Cheap Thrills: Sally Hansen Invisible Lip Liner

Sally Hansen Invisible Lip Liner

The new Sally Hansen Invisible Lip Liner ($6.99) is a nice cheap thrill to pick up your next trip to the drugstore. I know when I wear red lipstick it likes to take a little road trip around my face.

I’m being serious.

I put it on in the AM and it proceeds to feather up in my lower lip and somehow move to my cheek. Once I even found some on my forehead. Word.

Invisible Lipliner is key to keep that shiz on lock down!

This colorless lip liner stops lipstick from feathering and bleeding or just migrating onto your forehead if that’s the case. At $6.99 it’s a rather nice budget pick as I’m used to paying over $20 for the Bite Beauty one I love so dearly.

How you keep your red lipstick from road trippin’?

Sally Hansen’s new Invisible Lip Liner is at drugstores now.

Looks cool, but I haven’t exactly had good luck with Sally Hansen (lip inflation *shudders*)

HAHA @ the red lipstick migration. I know what you mean! I’m so paranoid that I’ve got clown mouth the whole time I wear red out.

I use the clear lipliner by ELF and it works great! I was going to get the UD one at first, but then I figured for $3 I could try out the ELF 😛

  • kimkats

Forehead?? Do I want to know how that happened? 😛 I was just thinking a day or so ago that I need to find another one of these type of liners – they’re really useful. And sadly I pretty much need one these days… And I dont’even wear red lipstick! This one looks nice and cheep too! Will have to pick it up soon’s I find it!

  • Ruth

While at work, apparently I make faces without realizing it. So, I find my red lippie usually on the bottom of my nose. of course, no one tells me that i’m walking around looking like rudolph.

  • Kiss & Make-up

Hehe I can almost picture with red lipstick all over your face. I am pretty sure that is not what you meant but still, the image pops up in my head 🙂

  • Icequeen81

I dont wear red liptick ok it has red on it somehow . I need one of these I was like crasy looking for an clear lippencil and here it is
when I asked here in the drugstore they did laugh , apperently they need to research more
bite beuty sound also good I saw UD has one too.

  • Debster

I’m glad they re released this!!!!!! I couldn’t find another cheap non-sharpening one and I ran out a while ago.

  • suzanne

Omg I had red all over my chin once..terrible!! Thanks for the rec muse! I usually use Macs lip primer to make the lipstick stick…then do liner..powder …blot …put on color, blot, powder or…..Ill just use a lipstain. hell of a lot easier

    • the Muse

lol been there suzanne 😀 my pleasure! lipstain def easier ;-D def easier!

  • Kimmwc03

I saw this at CVS about a month ago but I did not purchase because I rarely remember to use the MUFE invisible liner I have.

Muse, I just got a red Avon lipstick that is incredible and does not bleed or feather. I rarely wear reds because of the bleeding and feathering and just the way they make me look paler but this one must be my perfect shade of red. It’s in a silver, scalloped kind of tube but the name is partially covered, it’s something kissable lipstick in “make out red”. It was 99 cents with my purchase of other items!

Keep that shiz on lockdown…..LMBO!!! I almost spewed soda on my keyboard. Have a good weekend!

  • Olivia

I need to get this! I used to use a clear liner from maybelline but they discontinued it. I like it so much better than colored liners.

  • Seneca

I used to get red lipstick on my nose and chin when I first started wearing red frequently. I have a few red lip liners that I really like and they have helped, and now I seldom get red lipstick all over my face. Most of the time when I wear red, I use one of my Armani Lip Maestros and even without lip liner they stay in place. I will probably get this as I have been wanting to try a clear lip liner for ages. How is this different from a lip primer?

    • the Muse

lip primer you use all over your lips seneca and this is simply a transparent lip liner to use around the lip line to keep lipstick from feathering. 🙂

  • Susan

I’m really glad to see this. I used to use the one by Duwop but that was discontinued. The ELF one is very dry. Couldn’t find the Maybelline. I’ve used Mary Kay but they changed it and it is too thin. Hope this works. The shea butter should make it go on smooth. Thanks for the heads up!

The only way a bright colour won’t migrate all over the place on me is if I prep with a beeswax based balm first. Otherwise hello Joker! Not cool.

  • Janna Mandell

Now I’m all confused — for years I was using a flesh colored lip pencil but recently two different makeup artists told me I should wear a lip liner that matches the color of my lipstick, especially when I wear bold reds and pinks. I’d love to hear your opinion!

