Chanel Captivante Rouge Allure Review & Swatches

La Favorite, Captivante, Precieuse

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in Captivante is, well, it’s exactly that, captivating. This was released with the Chanel Spring 2013 Makeup Collection and at a glance I wasn’t particularly wow’ed by the shade.

But suddenly all these comments starting floating around me, people, strangers, asking me “What is that on your lips?” and even many of you commented and asked what I was wearing on a certain FOTD that I did and it just happened to be Captivante.

A lip color that gets this much attention must be special yes?

Chanel calls it a copper brown and that’s pretty much what it is. Although I must admit, it has the ability to reflect different shades depending on what color I’m wearing on my cheeks or eyes. If I go warmer with my cheeks I see copper rose brown, if I go a little cooler I notice that it becomes more rose-y and almost metallic.

The shade is stunning and thankfully I don’t own any other lip colors like it.

The Rouge Allure formula is richly pigmented with full coverage. It is a tad drying if your lips happen to already be dry however, applies smoothly with a buttery glide on normal lips. I tend to use balm under it on days my lips are dry or flaky for a smoother finish. Wear time varies but I always seem to successfully get a five hour wear out of Rouge Allure without having to touch it up however, if my lips are dry I do need to be careful that it doesn’t flake up.

La Favorite, Captivante, Precieuse

Captivante isn’t a shade I’d associate with Spring really, perhaps Summer? and Fall for sure…either way I really think you NEED this one.

Do check it out your next trip to a counter. It’s a stunning shade that feels unique enough to me to warrant a purchase. I love how it has the ability to look different depending on my makeup…! I’ve already purchased a back up.

Muse Approved.

That is gorgeous on you! I would have thought based on the swatches, that you were wearing precieuse. I’m not usually swayed by Chanel, but if the Muse approves it, who am I to argue?

    • the Muse

omg wait I labeled wrong sorry misty lol have to switch the swatch colors around ;-D <3!

  • kimkats

Wow – that’s lovely! I would have guessed it was Precieuse if you hadn’t said it was Captivante. Looks much bolder on than it does in the tube – Lovely tho!

  • Libby

So tempted! La Favorite looks gorgeous but I’m pretty sure I have a shade like that somewhere in my stash of corals but Captivante looks absolutely darling on you, Muse! Now I feel like I must visit my closest Chanel counter soon.

      • Jen_M_sunshine

I got the lilac caresse and HATE it! I don’t have any of the ysl so wanted to try. Maybe will just get this instead OR this AND one of the ysl volupte shine

        • the Muse

try a darker shade, I find the darker ones way nicer! ysl’s is actually much more moisturizing though. the volupte shine are on my list too!

I absolutely ADORE that lipstick shade! It looks fantastic on you Muse and since we have similar coloring…I’m feelin that it’s gonna look awesome on me as well 😉 I have several of the Rouge Allure lipsticks and I must say that Chanel makes the most beautiful shades. I definitely gotta have it for my own. Thanks!

Hi Muse. I added 61 to my name, as I see their is another Libby in your list of followers. I passed up the three you purchased and got Fantasque 112. It is a beautiful light pink shade from their Spring 2013 collection. I purchased La Fascinante 38 and found it too drying. I know it has the name Velvet in it but…my solution is to use lip balm like yourself, but one that does not make the lipstick bleed. While in London last year my daughter turned me onto Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment . It has been really cold in L.A. and this stuff just works so well. It performs better than mu Chanel Hydramax Lip which cost $45. I have purchased several tubes of the Lucas’ product cause I use it all the time. I even use it under my Rouge Coco lipshines. You look like a doll – like I always say! xo

hey again libby! thanks ;-D that helps. I never heard of it? will google! thanks for the rec ;-D! I can always use extra moisture especially now with this COLD spell we have here in New York! La Fascinante is a gorgeous shade by the way ;-D good pick! aw thank YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxo!

This looks very different on you than on me. On me, it barely shows-it’s a frosty coral! I’ve had to layer it with a deep pink lipstick to get a look that I can wear. Looks great on you, though!
