Sephora Face Mask Review
The Sephora Face Mask Collection is a new eight formula permanent face sheet mask launch that arrived this Spring online and in stores for $6 each or grab up the Sephora Paper Mask Discovery Set which includes five masks for $24.
I happen to be a massive face mask fan girl! I love Asian Sheet Masks with a passion and use them two or three times a week. There are such a vast array of masks available in Korea and Japan plus they are very, very cheap.
It’s nice to see that the US market is slowly catching up to the sheet mask craze but still we are slow going and it’s not like you can head to your local drugstore and pick up a bunch of sheet masks as easily as you could if you were in a Korean drugstore.
None the less I love that Sephora has an entire range of Face Masks now to choose from and they even have a buy 4 get 1 free promotion on going at the moment but…
I don’t like these at all 🙁
When it comes to face masks my biggest pet peeve is a mask that fits poorly and that’s exactly one of the issues with these masks! More on that in a bit.
These come housed in an individual disk packaging which has a detectable pouch that contains the mask. It’s a lot of packaging for one mask haha…! You can get a 10 pack of masks for around $10 to $13 and a single mask from Sephora sets you back $6 or you can get one free if you purchase four which brings it down to $4.80 a mask but even with that promotion it’s still pretty expensive. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t mind the price if I actually liked the formula and the masks but I don’t so it feels a little costly to me.
Like Asian Sheet Masks, Sephora offers a variety of formulas that add moisture, brighten skin, tone, perfect, etc…..there are eight formulations to choose from!
I tried the Rose Mask which is a moisturizing and brightening formula that has a fresh floral scent and Pomegranate which is a anti-fatigue and energizing mask, this one smells like beer! Eeep! Not good!
To use the masks simply slip them from the pouch and place on your face for 15 to 20 minutes. Each mask is made from a cotton fiber and is saturated with essence. The masks have a cut out for your eyes and mouth and they’ll stick easily onto your face. They are good for a single use only. After 20 minutes remove them, pat your hands gently on your face so excess essence absorbs fully, and you’re done!
Unfortunately, I feel like neither mask did much for me. They were kinda sorta hydrating but not near as hydrating as masks I’ve tried from brands like My Beauty Diary. As I mentioned above I also disliked how poorly they fit. Out of the packagae you have to be very careful as they don’t have a plastic film (most Asian masks have a plastic film attached to them so you don’t tear them) so they are difficult to pull apart! You have to be very careful when unfolding the mask as it will tear if you aren’t careful. The eye holes were fine which is typically where poor fit occurs for me! The mask itself fits ok however, there is TON of excess material on the sides of the mask which kinda covers my ear and the hair at the side of my head. It’s just too wide a mask and doesn’t fit correctly on my face. Not good. This makes for a poor experience as you feel like the essence is not getting to the right areas of your face. I had more in my hair line than on my face I felt like.
After 20 minutes, I really didn’t feel my face looked any better. The formulas were lightly hydrating but aside from that I didn’t feel it improved my skin visibly!
I love Sephora for touching on the sheet mask market but at this price and this performance I think they are turned into more of a skip for me. For now, I’ll enjoy my Asian Sheet Masks and hope that at some point the US market will catch up to the Asian one!
