Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Conceal Review & Swatches

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Conceal

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Conceal Concealer ($20) launched in a wide range of shades a few months ago. Being a concealer junkie I really wanted to try these out. I actually haven’t tried a ton of products from OCC so a concealer seemed like a great place to jump in.

Let’s take a look!

OCC Skin Conceal Concealer is available in a range of twelve shades. The concealers come in a clear plastic bot with a screw top lid which quite reminds me of the Balm Time Balm Concealer.

This is interesting concealer as it is dense but creamy when warmed up. I typically dislike concealers like this as I prefer more of an emollient texture due to my drier eyes. This doesn’t feel slippery but it has a certain creaminess to it which allows it to apply correctly plus the density of the product allows it to wear quite strong without migrating around my eye, creasing, or fading. I think it can prove a little challenging to apply for drier eyes so I suggest going heavy on the eye cream and using a brush to apply. Personally I load up my brush, swipe it across the back of my hand a few times, and this warms the concealer up and allows it to apply easily. I use my hand as palette so I can pick up more concealer as I go right from the back of my hand. It has incredible coverage which never feels or looks heavy or too made up.

Unfortunately the shade I purchased Y2, was a little too dark for me. I ordered online which wasn’t a smart idea. I’m unsure if Sephora carries these in store if so I do suggest heading into the store to purchase. I got mine directly from OCC and they unfortunately do not offer exchanges.

None the less this is an impressive concealer. It wears for a solid eight hour day without creasing or fading and erases the issues I want gone under my eyes. I do not recommend it for extra dry, aging eyes though as I imagine you’ll experience a fair bit of tugging. Prep is key here so use a good eye cream and use some of the tips I shared in this post to get the best finish possible and experience from this concealer.

If you like Time Balm Concealer you’ll ADORE this as it is a vast improvement on that formula with way more coverage!

I purchased this item.

That would definitely be too dark for me and it is very unfortunate that OCC does not do exchanges by now.

    • the Muse

wish they did would have def gone for another shade :-/ but at least I gifted it and didn’t feel so bad that one of my friends could use it but still $20 and no exchange ouchie!

  • Nancy

I’ve been looking for an opaque concealer [MUFE full cover just doesn’t cut it for me] and Y2 looks like it’ll fit my skin tone just right *o*
Too bad Y2 is sold out online on Sephora and it’s only available online :[

    • the Muse

nancy I noticed many of the shades were totally sold out! damn! wait for a restock ;D

    • s

Nancy, you should try Kevyn Aucoin sensual skin enhancer, it is the most opaque stuff on the planet! A tiny dot conceals all my spots. I’ve got the same MUFE & the KA is far superior.

      • Joy

I can vouch that the KA SSE is crazy pigmented! So pigmented it intimidated me for months before I had enough courage to put it on. So pigmented that I really, really need to prep and thoroughly moisturize before applying it under my eyes. I’ve been using it 5X a week for close to a year and I’ve barely made a dent. My next repurchase will be 50 years from now LOL.

Oh and once you get the application right, the SSE does not move. Especially if you set it with KA Diaphanous powder, which has a blurring effect.

  • Sara

You’re right about prep work! I got this last week at their NYC store (side note- the sales assistant was GREAT. we went outside to find the right color match, and she gave me a sample of a darker one to try when I’m more tanned). I use an eye cream and NARS smudge proof under my eyes to smooth out the skin, and use a little lip balm on blemishes to avoid caking. I usually need separate concealers for eyes and spots, but with a little prep this works great on both!

Also picked up some nail polish on clearance for $5– possibly the best formula I’ve ever tried. Will be purchasing more.

    • the Muse

yay happy to hear it sara ;-D you def need to prep a little with this but it is well worth the effort ;D

  • Dusty

I haven’t picked these up yet to test but everyone seems to love them. I’m more of a full coverage foundation used as concealer kind of guy personally. (ESPECIALLY on myself I need something really moisture rich or straight-up liquid). I’d be interested to read your thoughts on their Lip Tars. I’ve yet to read a bad review of them but I don’t like them at all. As cream blushes they are fine but the separation that occurs in the tube is ridiculous and they don’t just bleed… they hemorrhage (no matter how little I use)!

I’ve always felt comfortable using a range of products and I give everything a fighting chance to impress me but I’ve yet to find anything from OCC that I like except for the loose shadows – which are good but honestly no different from any other loose shadow I’ve used.

