t work. There are a couple of NARS duos I was/am interested in (and it seems every Sephora near me has a completely different stock), but every time I clicked on the appropriate duo, it kept showing All About Eve. The rest I don’t mind, as I rarely use it, but I had such hopes for this one feature.

  • Missy

Did anyone else’s Shopping List disappear?? Mine did and I had tons of gift ideas in there for my niece, sister, etc. Now I’ll never remember what obscure perfume that I was going to order for bdays :(((

I emailed them about this and got no reply.

Also, when I try adding things to my shopping list, it says it was added, but then comes up “zero items.” Argh!

    • auroragyps

My own My Shopping List has been wonky for over a year now. You’re not allowed to have more than 100 items in there, but I’ve had way less than that for the longest time. However, I’ve had the same Sephora account for over 10 years, so I think there might have been a glitch that added up a bunch of the stuff I’ve had on there over the years. Whatever the case, I emailed Sephora about it a long time ago & they never even confirmed getting my message, let alone fixing the problem, so I wouldn’t hold my breath with them getting back to you. I do believe I read something about them getting rid of the Shopping List on the new site & replacing it with something else, but I don’t know what or when. All I care about is that whatever they come up with doesn’t have the same glitch .

      • Missy

Argh that stinks! I had only about twenty items in there but it was a nice way to keep track of future gifts, ya know? I guess I’ll have to use my Amazon wishlist for that LOL That sucks that they didn’t even get back to you 🙁 I’m going to paste the reply they just sent me:

Thank you for contacting Sephora.com with your feedback about our website. Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing higher than expected email volume and will be unable to respond to your email.

        Oh the irony!

  • Joan Andruszkewicz

Sephora’s new website is really screwed up! I can’t place an order online or on the telephone. The orders are not being processed. Had a problem with my credit card and 12 pending charges because I wasn’t able to click on “Place Order”. I got that straightened out and couldn’t even place the order on the telephone. The rep told me she was sending the problem to the solutions section and would get back to me by e-mail or phone. Haven’t heard yet. I complained to her that they have so many glitches on their new website. I also sent an e-mail to customer service and complained. I told them that in all the years I’ve been placing orders with Sephora, I NEVER had a problem until now. I am not a happy camper with their new “unimproved” website.

  • mv

I still can’t believe how much they over-charge Canadians for the same products when the dollar has been on par for years now!
