Sephora Colorful Duo Reflects Colorful Eyeshadow ($13) recently launched in several limited edition shades for Spring 2015.

According to Sephora the Colorful Duo Reflects Colorful Eyeshadow formula offers a pearly intense multicolored shimmer that provides a deep color changing effect in certain lights. Basically these are supposed have a duochrome effect.

Take a look!

I only purchased the shade Hidden Treasure which I’m thankful for because originally I had almost all the shades in my cart but I decided I’d try one and if I liked them I’d purchase the others. The shadows come in a smaller black pot and are 0.07 oz in size with a mermaid scale design.

I’m glad I only got one as I didn’t like the formula and I didn’t feel that the one shade I did try didn’t really have a duochrome effect at all. They can be used wet or dry but I actually saw very little difference when using them this way.

Sephora Hidden Treasures Colorful Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is an olive green with golden shimmer. I LOVE shades like this as they work well with my brown eyes. However, I thought the formula was really dense and dry. I hated the texture unfortunately and I thought it was the main problem with the formula. I was shocked because typically Sephora has some very nice velvety textured shadows. But this kinda felt dry and sorta gritty with a bit of sparkly fall out. They apply best with sponge eyeshadow applicators as with a regular brush I had a hard time picking up color and building it.

The color does not shift at all in my experience. If I apply i wet it does look a bit more foiled but again, the color doesn’t shift so I’m not really seeing the duochrome effect.

I thought maybe some of the other shades would prove better but Hidden Treasures kinda made me wary to retry others as this particular shade disappointed!

Oh well!

I’m just happy I didn’t purchase all the shades in one go.

Have you tried any?

I got the mermaid shade and it looks okay but I’m going to try it over green and black bases 🙂

it’s ok for me too, but the formula is kinda just dry and blah! Over a black base could prove interesting maybe you’ll see a color shift better that way!

Don’t bother trying the other shades. I actually bought them all and was extremely disappointed with all of them. The only one that was slightly duochrome was Mermaid’s Tail, but because the texture was so dry and gritty. I really had to pack on the colour with a flat brush or my fingers to see anything. Also, while they base colour looked okay initially, it would fade really quickly to a sooty colour.

I ended up returning all of them except Hidden Treasure. Why you ask? It’s because the way it sparkles and twinkles under low light is quite stunning. My husband thought it was unique enough to keep. LOL! I just applied it to a similar green I had in the Sleek Garden of Eden palette, and it looked pretty cool.

Also, Siren Charm is exactly the same as Colour Pop’s Cricket, so if you want that colour, go with the $5 option. 🙂

thank YOU! saved me money! 😀 I was going to try another shade, thought it might be a fluke!

I bought Mermaid Tail, and I was quite impressed with it. The other ones don’t have much in the way of duochrome, but this one is good. TBH you’re better off buying NARS Malacca.

Oh, also– I did not find Mermaid Tail to be all that dry. It’s possible the above poster got a bum package. I quite like it as a crease color.

I thought I got a dud, too, so I went and swatched the tester (brand new and untouched) at two different locations, and they were both the same. Bummer!

I agree with you about Nars Malacca. I have that too! It’s not quite as sparkly and is a bit deeper in tone, but it was similar. 🙂 Money saved! Glad yours was good!

I find Sephora’s shadows to be hit or miss, I’ve returned some. I don’t buy anymore without reading at least several positive reviews and/or swatching in store. It’s too bad, this one has a really cute mermaid tail design.

I was actually thinking that this could have been my first Sephora branded product. They were available at my local Sephora@JCP and I swatched it in hopes that it would meet or exceed my expectations of duo-chromey happiness. As an eyeshadow, it’s okay…if they hadn’t claimed that it was going to be a multi-chromey shimmerxtravaganza, I probably would have been pleased with it. I think I swatched the shade “Mermaid’s something” and it was a nice shimmery monochrome color; but it wasn’t what I wanted. I ended up getting Urban Decay’s moondust in “Solstice” and boy is it a buttery, shade-shifting pan of pixie dust!

I bought the mermaid one and ended up returning it. I felt that it switched beautifully but the glitter kept falling into the corners of my eyes and it was getting in my eyes it was a totally mess.

  • angie

the pattern of the eyeshadow really reminds me of colourpop super shock eyeshadow, which is the bomb for me (in a good way)…have you tried them Muse?

  • Genevieve

Love the colour and I can see why you choose it. It would suit me perfectly. BUT I also think that the fallout sparkly bits would be irritating to my eye. What a shame it is not of good quality.
