I’m happy to see fluid foundations alive and kicking with the launch of the new Cover FX Custom Cover Drops! Recently, Physicians Formula Nude Wear Touch of Glow Foundation launched which I quite loved but I honestly didn’t expect to see any mid range or high end brands introducing a new fluid foundation so close to Summer so thank you Cover FX for keeping the trend alive.

As a Cover FX groupie I’m excited about this new foundation! It’ll be available in 24 shades which gives a vast spectrum of skin tone a chance to find a match!

Let’s take a look!

cover fx custom cover drops

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops ($44) is a sheer tint fluid foundation that offers total coverage. This is one of those custom formulas that can easily worn sheer or built up for more coverage. You can actually mix it with your favorite products such as moisturizers, serums, oils, primers, etc that are water, oil, or even silicone based to create your own tinted moisturizer of sorts. The drops feature a Flash Fusion that bonds with your favorite foundation or primer to create a sheer or total coverage foundation product.

It’s not mentioned using it directly out of the bottle on its own but is promoted as a mixing agent of sorts. I don’t doubt it’ll work on its own as well as mixed with other products! I kinda like the idea the formula works well with a variety of formulas and products to create a customized foundation product of sorts. If you’re a mad scientist type of makeup girl or guy I’m sure the idea of mixing up your own custom foundation is very appealing!

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops are available now at Sephora.com.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’m so sad because this sounds amazing but at $44 for only .5 ounces, that is crazy expensive!

i’m kinda thinking it might be super pigmented and that would justify the cost as a little would go a long way! 🙂

WOW! I was so ready to buy this after watching the video, but, like Kara said, $44 for .5 oz. is crazy expensive!!! It probably cost $10 including the bottle to make this stuff, so price gouging for a new product is an understatement!!

I went ahead and purchased ..was intrigued by the concept of using with primers etc etc.. Expensive but in all honesty I don’t feel you would run through this quickly. I use this with one of the new make up for ever primers (smoothing one) use almost 2 drops and the coverage is amazing. It is super pigmented so alittle goes a long long way. I have all over oily skin and some minor acne scaring / blemishes. I get great coverage plus the benefit of the primer. I get a good 8 hr wear. I use mineral veil as a finishing/ setting powder. I have been using this for 3 days now and so far so good.

Thank you for sharing Melanie! I was nervous because of the cost and trying to figure out which approach would be best for using it. I have oily skin too so it helps to know that this worked okay mixed in with primer and gave you great coverage. Thanks!

Hi Kara.. It’s worth a try plus Sephora has a pretty great return policy if it doesn’t work for you. That’s a lot of money to let it sit in a drawer and never use. I do like the concept of being able to mix it with primers etc….I am still experimenting with it….. I hope it works out for you 🙂

If I can find a suitable shade, I will *definitely* be picking this up! Yes, $44 seems a bit “steep” for the amount of product, but considering it’s a concentrate, it’s basically straight pigment, which allows ones own moisturizer to be the “carrier”, meaning it will last as long (or even longer) than the more traditional foundations. Also, CoverFX uses “clean” ingredients in all their products, so there are no fillers (ie, petroleum byproducts, propylene glycol-eaaentially anti-freeze) that we see in even the most “luxurious” foundations, and are very inexpensive to use-which is where the real “price gouging” lies. Obviously, the more expensive the ingredients, the less of a profit margin.

I have the Ardency Inn version of this, which is unfortunately a bit too dark/warm for me, so although I absolutely love it, I can’t wear it as often as I’d like. Based on what I’ve seen in CoverFX foundations, I’m confident I can find a better match.

agreed amy. I wasn’t bothered by the price due to all the reasons you stated! I’m quite curious about this and knowing the coverage Cover FX has provided in the past I don’t think I’ll be disappointed!

  • Darliris

I just ordered it! I did not even know that this existed. Thanks to you now I know. I am excited to be able to play “Scientist”, and be able to customize my own foundation according to my preference and needs. Cannot wait to try it!

    • Isabella Muse

yay! I hope it’s great darliris 🙂 I haven’t tried yet so you’ll have to let me know!

I have been using this for about two weeks and LOVE this, I prime my face with the MUFE maritime and smoothing primers, THEN I mix this with hourglass mineral veil, the finish and coverage is beautiful! Instant game changer! And it lasts all day!

I would definitely give this a try, I only use 4 drops each application.

Hmm…I’m interested, but that price! I’m going to hold back until I see more reviews and swatches of the shade that I think will be closest to my skin tone (or wait and see if my Sephora gets them in store and I can see in person).

But I’m pretty tempted to order it after reading that people have mixed it with foundations/bb creams to good results. Personally, I’ve yet to find a foundation that a)is full cover to my standards, b)comes in a shade light enough for me and c)works well with my super-dry skin. The first one is the sticking point, since I have found a couple of foundations/bb creams that cover the second two pretty well (bless you, Missha Perfect Cover). I like the thought of using the drops as a “booster” to tip a foundation over into full coverage and seems like a good way of making sure that the drops last longer. (because 88 bucks an ounce? Ouch!)
