Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer Review & Swatches

Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer is a newly launched long wearing base from the brand for Fall 2012. This somehow replaces, I guess, their One Step Makeup Foundation which I loved and they proceeded to axe from the master line.

I don’t think I like Stay All Day Foundation as much as I did One Step but it does prove convenient for travel if you’re looking for your concealer and foundation to be housed under the same roof so to speak.

Take a look!

Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer ($44) comes with the Stila 35 Brush for application. I kinda love the idea of getting an application tool, a foundation, and a concealer all in one. It’s a complete package and I like that a lot. It’s nice not being tempted by a brush for application or having to run out and try a new concealer. It’s all here, you get everything, no choices to be made outside of your shade selection.

This is an oil and paraben free-formula with a soft, creamy texture that’s lightweight, breathable, and offers sheer to full coverage benefits.

As I mentioned it comes with a matching concealer which is housed in the top of the foundation bottle. The concealer is on the smaller size at 0.02 oz but it packs a thick, creamy, pigmented formula so a little goes a very long way. It is fairly thick so it will settle into fine lines and creases if you aren’t careful and patience during application. The formula is quite emollient taking drier eyes into consideration for a smooth, hydrating finish. You’ll want to use a tiny dab of it, pat on completely, and build from there if needed. It offers full coverage so just be aware during application and prep well to avoid problems. I liked it well enough but the color I tried, Buff, was a little too yellow for me. It diffused circles and darkness well but the shade didn’t brighten my eyes up as nicely as I’d like. But this is not fault with the formula, simply the shade.

Now the foundation part of this duo is interesting…!

This is high performance foundation. I used it under some extreme conditions like humidity, swimming, etc…the formula is quite pigmented with a creamy, moisturizing feel and a semi-matte, lightweight finish. I wouldn’t call it a second skin type of foundation as it is the type of base you know you have on but it does provide a smooth, flawless finish. A little goes a very long way as the color pay off is excellent. It does provide sheer with full buildable coverage.

It’s pretty waterproof in some aspects as it doesn’t oxidize nor does it fade super quickly under hot weather conditions. I’d say you can get a solid six hours out of it in extreme weather conditions and still come out of it looking as fresh as a daisy. Stila embraces a quirky little Asian packaging detail in the spatula-like applicator that allows you to remove product from the bottle easily.

Foundation in Buff (Note: Buff is quite a yellow beige and not fitting for my skin tone so please don’t purchase it based on this)

Concealer in Buff

My skin is dry and took to this very well. It has a hydrating feel upon application but has a semi-matte dry down that doesn’t suck moisture from skin. It should perform well on most skin types but will particularly be a pleasant experience for those with drier skin.

The brush included is a mini thin, flat head brush for application. You can use it under eyes or on your face. I find it works a treat for sheerer coverage but if you’re looking for heavier you’ll want to use a different brush.

Overall, Stila Stay All Day is a treat of a foundation. It won’t replace BB Creams for me as those have my heart but I’m mighty impressed overall. This features many of the great benefits we want in a foundation like long wearing coverage, non-oxidizing, strong yet lightweight coverage. It also bundles together a brush and a matching concealer. What more could a girl want?

Oh yes, a cheaper price tag! But hey, remember you are getting the concealer, brush, and foundation so the near $50 price tag does even itself out a bit.

Tried it?

The whole second-product-in-cap is very reminiscent of Asian products (I’m thinking of Holika Holika’s peach girl BB, skin79 oriental, and Etude House Dr. Oil dual primer right now…)! I like that it has everything you need in one package. I think I will pick this up. 😀

After seeing this on the Sephora website, I’ve been interested in seeing the texture. I really like the complete-ness of this product, with the brush, concealer, and the spatula in the tube. Thanks for the helpful review Muse!

I got a good sized sample to last about a week this past monday and so far it’s been wearing pretty decent on my combo oily skin. No breakouts what so ever. I just wish it would come without the brush to knock down the price a bit. The texture kind of reminds me of the revlon color stay whipped.

I got this as a sample in my birchbox last month. I did not like it one bit. I thought it was streaky and hard to blend. Maybe it was the tiny little sample card I received but I do not plan on purchasing the full size just to see if more product makes any difference.

I purchased this foundation last year, and I keep trying to like it, but I think it’s just not for me. I’ve barely put a dent it in. I find myself reaching for other foundations instead. I was matched to the color light (03) and while it’s close, like you, I do notice a little too much yellow once I have it on. I also find it a bit difficult to get the right level of coverage. It’s either too sheer, or too full (even when I sit and patiently try to build it up slowly). I usually end up feeling entirely too made up. And I feel crazy for saying this (because it’s a whipped foundation so I thought this wouldn’t happen), but I can feel it on my skin. Perhaps I just haven’t figured out how to use it properly. I’ve tried using my fingers, different brushes, and even sponges with no luck. I guess this one just wasn’t mean to be. It has impressive lasting power, I just wish I could make it work. **sad face**