    • the Muse

i don’t actually wear lipliner at all janna aside from clear when I am wearing a bright red…so I’m def not an expert on the topic 😀

    • Meg

Janna- I think matching the liner to the lipstick color only works if you fill in the entire lip. I always find my lipstick wears off much faster than the liner and I’m let with ring-around-the-lip unless I fill in the whole thing. But nude or clear colors always work…sometimes I think the MAs are just trying to sell us stuff.

Muse- thanks for the helpful and funny review! I’ve been looking for a clear liner but they are hard to find. I love how you always have a great mix of expensive, cheap, easy to find, and those really neat but hard to find Asian products.

      • the Muse

that’s exactly the reason I avoid lipliner, ring around the mouth 😀 my pleasure meg! <3! I'm happy to hear you enjoy the crazy mix of products I feature :)! Happy Weekend!

    • Veronica

The reason they suggest using a similarly colored liner is because it can largely extend the wearing time of the lipstick IF you fill the entire lip in and not just the outer edges. That way, when the lipstick layer starts to wear down because of drinking/eating, it doesn’t get that faded look where the color is stronger toward the outside and the natural lip color shows through on the inside. In general, it just means less touch-ups. Personally, I do this almost exclusively for red lipstick, while the rest of my lip pencils I use either on their own or as a base to augment different colors.

Keeping in mind, there is no firm consensus on what to do. For instance, Kevyn Aucoin personally preferred using a nude lip pencil underneath, so it’s more about the individual prefers.

I work in an IV room occasionally, so those masks can pick up the color and transfer it to some…interesting places. I’ve learned to spot-check every few hours. I’m sure my coworkers think I’m just very vain now. 😉

I already have two of these – both Urban Decay’s Ozone and Pixi’s Line and Prime both work well – but I’d love to find a workable cheap one to throw in my purse. 🙂 I’ll have to give it a try when I get a chance.

    • the Muse

oh no veronica I can just imagine! i’d prob never wear gloss again if I had to wear a mask because I know it would prob get everywhere being the klutz I am 😀

      • Veronica

Haha, trust me, I learned the hard way to avoid my glossy products when I’m working back there. I haven’t quite managed the forehead, but I’ve found product on my nose and cheeks occasionally. I save the glosses for when I’m on the main floor. Matte and semi-matte lipsticks are now the IV room go-to. 😀

        • the Muse

knowing me I’d get matte all over my face too veronica lol!

  • citygirl907

I don’t have a lip liner but this one looks good! It’s multi-purpose so I guess it covers all the bases 🙂 I like to save myself some money…..goodness knows I spend enough of it on make-up! 🙂 Thanks for posting 🙂

I still have a couple from Revlon, as well as a couple from L’Oréal (still in wrappers, LOL), since I haven’t worn darker lipstick in *ages*, so I hadn’t realized clear liners weren’t easily available. Hopefully these will stick around for a while. If they do, they’re definitely worth trying.

  • Miss D

Haha! I was laughing out loud when I read this! Now Muse, I’m not gonna lie- I’ve gotten red lipstick on my chin plenty of times and even a few times on my nose. But how on earth did you get it on your forehead? I bet you touched your lip and/or the bottom of your nose (and in doing this you may have accidentally touched the top of the upper lip) and then you touched your forehead…right?
Ha- ok, maybe I’m thinking about this too hard, but I think I may need me some of this lip pencil too! XD

    • the Muse

LOL miss d ;-D I dunno…it’s odd! I’m just idiot prone lol! 😀 I need to stick to natural colors and avoid the loud reds that like to road trip around my face!

  • Pat Jerrell

I have been wearing clear lip liners for a few years now. I switch back and forth between elf, and avon. I find that I actually prefer the elf as far as wear goes, but the avon liner is a bit creamier. Not enough to make me buy it over the elf again though. I really think the elf lip liner is good. I usually use a little balm under my lipstick, and even if I don’t, I don’t find the it to be too drying. I hate it when I wear a colored lip liner and check myself in the mirror to find my lipstick has worn off and there I am left that faint line around my lips!If you are going to wear one the same color as your lipstick all over your lips, your colorless one can be used for that too if you already have one. On the elf website the clear liner isn’t with the rest of them I believe it is listed with lip treatments, if anyone is interested. I wish I could use up the 3 I have so could try this Sally Hansen one… sounds good, and I know for sure I can get a good liner for under $10.00!! anytime. Thanks Muse….

  • Pat Jerrell

….please excuse my mistake! I didn’t mean Avon clear lip liner..duh!
What I meant to say was Mary Kay. I have been on line too many hours must go rest now, so sorry 😉
