CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum

CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum ($16.99) is a new cream serum formulated to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while reparing the skin’s barrier to reveal brighter, smoother skin with an formula that contains 1% retinol and a ceramide complex!

You might recall I reviewed the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream which I really loved. I’ve been using it for several months now and it proves an excellent hydrating night cream that makes my skin look so much less duller and smoother in the AM.

Of course, my mentality was I’d get even better resulted if I paired it up with the CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum too!

CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum is a little confusing as it is a serum but does have a thin, creamy consistency like that of a lightweight lotion! It absorbs fairly easily but provides absolutely no moisture or at least I didn’t feel it did on my drier skin.

This doesn’t contain 1% pure retinol but instead makes mention of an encapsulated retinol and a ceramide complex. I honestly don’t have a clue what that means but I do know retinol is very, very low on the ingredients list which means there’s likely a very little amount in the actual serum. Plus this serum doesn’t particularly behave the way a retinol does on skin as if you’ve used products with retinol in the past you’ll know what I mean.

On the upside it does contain a good mix of antioxidants plus it’s a lot less gentle than a retinol rich serum in my opinion! Although I have to admit I’ve used the entire tube and unlike the Renewing Night Cream which did produce visible brightening results I didn’t really feel like CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum produced the same effect. Now who knows, this could be preventing all sorts of aging in the future but as of now I really don’t feel much of a different in my skin’s texture or tone.

On that night it does combine a good deal of skin loving ingredients that should repair skin and hopefully keep skin looking great over time!

I personally wouldn’t repurchase it. I’m more of a visible results kinda girl and I had hopes this would gently exfoliate overnight and possibly brighten up my skin as well but no dice!

I was in ulta the other day and I didn’t know whether it was good or not so I didn’t end up purchasing it. Glad I didn’t after reading your post.

The night cream is lovely, Winnie but the serum I’m not really seeing any results unless they’ll be really, really long term results 🙂

You know, I was looking at this the other day and no where on the box does it say 1% retinol.

Thank you so much for that review. I was on the fence about these and debating purchasing it along with the eye cream during the sale. I think I will pass on these products this time.

If it is 1% retinol, it will be listed lower on the ingredients list, but I would trust CeraVe to actually have 1% if that is their claim. It sounds like encapsulated retinol could be a time release formulation and therefore less sensitizing. Vit. A products take a LONG time to work. I find their PM lotion and their night renewal cream have been extraordinary in helping my skin manage Vit. C in the morning and 0.05% retin-a at night. I use Elta MD but may try the CeraVe “am” sunscreen containing moisturizer as well.
