Bare Minerals Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat Review

Bare Minerals Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat

I was the first one to say, well, what’s the point of Bare Minerals Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat? Why do we need a waterproof mascara topcoat? Can’t we just buy waterproof mascara and call it a day?

But actually Bare Minerals Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat comes in handy!

Bare Minerals Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat ($12) is an invisible topcoat that you can use in conjunction with any non waterproof mascara formula and it basically gives your mascara a waterproof finish. I don’t really have issues with waterproof and non waterproof mascaras running, smudging, etc…my eyes are drier sot this could be the reason why I don’t run into many issues with this.

So it did cross my mind, “hey, this is pointless for me!” But I can see it being a handy product for those with smudging issues. This goes on quickly and easily over your average, ordinary non waterproof mascara. It’s a transparent gel and doesn’t change anything about your regular mascara. It doesn’t clump, doesn’t make them stiff, etc…it feels sticky at first but dries down in seconds. Waterproof mascara itself can prove heavier so non waterproof mascara might be a better option for those that wish to keep curl and not weight lashes down. This gel actually doesn’t add any weight to lashes so it allows you to have the lighter texture of a non waterproof formula with the wear of one that is. It does seal mascara in place as it is a little more difficult to remove at the end of the day. I tested it out by giving it time to set and proceed to swim with it on plus I rubbed my eyes a bit with it as well to see what would happen. Mascara stayed perfectly in place.

The inexpensive price tag also makes it a rather good pick up too if you have a large variety of non waterproof mascaras in your arsenal that you wish were a waterproof formula as this can easily convert them to one.

Of course, you can just go with a waterproof formula and call it a day. But for those that wish for the lighter texture of a non waterproof formula without adding extra weight this is an excellent pick! And of course, as I mentioned, those with a wide range of non waterproof mascaras they already own who wish to make them waterproof.

Interesting product.

It’s available now at Sephora, Ulta, or online at www.bareescentuals.com

I think this is a super awesome product! Some higher end mascaras don’t always come in a waterproof version, so this is nifty. I wish They’re Real came in waterproof so I could cry and still look fabulous. ;]

I can’t wait to try this! I have to wear waterproof since my eyes do tear on occasion, and most regular formulas make my lashes go straight. Most waterproof mascaras only come in black. If this works, now I can enjoy an intense black in a regular formula!

I’m getting married a month from tomorrow, this may be the solution to wanting to wear Le Volume de Chanel but acknowledging that I’m an emotional person…

    • Sarah

Congrats, Chelsea, me too! I was having exactly the same thoughts – getting married in a month, want to wear my YSL or Diorshow mascara, don’t like the waterproof ones on offer…maybe this would work!

  • Sunny

I love the idea of this! I’m always accidentally using my waterproof mascara, which doesn’t work well with my typical makeup removal routine. If I had this instead of my waterproof, I couldn’t accidentally use it. Awesome.

Hey Muse, does this Bare Minerals mascara help maintain the curl? I have long straight Asian eyelashes.

    • the Muse

not really anne but it won’t kill curl either as it’s lightweight.

  • celine d

Sounds like a great concept… Might have to check it out..

Muse -Quick ? What brand of mascara would you recommend for keeping the curl ?

    Thanks much!

hi celine really hard to say….there are too few that keep curl…I do love mac gigalash and feel like it is the best performing mascara I’ve tried in a LONG time and it keeps curl fairly well.

I have been using Anastasia Lash Genius and I love it. It really sets mascara nicely, separates and makes lashes appear longer. It removes quite easily. I use Lancôme’s Bi-Facil. I use it with my waterproof mascaras for extra long wear time. I have to use eye cream under my eyes due to my age and it really works well to keep my waterproof ones from smearing. The size is large like a full tube of mascara. I think the brush is an important factor. I will buy this one to try it out as it is less expensive. Thanks Muse!

  • Maggie

Hey Muse? How do you think this compares to the Anastasia Lash Genius? I LOVE that stuff but always wince at the price tag.

    • Maggie

So I just looked up ingredients for both and assuming ingredients were put up correctly, the first several ingredients seemed identical. So I’m going to give this a try even though I like the hourglass-shaped brush on Anastasia Lash Genius waaaayyyy more.

See, I find the exact opposite. I cannot wear regular mascara at all. I have yet to find a single non-waterproof mascara that works for me, they’re all too wet and they all kill ANY curl I get in my lashes because they’re too wet and too heavy. Waterproof formulas are lighter and drier and for me are the only way to keep the curl.

  • Kerri

Do you put it on while the waterproof mascara is still wet?
    Or wait til it dries?
    Thanks

I am saddeneed to find out this product has been discontinued! No idea why as it has been a lifesaver for me 🙁
