Chapstick Hydration Lock Review

Chapstick Hydration Lock ($2.99) is a new an improved Chapstick formula created with CoQ10 and hyaluronic filing spheres to hydrate lips, retain moisture, and give them a fuller appearance.

Wha?! All that for under three bucks?

How’d it work?

Mmm…Chapstick has slowly grown on me especially because they keep introducing really fun flavors, especially the festive ones! But it isn’t one of my top lip balm picks because it tends to run a little heavier although it has been years since I used the formula and it has improved considerably with a lighter, balmy texture and of course, it’s tasty as hell (so tasty that this one time at band camp I ate a whole tube of Cherry Chapstick but you heard that story before…!).

Chapstick Hydration Lock is a Vanilla Creme flavor and scent but the flavor is very, very, very subtle so subtle that I couldn’t really taste it at all once applied. This is great for those sensitive to fragrance/flavor in their lip products but a little disappointing if you actually love the flavor in your balm!

The formula is supposed to seal in moisture for eight hours and help to retain it. It also helps to plump and smooth lips thanks to filling spheres. Honestly, it feels more like the old formulated Chapstick to me, the one I didn’t really love. It’s a heavier, balmy texture and it does provide some moisture but I felt the need to reapply it often to keep that hydration in place. After removing it my lips do in fact feel softer but through the wear I felt the need to reapply often so I can keep that moisture sealed in!

If you like Chapstick this formula might be appealing and make for a good base for lipsticks and glosses. Personally I didn’t really love it. It was just a touch to heavy for me.

It’s available now at drugstores.

Tried it?

Do share!

Sounds like a great product. And for such a small price it’s definitely worth to try out ^^

I always struggle with flaking chapped lips, all year. Since having a baby I’ve been less consistent about keeping lips covered, was hoping this would help the fight without applying hourly. Not so much, unfortunately! At least it doesn’t have a funky scent like the blistec 5 star one!

Try mac lip conditioner, I get cracked bleeding lips and I’ve tried everything and that’s the only one that consistently protects and heals them 😀 it’s really good under lipstick too (especially dry mattes).

Bought last week on ebay: La mer’s lip balm. AMAZING for $35. Highly recommend, has great flavor and taste minty. It retails for $55, its one of the best I’ve tried.

I bought one just because I liked the idea of a vanilla chapstick and ended up liking it so much I bought a backup for my purse and an extra for my husband.

I, too, also received this in my Birchbox and was totally unimpressed. I would not repurchase this. It really did nothing to add significant moisture or anything that the packaging claimed. I find it a bit waxy as well. I like to have a little bit of slip on my lips but this just left my lips tacky. Not a winner for me unfortunately.

Okay, I know this post is pushing a year old, but I’ll comment anyway! Muse, I wanted to tell you about my new HG lip balm. I’ve read your posts for a good 6 months now, and I’m just now feeling the need to share with the cold weather looming. Anywho, I’ll stop my rambling and tell you that it’s the Peppermint Lip Balm from Mississippi Bees. It only has 5 ingredients, those being beeswax, almond oil, shea butter, vitamin E, and peppermint oil for flavor. I have a nasty habit of picking at my lips and this is the only thing that has kept me from doing that. The only drawback to this balm is that it’s a bit waxy, so it helps if you warm it first (I hold mine next to a light bulb) :). It’s only $3.50 a tube; you should try it! Sorry I just wrote you a flipping novella about a lip balm :/
