NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liners

NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner ($12) is a new permanent eyeliner pencil launching with the NYX Spring 2015 Makeup Collection in two shades. This is a gel formula that promises rich color pay off and acts the way a pot gel liner would but in a pencil formula so no need for a brush!

Take a look!

NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner

NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner is an interesting concept. Basically this takes the formula of a pot gel eyeliner and puts it in an easier to use pencil eyeliner format. These are a twist up pencil design but they do have a stealthy hidden sharpener located in the top tip of the pencil which can be used to keep the precise point. It does look like a traditional pencil but it is in fact a twist up design.

I actually expected a Perversion-like formula from Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner. When you’re promising a formula that’s rich and as pigmented as a pot gel eyeliner instantly I think of Urban Decay Perversion because that’s truly one of the blackest black formulas I’ve had the pleasure of using. This is nicely pigmented but not as pigmented as Perversion or a pot gel eyeliner for that matter. Granted, it’s not weak in the pigment department either! Both the Pitch Black and Brown shades had excellent pigmentation but I admit I expected MORE…!

These are formulated with a nice creamy texture that applies easily onto the lash line without skipping or tugging. They have a satin look that sets to a waterproof finish on my drier eyes. I had no issues with smudging, no problems with flaking, and the liner stayed where I put it for a solid eight hours.

I didn’t love how the brown applied on my waterline, it just didn’t seem intense enough. Pitch Black was a better option for waterline and tightlining work but again the color didn’t seem to apply intensely enough in these areas!

So after using these a little bit I’ve come to the conclusion that I can get LOreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner for around $7 bucks at Harmons and I like the formula a lot better. It’s super pigmented, works great on my waterline, and wears super long plus I’m saving $5 bucks.

NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner is an ok eyeliner but I can’t say I was wowed by it! Dare I say $12 is a bit much for NYX?

You might want to check these out if they are on sale but I’ve tried much better eyeliners!

Anyone try them?

I also think $12 is a little pricey for this. The formula doesn’t sound too bad but for a few bucks more you can hit the department store and find something better. I can skip this

I don’t use eyeliners on my waterline as I am worried about irritation to my eyes. But if I was I would not use these – your review has convinced me to try the L’Oreal products instead.

i really like the l’oreal ones a lot 😀 very creamy, kinda cheaper version of Urban Decay!

Hey Muse love your each and every post. You give really good and detailed reviews of products which help me decide whether or not buy the product and also help me save lot of money. Thanks a lot Muse and keep up the good work.
Anyway coming to the point, You have mentioned in your post that L’Oreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner works great on the waterline. I have a difference experience as far as Loreal silkissime eyeliner is concerned, when I put it on my waterliner my eyes become watery. It happens every time I put this on my waterliner. Same thing happened with Loreal Extra intense liquid pencil eyeliner and Maybelline Master Drama Cream pencil liner. Don’t know why???

    • Isabella Muse

thanks Ayman! very flattered to hear that 🙂 Not sure Ayaman perhaps you are allergic to some ingredient. I don’t have this issue!?

That’s funny, because Loreal owns Nyx now, right? It was a concern with people that the prices would go up under the new ownership and from the looks of it, that’s all too true. But you’d think the Nyx eyeliners would be on par with the Loreal ones…

cannot figure out how to use the sharpener on this gel pencil

Is there anyone who can tell me

        Thanks

So I’m having a issue and need help “♀️ My waterline is super watery and anything I try ends up making me look like a trash panda in less than a hour it migrates and pools at the outer corners underneath my winged eye liner! I bought NYX TRES JOLIE but can’t get it to actually apply or transfer onto my waterline what am I doing wrong or better yet what could be a better option
