Mary Kay and Avon Take On CC Cream

CC Creams are trending for Summer 2014 so expect a big push with new drugstore options as well as high end ones.

Recently Avon CC Cream launched in five shades and more recently Mary Kay CC Cream became available in four.

Although we already explored Avon CC Cream let’s take another look at it as well as Mary Kay’s CC Cream.

Avon Ideal Flawless CC Color Corrector Cream ($11) does seem to win this race due to the inexpensive price tag, range of colors, as well as the higher SPF in their formula. Supposedly this formula fades the appearance of dark spots in as little as two weeks while evening skin tone and protecting it with SPF 50. The formula contains Vitamin C as well as licorice. It contains correcting pigments and pearls to improve the look of dullness.

Mary Kay CC Cream ($20) is the more lightweight formula but the price is higher. This one is limited to four shades with an SPF 15. The formula provides lightweight coverage according to the brand with a formula that evens skin tone but doesn’t technically treat.

Apparently Avon might be the winner here.

The bad new is the formula sound more like BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. Typically Asian CC Creams are available in a single white self adjusting shade. I wish we saw more of the self adjusting formula here in the US because I feel a little like I’m using a BB Cream more than a CC one. I’ve always compared CC Creams and BB Creams as BB Creams offering fuller coverage and CC Cream perfecting already good skin.

I am curious to try the formulas though! I have a feeling though that Avon’s Ideal Flawless CC Cream will be a lot like the Avon Ideal Flawless BB Cream!

What do you think?

What’s your fav CC Cream of the moment?

Wanna try the Mary Kay and Avon ones?

These are available now at shop.avon.com and www.marykay.com.

I didn’t like the Avon BB at all, it looked fine when first applied, but less than an hour later my skin was soooo oily it was unreal, not to mention the coverage looked and felt more like I was applying foundation instead of something lighter. Ruined my look for the day. But, with their CC cream I feel like it works so much better for me, it went on nicely, added a bit of coverage, lasted throughout my day, and didn’t get obscenely greasy. However, i do wonder how well this would work for someone with drier skin– I almost think it might be too dry for them… I’m loving that higher SPF in it since I apply some facial products that call for a little extra sun protection.

I’m actually relieved the CC Cream isn’t a dupe of the BB as they look identical!!!!!!!!!! thanks for your mini review ash! very helpful!

I have 2 CC creams that I love. One is by PUR Minerals and the other is by IT Cosmetics. They both cost more than Avon or Mary Kay but I love them both for different reasons. IT is full coverage, hydrating, long lasting and an SPF of 50!!. PUR does have good coverage but I feel it is more of a perfector. It’s more luminous and doesn’t have quite the staying power of IT and a lower SPF. Those are my holy grails.

I got a sample of the PUR Minerals one in one of my Birchboxes and I really liked it! I havent seen the one by IT. I’ve also just tried a sample of Supergoop CC cream. They only have 2 colors to choose from, but the tube says shade adjusting. I think that one has been the best one I’ve tried so far…

I am using the Avon CC cream in Light Medium. I have fairly prominent melasma and find that it is fading a bit! I was really pleasantly surprised.

In Europe Avon CC cream has been out for months now. I have shade nude. Not really impressed, there are some shimmer in it.

I love the mary kay CC. It may be a lot like a tinted moisturizer, but I would say it has fuller coverage, and has light reflecting properties. It is replacing my bare minerals powder. Really just makes my skin look good and I am sloppy about application so that is kind of amazing.
