Wet n Wild Fergie Take On The Day Mattifying Powder Review
Wet n Wild Fergie Take On The Day Mattifying Powder is one of several new permanent products launching for Spring 2014 from Wet n Wild. I discovered Wet n Wild Take On the Day Mattifying Powder at Walgreens so I’m unsure at this point if it will launch at other drugstores but I’ll keep an eye out and let you know.
Wet n Wild Fergie Take On The Day Mattifying Powder ($4.99) is kinda Wet n Wild’s take on NARS Reflecting Setting Powder. At first I thought it was a simple translucent HD pressed powder but it actually has the smooth “ice skating rink” density that I associate with NARS formula.
It comes housed in a simple understated black compact with dual compartments featuring the powder on top and a small sponge on the bottom. I think they tried to dupe NARS version and they got it right slightly but it still needs a good deal of work. The texture is a drier, denser powder with a scratchy almost gritty feel. It actually has a very soft reflective pearl to it but unfortunately isn’t as transparent as I’d like. Running a sponge across it you won’t pick up very much product, likewise with a brush much likes the NARS formula. The best application is with a sponge in my opinion. It does a live a rather bad white cast on my skin and looks quite chalky and this is why I didn’t like it. It’ll blur the appearance of pores and perfect skin with a soft focus finish however, the white cast it leaves behind isn’t very flattering nor is the less than silky smooth texture of the product as you apply it!
NARS version is indeed transparent and much smoother and this is where I think Wet n Wild Take On the Day Mattifying Powder gets it things slightly wrong. This isn’t as smooth and feels a bit scratchy and it also isn’t completely translucent giving skin a very odd white cast.
If they did it right NARS would have some serious competition on their hands but unfortunately they got a few annoying things wrong about the formula which results in me giving it a big thumbs down.
Very nice try at duplicating an innovative product WnW but you didn’t quite get it right.
This is available now at drugstores.
