MAC Perfectly Plush Mineralize Brush Kit Holiday 2012 Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

The MAC Perfectly Plus Brush Kit is a Holiday 2012 Gift Set featuring four mini brushes and a makeup bag.

This set is one of two other sets that MAC is releasing for the Holidays in their Primped Out Collection.

It’s actually my favorite because it contains all fibre brushes.

Take a look!

Leopard is very on trend at the moment and as we head deeper into Winter you’ll be seeing a lot more of it. I personally don’t like it and felt like the leopard print of the makeup bag that came with this set wasn’t as matching with the vintage packaging MAC went with for Holiday 2012.

However, the bag itself is very nice. This is oblong zippered bag with two compartments. The right side contains a brush pocket to house all four of the minis that comes with the set and on the right hand side is a buttoned compartment. You can’t store a ton of products in this portion of the bag but it’s still roomy enough to hold three blushes, a combination of blushes and glosses/lipsticks, or more brushes. I like how thin the bag is as it easily stores in my purse without taking up too much room. I love the way MAC dyed the tips of the brushes peach to match the makeup bag! Cute!

I’m a huge fan of MAC’s Fibre Brush Collection and love having the four minis of some of my favorite brushes.

The set includes the 130SE which is a short, round, flat topped brush with soft bristles. This is ideal for buffing powders and minerals into skin or for use with creams and concealers.

The 187 is also included which is a brush I reach for daily. It’s soft bristles make it easy to use with creams and powders alike. It’s ideal for using with MSF as the shorter, softer bristles allows you to pick up sheer layer of product to be applied on cheeks and face. It’s also excellent for using with cream blushes or blushes that are extra bold and pigmented.

And finally you’ll also get the 286 and 282 for eyeshadow application. The 286 is a Fibre Blending Brush and excellent for use with darker eyeshadows since it picks up the sheerest amount of product and allows to easily build color into the crease. 282 has been released prior but is not available in the general catalog so it’s a treat to have in this set. This is your basic eyeshadow brush also fibre with soft bristles for easily piling color on.

The bristles are very soft and shed-free, quite equivalent to what you’d get should you buy their full sizes. There were some quality issues with last year’s Holiday Brush Sets but rest assured you’re getting an excellent set of brushes here.

The set is $49.50 which is like paying $10 per a brush and $10 for the bag so really a deal considering how costly full size MAC brushes are.

I loved this and recommend picking it up if you don’t own any of MAC’s Fibre Brushes. I’m a heavy handed makeup application person and these brushes are ideal since they allow you to apply bolder shades without over doing them. The 286 along is worth the price of admission! Love this brush!

Muse Approved for purchase.

MAC already launched Holiday on their website at maccosmetics.com but I don’t yet see the brush sets available but you can also shop it at Nordstrom.com

It will be on counters shortly as well.

Any brush sets from MAC Holiday 2012 that you’ll be hauling?

Hi muse, i discovered your blog recently and i have to say i’m a huge fan!! it’s awesome!!!
i have a special request for you, could you please review the other brush sets from this collection? Please, please, i’m interested in buying one of these, but i’m a dumbass when it comes to brushes, so i wouldn’t know which one to choose.
    Thank you very much!

    • the Muse

aw thank you rosie you’re so awesome to say so <3! I won't be reviewing the others unfortunately. I have a few TOO many brush sets so it would be wasteful to purchase more. My brush collection is out of hand lol! If this brush set is anything to go on I imagine the others will be JUST as good! I'm so sorry to disappoint!

    Hi,
I’ve been using MAC brushes for years and they are awesome! I swear by 187. These mini brushes are a different story though.
Although the brushes may look the same and it looks like it’s a wonderful deal, they are by far nothing like the regular size MAC brushes.
The minis are not made in the same quality, as the brushes are not with real hair but synthetic. I was told this by a MAC regional manager who advised that these brushes are only good for travel and if used in a limited. You do not get the same quality finish and are better off buying the regular brushes.
First time commenting, and I have to say I love your site!

hi anita thanks so much for your comment! I’m so sorry to hear you don’t like the brushes. I think they are a great deal and the bristles/handles/and overall quality is excellent. They aren’t exactly like the full size but they are a close second if you can’t afford to indulge in four of the full size brushes. I have all three of the four brushes in full size and must say all are on par with their larger sizes….I didn’t feel they were lacking although last year they were somewhat, the bristles were a bit scratchy, handles were loose, etc..!

thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoy Musings 🙂 <3!

Hey, love your blog!!! Got the exact set recently in South Africa and I’m very impressed, yet the 130 brush tends to shed a little… Bit disappointed. The others are fab though!!
