L'Oreal Color Riche La Palette Nude

I haven’t personally found them in stores but the L’Oreal Color Riche La Palette Nude 1 and L’Oreal Color Riche La Palette Nude 2 Eyeshadow Palettes have launched on Ulta’s site today!

The first version actually had a UK release earlier in the year but I’m not sure if they also got the second version as I’m a little behind on my UK beauty news! None the less we are finally get them here in the US!

They feel to be like a nod to Maybelline’s the Nudes Palettes (which I didn’t love) and from the promo images I’ve seen looks like the formula might be as dry but I’m keeping hope alive until I actually try them myself.

Let’s take a peek!

Master the art of nude. Inspirited by make up designer ‘must have’ palettes, everything you need to master the art of nude eye shadow. Nude master-class looks exclusively designed for each palette. Recreate in 4 easy steps or craft your own eye look. 3 shadow finishes: shimmery satin, buttery matte, and lustrous sheens in 10 highly pigmented shades curated to blend harmoniously for endless looks.

L’Oréal Color Riche La Palette Nude 1 look like more traditional shades of nude with beige, golds, and smoky browns where as L’Oréal Color Riche La Palette Nude 2 looks like a selection of mauves and purples. Or at least promo images give that appearance!

I’m looking forward to seeing how these measure up to Maybelline’s new eyeshadow palettes. I will say the $19.99 price tag shocks me! That’s pretty high considering Maybelline is at around $14.99 at a high price and around $11.99 on the low end. But…sales are plentiful at the drugstore and coupons and such so you likely won’t shell out that much to own this!

Although I steered clear of the Maybelline palettes (their shadows always suck), I caved and ordered both of these L’Oreal palettes. I know L’Oreal owns Maybelline — but they own Urban Decay, too, so there is hope.

At least that’s what I tell myself. With the buy one, get one 1/2 sale and $3.50 coupon at Ulta, it wasn’t too bad, and I have liked some L’Oreal shadows (Infallibles) in the past, so maybe this won’t be a waste of money.

BTW I have to admit that since L’Oreal took over UD, Urban Decay not only has lost some of its “indy” vibe for me, but I think thir shadows aren’t as good quality as pre-L’Oreal. Just IMO.

    • Isabella Muse

I was tempted but I held back because I was being cheap about paying shipping haha 😀 I agree! which was the last palette release? can’t recall the name, wasn’t UD’s typical formula for sure!

Hello there. I just received the loreal la palette nude in shade 02 from walmart today and I was not impressed. The eyeshadows were very soft and powdery and lacked pigmentation. The shades are very similar to Nyx cavier and bubbles runway eyeshadow palette, except the colors are more flat and matte. The purples and mauves looked more brown than the online swatches. There isn’t much variation and mid tone browns/grays blend into one color. It is a poor dupe for naked 3 contrarily to what other people say. I am just going to return it to the store and splurge on one of the naked palettes.:| i don’t know which one yet, but i am leaning towards naked 1 since it looks universally flattering and versatile. Some people online say the pigmentation of naked is the worst of three palettes, so it is hard to reach a decision. I suppose i will trust my intuition instead^^ maybe…

        • Isabella Muse

thanks for sharing janelle! very helpful and exactly what I suspected!

          • MaryAnn

Please try these for yourself before making a decision. I have palette 2 and LOVE it. A Two colors are not very pigmented (the two lightest shades) but still buildabe. I am loving these shadows. .try them for yourself.

First of all, L’Oréal owns Lancôme, Armani, YSL…, and way too many others to list, and none of those brands have “suffered” under the L’Oréal umbrella. Second, UD was under the control of a venture capital firm for many, many years (thus losing “indy” status a looong time ago), and maintained the same control they had prior, and still do now; L’Oréal has *nothing* to do with the manufacture/creation of products, but simply serve as a source of funding, as evidenced by the fact UD still has the same officers in place. The Shadow Box most likely “suffered” in quality due to the pans being so much smaller, which happens in every brand.

L’Oréal shadows are definitely hit & miss, but I’ve had some that rival even the best UD shadows, not only in quality, but also in unique color selections. I also have the UD Mariposa palette, which was released well before it was even mentioned L’Oréal would be buying UD, and it sucks…

I’m looking forward to these palettes, but I’m not expecting a lot; admittedly, L’Oréal does much better singles, but they have done some really great quads in the past. Hopefully, these will have the same quality of the singles, which are *amazing*-even the mattes!

      • Isabella Muse

I don’t smaller pans were the issue with the shadow box. It’s just a decrease in quality. Sometimes brands “cheapen” up things when it comes to larger palettes and that might be what UD finally fell victim to. They likely went with a more affordable option to fill the palette in order to offer it at a better price. I wouldn’t say it was the pans being smaller, the formula def felt a lot different to me compared to other UD eyeshadows and palettes.

        • Robin

Not trying to turn this into a UD topic, but yes, their quality has changed. I love their Naked 3 palette and their Naked liquid foundation was my HG for a few years. The last two bottle of foundation were not the same consistency. More runny and didn’t cover as well. I moved on to Clarin’s foundation which I love. It’s not just the eyeshadows that have changed.

