Clarins 3-Dot Liner Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Clarins 3-Dot Liner has launched as part of the brands Fall 2012 Collection. These new trident tipped eyeliners are popping up everywhere lately with brands like KATE and Too Faced having their own versions.

So what’s so great about a prong applicator?

Lots!

Being very unsteady with liquid liner the shape of this applicator is definitely helpful for filling in your lash line simply and easily dot by dot to accentuate eyes and give the illusion of added volume to lashes.

The liner applicator is a thicker felt pen design which is split down into three parts. I typically have a hard time keeping my hand steady with liquid lining but this allows you to dot the liner into place to create the appearance of a thicker lash line instantly. You simply dot it across your lash line, between lashes, to create the illusion of a fuller lash line. It also allows you to to create a steady, smooth thin line as you move it across your lashes. You can go back and re-line for more drama as well if you want a thicker line and it allows for an easy flick should you desire a winged cat eye look. The pigmentation is excellent on this as well since it has a blacker than black finish.

I tend to not line my upper lash line since I feel I look a little too made up. However, I’ve found that using the dotting effect I get a softer, thin line that’s barely noticeable but still adds just the right touch of completeness to my eye look so my lashes look fuller and my eye makeup looks more polished and finished.

I’m all about dotting my liner on now!

I first saw the dot liner from Holika Holika around six months back and have been wanting to try. Seems like they’re worth trying >_<

I have a Holika Holika version of this 3-way liner and I love it!!! I am a total n00b when it comes to liquid liners, and this makes things so much easier.

  • Tohnia

it reminds me of the Too Faced eyeliner that’s been getting raves from all over the makeup blogsphere!

Which would you say is better Muse? I’ve been really interested in these, I just don’t know which one of these eyeliners to get!

    • the Muse

i like this one better cindy just b/c it was less dry. the too faced version seemed to be a bit runny at the tip, more room for mistake for me.

Hi Ms. Muse! I’m thinking of getting one of these three-pronged eyelining miracles, but I’m not sure if I should get the this one or the Too Faced liner. Do you have any compare-contrast info you might be willing to share? Thanks! ^_^

hi aretsuya, the only really difference between the two is the too faced version is a little more “wet” and inky black versus the Clarins one that’s a bit drier and a more subdued. I worked with the Clarins one a little easier due to the drier formula as there is less room for mistakes with a drier formula for me. Outside of that the liners are same in terms of shape, what they do, etc.

When I first heard about the Too Faced 3-Way Liner I immediately knew I had to have it. But I’m glad Clarins created a similar liner now, as Clarins is available in Belgium and Too Faced isn’t 🙂 I love it!

Seems like a very good concept, especially for filling in the gaps at the lash line. Wonder if anyone will make a brown version, or other colors?

  • the meow meows

A dolla makes me holla muse! this sure sounds pricey! is there a cheaper one on the market i can afford?

    • the Muse

yup mentioned in the review that too faced was cheaper meow or KATE makes one as well as holika holika. hope this helps!

I’m a liner pro and didn’t think I needed the Too Faced one but I ended up trying it and love it. The thing about the dots is, I can line my top lashes with the dots and I don’t even have to wear mascara if it’s one of those days. I just can’t get my liner to not look like liner without using dots. Even if I tightline with UD pencil it still needs mascara to look “done”. I think while this pencil makes it easier for some, it also helps us get quicker more diversified looks.
I like the Too Faced one so I’m not sure I’d spring the bucks for the Clarins brand.
