Too Faced Born This Way

Too Faced Born This Way Undetectable Medium-to-Full Coverage Foundation ($39) is a new second skin foundation that launched with the Too Faced Fall 2015 Collection. I actually didn’t buy it yet because I wanted to test it out in store (Too Faced Born This Way will be in stores on July 15th) and see which shade would suit me best.

But lucky enough, Too Faced included a generous three shade sample when I ordered the new Love Palette so I was able to not only find a good color match but also got a chance to test the foundation out for myself so here’s a few thoughts and a mini review of sorts.

Too Faced Born This Way3

Too Faced Born This Way is an oil-free foundation that provides undetectable, second-skin like coverage and according to the brand it leaves skin “naturally radiant”. Ok, they got me scared at naturally radiant as I do not like luminous or glow-y foundations but lucky enough there’s no shimmer, sparkle, or glow to be had in this formula.

The formula is apparently infused with coconut water to replenish the moisture levels in your skin as well as alpine rose which apparently improves elasticity and gives your complexion a brighter appearance. And last, but never least, Hyaluronic Acid which aids in returning moisture.

Obviously the big draw here is the fact that this has a natural finish so it doesn’t appear as if you’re wearing foundation at all and that is in fact exactly what it provides! The coverage is beautiful! It’s very natural yet still very pigmented so it’ll provide a good deal of coverage but still looks and feels like skin. It’s a funny thing about second-skin foundation as in many cases they run sheerer but Too Faced has successfully perfected a formula that provides a solid medium coverage along with a light, natural finish.

Too Faced Born This Way Swatches (Sand)

The texture is creamy yet runny and blends out easily and flawlessly. I love the texture as it feels quite hydrating as you apply but it does set to a satiny finish that doesn’t cling to drier areas. The sample card I received had three shades in Vanilla, Light Beige, and Sand. Light Beige was a fairly excellent pick for me, this was a light beige with neutral, golden undertones. I’m nitpicky about foundations as I have duller skin and I dislike bases that give me a cake face appearance or a base that makes my skin look lackluster. This made my skin look bright and natural. It wore for a solid five hours for me even outside on a warmer day.

So, all the ravings you have been hearing about Too Faced Born This Way are true. This is a fabulously formulated foundation that provides lightweight, breathable coverage with a very, very natural finish no matter how much you apply. The thing that sets it apart from other second skin foundations is the fact it backs up it’s promise of medium coverage without forsaking the lightweight, natural finish of the product! It’s a rarity you get both weightless and pigmented coverage.

I’d recommend checking it out.

I know I’ll be buying a full size.

Oh, I wanna try this stuff so bad…. And since you and I is skintwins, light beige would be mah shade too! It sounds perfect for me…. Love good coverage foundations – I will definitely be trying this on for size soon’s it hits the stores!! 😀 Thanks for the review, Muse!

my pleasure dear 🙂 I hope the lighter beige works for you! was great for me!

None to test Lana, I don’t wear primer when I’m testing the wear of foundations. But my primer of choice is Revlon Photoready.

I am light with neutral to pink undertones, and Nude is perfect for me. I got a sample of Vanilla which I think will work too. I love this foundation!

  • Camille

How does it wear in comparison to Armani Luminous Silk foundation?

  • Tracy

I’ve been waiting for your review on this foundation. Since the Sunday Riley was a total fail for me I’m still on the hunt for a lightweight base for the summer. The only question I have is does it dry down? I cannot stand base products that remain tacky.

    • Isabella Muse

no tack, nice smooth satiny finish and seems to provide quite a nice bit of moisture (that sounds weird I realize for a satin finish) to throughout the day but nothing shiny or greasy. No dewiness, no tackiness though! Sorry about the Sunday Riley 🙁 that’s sad as it is expensive $$$! I haven’t tried mind yet! Maybe I need to return EEP!

      • Tracy

Good to know. And sadly the Sunday Riley didn’t work for me but don’t let my review discourage testing it out for yourself. I was able to return mine so no money lost here.

        • Isabella Muse

I’ll give it a whirl see what I think keeping fingers crossed 😀

Great intro review I am so excited to see this in stores later in July I really want it I have super dry skin. I’m also very light with neutral to pink undertones so I am waiting to get color matched in store before I go ahead and get Porcelain, Vanilla or Ivory as I think the other ones may be too dark. I did have one question did you notice any oxidization with it? I once spent a ton of money on some Lancome foundation and was color matched and not even two hours later I was near orange.

    • Isabella Muse

NO! thank god! I hate that! It stayed very true to color on my skin 😀

      • Kelly Zollo

Really awesome! Thanks Muse I haven’t seen other bloggers mention anything about oxidization one way or another wonderful to hear about this staying true to color. So excited to try this now!

  • Zovesta

Sounds wonderful. =o Only five hours, though? What happened after that? =( When I go up to town, I normally need my face presentable for around nine hours, so this is kind of making me eh…

    • Kayla

Keep in mind she tested without a primer. You could possibly extend the lasting power by using either a primer or some sort of makeup setting spray.

  • Daliris

I ordered it at released… and have been wearing it to the ballpark! Ms. Muse review it’s spot on… It’s light weight, but yet it provides excellent coverage and lasting power. Love it!

  • Nicole

Ouch! Only 5 hour wear time? I have oily skin. Would you recommend for oilier types? Do you think the wear time would be even less?

  • Sarah

I bought this the day it launched and cannot say enough good things about it! I am a true makeup junkie with a particular obsession with foundations and was concerned this would be comparable to the Nars Weightless foundation (which I liked but didn’t love) but it is truly amazing! If you need a bit more coverage but don’t want that cakey/heavy look-this is your miracle product!

  • Ashley

Show a picture of you wearing the foundation! I want to see how awesome it is! Please and thank you.
The best long wear foundation I have came across is Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. It last all day. No complaints.

  • devon

thank you for the review!!! i was hoping you would be testing this out–i will definitely be picking this up when it comes out in store!!!

  • Fancie

I can’t wait for this to launch in stores! I’ve been seeing a lot of good reviews on this lately and I see why. The formula sounds great and I like the sound of the ingredients list too. I hope I can find a match