          • amy

Well, considering the Naked 3 palette & Naked foundations came about *after* L’Oréal acquired the brand, it’s a bit obvious the acquisition had nothing to do with it. Besides, *every* brand revamps their lines at one time or another, and not everyone will embrace the change. MUFE seemed to impress most people with their new shadows, but I can’t stand them, yet they also consistently got rave reviews beforehand… Perhaps these “changes” to UD were already in the works…?

        • amy

I’ve just noticed with most smaller eyeshadow brands, when the pan is smaller, they tend to be more tightly pressed, and the initial uses prove more difficult than the full-sized counterparts. Eventually, they do become easier to use, but by then most of us have given up on them, andthey get banished to the back of the shelf.

          • Isabella Muse

interesting! I honestly never noticed that about smaller pans. I tend to use a sponge applicator when the pan is smaller as they wriggle into those smaller pans easier!

  • Christina D.

Urban Decay’s Shadowbox! I tried to make it work and finally gave up. Since when do UD shadows feel gritty? I included it in a box of barely used cosmetics to sell.

I hate paying for shipping, especially being Ulta Platinum! I only managed to get the $50 free shipping because yesterday’s deal was Tarte’s Lash Primer for $10 (normally $22) so I scored a couple of those.

    • Isabella Muse

YES thanks! I was having a brain fart! I do too. It just feels like everyone should be offering free shipping especially on something small like makeup items!

  • Christina D.

Or free shipping when you reach a certain spend level. I get free shipping on everything from Sephora because I’m a VIB Rouge. I’ve earned it! And I suspect you have as well…

    • Isabella Muse

AGREED like I’m a platinum memeber would be nice if they offered free ship to us! Yup! got the VIB Rouge Free Shipping but as far as I’m concerned it’s still slow as hell though!

  • Carrie

I can confirm that Target has these/will have these! I noticed that a lot of them have started to change their cosmetics area!

  • barbara

you can get these on Walmart.com. I have them already and I have to say they are just okay. I haven’t decided if I am going to keep them yet.

    • Lacy

@ Barbara – what did you not like about the palettes? Also how is the shade selection in 02? They all seem to very dark. Do you by chance have swatches we could view?

    • Krystle

I concur. I have them both as well and they’re pretty meh. Decent if you somehow don’t have anything like them, definitely better than the Maybelline Nudes palette, but still meh.

  • Lacy

I needed to stock up on some essentials so I caved and ordered the 02 off walmart.com even though I’m not a big fan and received free shipping. Mine should be here tomorrow!

I can confirm I have seen these in person at target with a fully stocked display (of course 2 days after I ordered online *face palm)

I was at my closest ulta earlier today and they had the display/signage up but no palettes were stocked. I’ve also seen the same EMPTY displays at all of the local CVS around here.

Target had them for 14.99 each, walmart online is 15.84.

I hope I like the colors more after swatching 02 because I’m looking for a palette with purples/maroons/taupes/gray… so I can do my own wedding makeup.. However, after seeing it in person at Target I fear that many of the colors appear to be very dark.. ><

    • Isabella Muse

lmk the scoop after you tried 🙂 I looked for it but no luck finding at target 🙂 not bad at $14.99! $20 toes the line for me though!

  • Jenna

I own both of these and they are SO much better than the Maybelline Nudes. In fact, Nude 1 had quite a few Naked 2 dupes in it and the formula was soft and buttery. When I swatched it next to Urban Decay I couldn’t tell the difference! Nude 2 had mostly matte shades, a lot of which reminded me of the shades in the Tartelette palette. There were no actual dupes, but the shades were just slightly off. I found them at Walmart and they’re a great buy, IMO.

    • Tequila Mockinbird

I hope these are as pigmented as they claim to be. A ton of nude palettes – both high and low end – are dominated by shades too light to show up on my light-medium olive skin. I really want these palettes to work out because they look like the kind of colors I’ve been trying to assemble into my own nude eye collection due to my aforementioned grievances with previous nude palettes.

  • Maria

Thanks Muse. Something to add to my makeup list. These shades look nice. I wonder how the staying power is. I always use eye primer for all my shadows.

  • Jade

These look nice but the only L’Oreal shadows I like are the Infallible ones.. the others I find dry, patchy and sheer D:

  • Jackie

Personally, I think these look GREAT! Esp. the palette 2.
I will say that I can’t stand Smashbox palettes, find the eyeshadow to be terrible quality. I didn’t bother with the Maybelline nude palettes. And any huge cheap palettes are most likely crap. I’ve bought the Coastal Scents “hotpot” single shadows sometimes on sale for 99 cents apiece, and I would compare their consistency and quality to high end shadows ANY day of the week…. BUT their large compilation palettes with smaller shadow pots are terrible! Completely different product. If anyone hasn’t tried them, go pick up some of those singles, put them in a ZPalette with some MAC single shadows and see if you can tell the difference. I’ve been using MAC shadow for over 15 yrs and it’s my #1, but these things are incredible.
Back on topic….I ordered these L’Oreal palettes from Ulta because they were on sale & I had about $23 in bonus points. I’m anxious to get them because it’s about time L’Oreal came out with a nude palette and I like their eyeshadow quality. I’m a palette junkie/whore!!! 🙂

    • Diana

I agree, the Coastal Scents Hot Pots are amazing! Have you tried Morphe Single shadows? Fabulous!!!!

