Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer ($36) is a new facial primer available in ten color correcting shades. I know what you must be thinking because I’m thinking it too! Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer from Fall 2008 might have crossed your mind or even Clinique Superprimer’s Collection.

The idea of a color correcting primer isn’t new and for Make Up For Ever it’s even less so considering they released such a product in the past!

But who knows these new s Step 1 Skin Equalizers might just be a formula we haven’t seen before.

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer is formulated with Hyaluronic Acid (that’s new!) and promises to hydrate, retain moisture, firm, and smooth skin in preparation for foundation. The creamy texture absorbs easily into skin while smoothing away pores and creating a more even tone thanks to color correcting pigments.

A makeup primer that assists with balancing the skin’s texture and tone for smoother, more even, and longer-lasting makeup wear.

Here are some of the benefits of the shades available:

  • Radiant Primer Blue adds radiance to light skin.
  • Radiant Primer Pink adds radiance to light to medium skin.
  • Radiant Primer Yellow adds radiance to light to medium skin.
  • Radiant Primer Peach adds radiance to medium to tan skin.
  • Radiant Primer Caramel adds radiance to dark skin.

There’s are also three transparent formulas offered that have hydrating, mattifying, and nourishing formulas for a variety of skin types and concerns.

It seems like color correcting formulas always get a big push in the Spring/Summer so I imagine you’ll see a lot of brands launching their own variations of facial primers this year. I think less emphasis is going to be placed on pigmented CC Creams but we will see lighter, sheerer color correcting primers such as Step 1 Skin Equalizer. NYX has new CC Creams that are also similarly formulated for prepping and correcting skin tone that launched for Spring 2015 so I imagine more brands will jump on this bandwagon shortly.

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer is available now at Sephora and Sephora.com.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Can’t wait to try the mattifying one. I have a really oily t-zone and the few reviews up sound like this with be perfect for me.

Hmmm… wonder what the difference is between the hydrating and the nourishing one?….. They don’t list ingredients on sephora.com.. May have to stop in and get samples of each to see if I like one better than the other…

    Like I need moar/another primer… Sheesh….

I concur, I wondered the same thing. I’m thinking one might be anti aging?

I saw in a promo video – on the sephora product page – that the hydrating is for “normal skin with occasional dryness,” and the nourishing is for “constant dryness.”

I got samples of the mattifying and hydrating primers from the mufe boutique the other day. I like them–very lightweight, not a silicone texture. The hydrating one feels more like a serum than a primer, but it does seem to smooth a bit. The mattifying one is not something you can wear all over the face though; doesn’t spread, has to be pressed in.
