Hourglass Ambient Powder Brush Review

Hourglass Ambient Powder Brush

The Hourglass Ambient Powder Brush is a nifty little tool for applying Hourglass’s new Ambient Lighting Powder. Whether you want to spend $35 on a brand new brush just for apply this powder is the real question.

Believe me, I questioned it myself. Ambient Lighting Powder is getting quite a few raves across the beauty bloggingsphere at the moment and it seems the best application technique includes this new brush.

Do you need it?

This is densely packed short handled brush with baby soft bristles. The bristles are incredibly soft however, they aren’t floppy. You won’t want the bristles to flop around when applying the Ambient Powder so the density lends a helping hand getting the powder onto the contour of your face perfectly. I think if you use a bushier brush to apply you might find you’ve applied too much product where as the Hourglass Ambient Powder Brush picks up and disperses just the right amount of powder onto your face.

The brush comes housed in a velvet pouch which you can use to store and travel with.

Makeup is only ever as good as the brushes you use to apply it. Splurging a little on a good brush for application is a make or break situation. Don’t get me wrong I can easily use sponge applicators to apply my eyeshadow however, I wouldn’t give up my blending brush from MAC for the world, it’s worth every single penny I paid for it.

In this case, the Hourglass Ambient Powder Brush is well worth picking up if you’re intending to buy and use the Ambient Lighting Powder. This brush makes application of the powder easy and flawless.

I would recommend grabbing it along with the powder!

It’s available now at Sephora and Sephora.com

Do you intend to try out the new Ambient Powders?

Have you already?

Thoughts?

Do share!

Good morning wifey!!! How was your weekend??

:D! See told you their brushes are amazing, now quickly go order the #2! I got the ethereal one, sadly I don’t really like it, it’s just a boring white powder, I ordered diffused which I’m positive ill like a lot more, Josh did an amazing video on the powders you should totally check out 😀

Btw this brush works awesome with the nars pressed powder 😀 it even applies foundation amazing!

    • the Muse

good morning dear! 😀 It was pretty low key for a chang…! Movies, some dinners, brunch with friends, a little shopping…How was yours? I actually watched it when he tweeted it, love when he raves Hourglass lol it just makes me want to buy everything ;-D No kidding? you mean the thin sponge?!

      • Cj

Mine was good, tried to keep it relaxing 😛 bubble bath and face masks xD. Omg me too I swear every time he makes an hourglass video I’m ordering something before the video even finishes lol! Talk about a good spokesperson lol! Noo I mean I use this brush instead of the sponge :O

        • the Muse

sounds heavenly to me ;-D Ditto…he’s created so many hourglass lemmings for me. Must try their stick concealer ;-D OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! wait that’s an awesome idea I think you mentioned it to me before….gonna try that!

  • EttaJ

This brush looks lovely. Sadly, I tried the ambient powder in Mood and it just didn’t work for me. For reference, I’m cool toned and ultra-fair. I thought the violet tone of he powder would be a home run but it just ended up being too dark and looked muddy on me. Maybe if I had the brush, I would have had better luck with application! 😉

  • Sai

This brush looks good!I got the Hourglass #1 powder brush and I love it a lot!

Will u review the Ambient Lighting Powder btw? The powder sounds promising too.

    • the Muse

I will sai 🙂 testing it out now! I’ve wanted the #1 for a while now but haven’t indulged ;-D your “love it” makes my lemming stronger ;D

      • Sai

Yay! I love good synthetic brush!! and Hourglass is definitely making a very great one!

  • katie

I am definitely intrigued by the ambient powders. I have been reading all of the reviews and trying to decide which to get. The new nars setting powder is appealing as well. You have tried both haven’t you? Any thoughts?

  • Eli

It would’ve been great if ourglass made the powders themselves with tow comaprtments and their own brush… But I guess this would’ve made them too expensive 😀

  • Christy

Excited for your review on the powder. I was going to pick up the new Nars one you reviewed at the Sephora party they are having at my local store on the 24th, but now I’m wondering if I should spend the extra $ and get one of these powders.

    • the Muse

christy they are vastly different products 🙂 I wouldn’t skip the nars, it’s more a setting powder versus the ambient which is a highlighter.

  • Kiss & Make-up

Do you like how it sits in your hand? I think I prefer ‘normal’ brushes with long handles.

    • the Muse

I actually love the way it fits in my hand. I feel like the short handle gives me more control 🙂

      • Kiss & Make-up

Hmmm, not that you mention it, I do like my kabuki brush because of that exact reason, because it gives me lots of control… So maybe I should give this a try too!

  • Kimmwc03

Yeah, I agree the brush does help the product look amazing. I have the Dim Light one and am contemplating Diffused and Ethereal.

  • blueraccoon

A friend gave me a gift card to Sephora for my b-day so I picked the brush up along with another powder; I have mood light, ethereal light, and something else I can’t remember right now. Diffused light, maybe? I haven’t had a chance to play with them all yet but they’re so pretty I had to grab ’em.

  • Susan

I’m so glad you reviewed the brush – that needed to be said!
I got the Dim, and it’s a game changer for 62 year old me! It goes on EVERYDAY, and I adore that stuff!

I’m so happy I got the brush to apply it properly (apply lightly in sweeping motion). It’s soft and nummy LOL!

Thank you yet again for a wonderful job on reviews.

    🙂 Susan xoxo

    • the Muse

Aw Susan very happy to hear your success with both the brush and the powder! 😀 Thank you so much for your comment :)!

  • Marina

So you’re saying that if I don’t intend to use their lighting powder or blush, then it’s not really worth buying the brush? Thanks for the review by the way!

    • Isabella Muse

It’s really up to you Marina. What did you have plans on using it with? It works great with the lighting powder but I’m unsure if you really need to splurge this much if you’re using it with other products!

  • Jen

Hi Muse, Just wondering is the brush handle plastic (the same as the compacts are made of)? I bought one and it showed up with the paint on the handle bubbling and peeling and now I’m wondering if it’s fake :S

    • Isabella Muse

the compact and the brush handle has the same metallic look, feel but no painting or bubbling Jen!