    • the Muse

as always we are twins because I def can’t go on board with the lip tars. SO over hyped. They feel so dry to me and accentuate every little tiny line on my mouth and I don’t even HAVE lines! WTF!? I’m the same, my skin is dry so I def need as much moisture in all my products as possible be it concealer, lipstick, blush etc…! and true on the loose shadows, they are pretty much the standard from everywhere! This is good conceal, great opaque coverage, but does take work to get into place correctly 🙁 that doesn’t disappoint when I am rushing in the AM so something more moisturizing is always welcome. However, when I have time to do so this is great coverage just need to commit to it and take time to prep 😀

  • Dusty

Haha! Glad to hear somebody else doesn’t crave the Lip Tars either. I don’t have lines around my mouth and NOTHING EVER bleeds on me except for those things. Side note: if you’re skin is anywhere NEAR dry stay away from their foundation too – I looked like a Saltine cracker when I tested it out. LOL!

    • the Muse

I purchased one recently and oh god. it took a road trip all over my face. no fine lines either but seriously it just moves everywhere plus the color I got was just too much of a good thing. LOL LMAO oh the visual! crusty pirate! what comes after q? arghhhhhhh!

      • Joy

I’ve been wanting to try this, but I think I need to swatch this in person. That Y2 looks nothing like the swatch on the OCC website! They should let you return/exchange it because their swatches are misleading!!!

I also wanted to order some lip tars. I got it in my head that I was gonna put on a white lab coat and mix up my perfect shade LOL. Thanks for the comments on the drying nature of the tars, I can now lay that ambition to rest.

        • the Muse

joy seriously don’t think you need the tars, I like the idea of them and at first try I was kinda trying to convince myself I loved them but after using them a bit I’ve realized they are just too insanely dry!

          • Joy

Thanks Musey, you’ve spared me from lippie disappointment. I’m changing course and going for the Shiseido one you just raved about 🙂 Have a great weekend!

          • the Muse

hope you had a good weekend joy ;-D I think the shiseido one is a GREAT purchase 😀

    • Moria

Unfortunately I think the foundation really works best when applied via true airbrush systems. When applied via brush or finger methods it ends up too thick and cakey imo, unless you hav the lightest touch known to mankind.

As to the lip tars… sigh. Yes. I love them, but again really a product suited to editorial use, moreso than everyday. The lack of waxes or emulsifiers makes them hard as sh!t to deal with- I have been known to just smear them into some regular wax-based lip balm for a more traditional lipstick feel and ease of use.

I DO love the company and a lot of their products, but at a certain point you do need to work on the usability of your products to the average consumer; or have a much better return policy via online ordering.

  • melissa

I am extending my no-buy because I’m closing on my Las Vegas condo in 1 week. Come july- I can add this to my list of things to try! Thank you for the review.

    • the Muse

congrats!!!!! ;-D condo more important, makeup later ;-D my pleasure Melissa!

  • Sara Elisabeth

I really hated this concealer. It was way too dry, and my skin is not too dry right now. Btw, can’t stand lip tars either!

  • furandlace

Yep that’s the problem with these OCC concealers. The colour selection is a bit curious. I saw these at IMATS and would have bought one if I could find the right shade. Too bad.

  • Julia

Thanks for this review, Muse! I’ve been wanting to try this for a while, but am now glad I didn’t cave in and order it online. I will wait ’til I find it in a store so I can swatch it first!

  • pockykami

I’m confused I just checked their site and they allow returns within 14 days. Where did you see no returns?

    • the Muse

no returns on used makeup pocky. they return on unopened products.

      • pockykami

I interpreted their policy page differently. But I have never ordered from them, so thanks for the info.

        • the Muse

They offer returns as stated below but if you use it they don’t offer a return on it….kinda stinks if you try something hoping it will work, don’t like it, and want to return it and can’t because it is considered opened merchandise. That’s why it is a good idea to get it from Sephora as Sephora takes returns on both used and new merchandise.

          This is from their website:

But, I do agree with what people are saying about the color selection. It seems very weird to me that none of their face products come in neutral colors. I guess you have to mix. I think I’m going to go with the sse because that has a better fit.

  • Maria Manoela Porto

I love this concealer! I have very dry skin and this is something I can wear over the foundation to improve cover, skip powder and it stays in place all day. The formula is amazing and I am glad to hear that the balm concealer is similar because I can`t buy OCC where I live 🙁
    I love your blog!
