Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara Review

Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara

Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara ($22) is a new mascara Josie launched for Fall 2014 that provides 24 hours worth of length, volume, lift, and curl to your lashes with a nourishing, lash softening formula made with 100% pure argan mixed into the blackest of black mineral pigments!

I love Josie, I love her products but Argan Black Oil Mascara was a bit disappointing.

This has an innovative brush that features five sectional clumps of bristles that’s supposed to reach each and every lash and add lift and curl however, for me it produces more of a softer, fluttery look.

Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara 1

I have several complaints about this one being it isn’t the blackest of black mascaras it’s promised as. Secondly, the promise of 24 hour wear is iffy because personally it worked fine on me without flaking or smudging but two of my friends had purchased it as well, both of which have oily eyes, and it did NOT stand up against humidity and smeared a good deal. And finally it fails to bring the length and volume it promises. It is a lightweight formula that feels quite great on lashes but I found the brush was awkward to use as it didn’t want to pull my lashes up and out but merely wanted to “twirl” them around. I didn’t get any real curl from it nor did it add length or any volume to my look. It did however, produce shorter, fluttery lashes! Oddly enough I already have fairly long lashes but this seemed to shorten them…!

Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara Before and After

Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara Before and After

Overall, Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara seems like an interesting concept with it having Argan Oil in the formula but the results are mediocre at best.

This one could possibly be skipped in my opinion.

Thanks for the review muse. I’ll be checking that one off my list. I have oily eyes so this isn’t gonna cut it.

Sigh… I’m still testing my newest mascara (Maybelline Full n’ Soft) and it looks like it’s going to be yet another mascara that doesn’t work for me. They don’t keep my lashes up!

I’m seriously thinking about falsies. The problem is the ones I see are super long. And all the tutorials on trimming lashes are about adjusting the width across your eye, not cutting the length. I’m not an idiot. I get the width. I need to figure out how to shorten false lashes without destroying the shape. Any advice?

This may actually be perfect for me. I have long lashes (thank you, Latisse) and don’t need a heavy duty mascara. I fall asleep with my makeup on a couple times a week (I know, I know) and a 24 hour conditioning mascara sounds awesome.

I’d like to try it out but it’s not waterproof which immediately renders if off my radar. Full n Soft Waterproof is my HG, and nothing non-wp keeps my lashes from uncurling.

Hello! I live in Brazil where most make-up brands are so expensive with ridiculous prices so you’re basically my guru, so I only buy things that are recommended by you. Im really looking for a creamy mascara, thats feel hydrating and comfortable, just like the josie GOGO mascara, wich was discontinued here.I dont need much performance cause I already have big curled lashes, so just a hint of color and hydration is enough. Im running away from dry formulas. Do you have any suggestion? thank you and love your blog.

hi cassia! Honestly, I really don’t run into hydrating mascaras or conditioning ones very much so I don’t have any recs for you! 🙁 I will say if you want something really soft and fluttery with a lightweight texture that won’t break lashes off the It Cosmetics Tightliner Mascara is a good pick up! Especially if your lashes are already very curly and long 🙂 Sorry I don’t have more recs/suggestions for you!

Thanks for the review, Muse. I have a lot of problems with mascara making my eyelashes fall out in clumps. I used to buy the Josie Maran BOGO, which I loved, but it looks like they replaced it with Black Oil. I actually love it. I am a big fan of huge, fluffy brushes and ink black color and this delivers for me. The only drawback I found was that I have an oily eye area and it does smudge a bit. My lashes are pretty skimpy and this does give me a lot of volume and if I use 2-3 coats – vavoom! But most importantly for those gals who have a lot of trouble with eyelash loss and itchy eyes, this is one of the very few mascara’s that does not create those issues. At least for me.