  • Carol G

Just picked these both up today at Target, although in my neck of the woods they were $15.99 each. Still way better than Ulta (or I suspect Walgreens/CVS) price wise. I figured my Ulta wouldn’t have these anyway because the one by my work is pretty lame. They never have new stuff in a timely manner!

  • Katherine T.

Muse, I’ve seen some swatches /reviews online of the neutral palette, and they look very decent, much better than the Maybelline ones, so you might want to check them out.

  • Christina

Hmmm…Nude 1 reminds me a bit of the new YSL Nude eyeshadow palette – but for a heck of a lot less $$. I think L’oreal owns YSL…?

  • barbara

Sorry I don’t have a picture of swatches, but I checked You Tube and there are a few videos out there of them. It is not that I don’t like them. They perform better than the Maybelline nudes, more pigmentation and they do have a good variety of color. Maybe for traveling they would be good, so you don’t have to risk losing or ruining your more expensive palettes. If you are someone who does not own any higher end palettes like Naked, etc… then I think these will do the trick, as they are pretty and you can get good looks out of them. But if you already own higher end palettes then I feel like you would want to reach for them over these.

  • Genevieve

The only drugstore eyeshadows I like are the L’Oreal Infallible ones. I have found in the past that most of the others are just substandard. I use to use Revlon, Rimmel etc. but when I started buying Estee Lauder, Duerlain and Dior – they are beautiful. Of course I read the reviews first because even high end brands can have duds.
When I bought the UD Naked 1 (and I should have bought 2 but didn’t know the difference!) I had every neutral colour I could wish for.
I think these palettes from L’Oreal are a much cheapened version of Lorac Pro Palette and the Naked palettes.
Don’t waste your money – get the Naked or Pro palette as they are much better quality, pigmentation and they will last a very long time.

  • Diana

I picked up Nude 2 today at Walmart and have only swatched them so far. I have to say, with the exception of a couple of shadows, for a drugstore palette I’m happy so far. I am hesitant to admit that I purchased it mainly for the 2 shadows on the far right of the palette, as I’m on a plum shadow kick as of late, and I’m happy to say they swatch beautifully! I also purchased the Color Riche quad in Unforgettable Lilac (which I LOVE by the way) because I had a coupon for $5 off a $20 Loreal purchase.

  • janelle

Hi there. So i compared the shades of the loreal la palette nude in rose to the online swatches from uk. I realized that the color scheme is quite different. Even the colors are differently arranged and no one mentioned this online not that i know of. The la nude palette released by the uk has more rose gold/shimmers/purples/mauves as opposed to the us version which has almost all matte and dull colors. For those who are interested in the la nude palette with a better shade selection, i was wondering why it look better on other people with similar fair skin as me, but us and uk versions are very differe t.it might be worth ordering from the boots website and pay for international shipping.it comes with a bigger mirror too which is a plus.

  • Monica

I’m trying the Infallible shadows that I have more often because it seems everyone loves them. I didn’t bother with the Maybelline on because of horrible reviews. I have the Pro Pallette & have yet to buy an UD one. I just ordered the Loreal ones for my work but I’m not sure if we’ll get them in (ordered directly from Loreal). I’m anxious to try Makeup Geek for shadows & I might have to but some Coastal Scents singles. Muse, I can’t wait for you to review them because you are always spot on with reviews. 😀

  • Jessica Edlund

I just bought both palettes today, and I was pleasantly surprised with them! I like them so far, they feel nice and buttery. The pigmentation is decent, and the shade selection is nice. A cheaper alternative to UD Naked palettes!

  • mirandagrosvenor

I finally saw these in person, and while I admittedly wasn’t in the best frame of mind, all I can say is wow, what a letdown. So many of the shades looked muddy and dull, and the packaging itself looked cheap. Unless these go on sale for $3 or something I won’t be indulging.

For everyone who said about Naked3 being less pigmented than the first 2: I would agree, but I think it’s a difference in what the shades are rather than quality. I personally don’t mind because I can just stick my brush in any shade and throw it on and not worry about it being too heavy. Some ofthe Naked 1 sshades I really have to be careful with cause I’m so pale.

  • Amy T

I just found these at my Walmart yesterday for 14.99 I’ve yet to try them but I’m soooooooo excited to try can’t wait

  • Victoria

I really fell in love with the LA Palette Nude 2! I picked it up at my local Walgreen’s and just got my hands on the LA Palette Nude 1 just yesterday!!! I love the shadows in the 2nd palette! The shadow shades looked fabulous on my dark Brown eyes!!! I can’t wait to crack open LA Palette Nude 1 and try it out!!!! #Amazing ColorPayoff
