Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil ($8.99) is one of a few new drugstore cleansing oils headed our way this Summer/Fall 2015. Cleansing oils are sadly lacking at the drugstores here in the US so it sure is nice more and more brands launching their own budget friendly versions.

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil is a one step cleanser that removes makeup easily without leaving a greasy, oily residue behind.

Let’s take a look!

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil is marketed as being formulated with a blend of natural oils but unfortunately I see mineral oil as the first ingredient. I personally don’t have issues with mineral oils myself but many people do so this deserves mentioning. Many cleansing oils have a mineral oil base so this isn’t uncommon but if you’re look for something more natural Burt’s Bees new Cleansing Oil does not contain mineral oil.

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil is quite nice stuff but personally I’ll likely have to stick to using it in the Summer because I can see it isn’t a formula that will agree with my drier skin. After using it my skin felt a little tight so I know in the Winter when I’m even drier it likely won’t be a product I want to use.

On that note, I will say, I liked the formula. It’s a nice thick cleansing oil that emulsifies quickly and breaks down makeup easily! Simply apply it on a dry face full of makeup, massage in, add a little water to break it down (it’ll go milky), and now rinse! Done! It removes makeup quickly and easily. Those who never tried a cleansing oil are likely a little wary of the formula as they fear it’ll make their skin oily or shiny but it rinses clean away without leaving behind a film or an oily residue. It’s ideal for all skin types including oily ones!

This does have a sour apple candy like fragrance or at least that’s what I felt it smelled like. It isn’t too strong but it is worth mentioning for those sensitive to fragrance in their skincare.

As I mentioned above it doesn’t quite work out well for me because it left me a bit tight after use. Right now, in the Summer, it should be fine but come Winter it might be one I avoid so just a warning for those dry skinned girls and guys out there.

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil is available now at Ulta.com and should be popping into drugstores soon!

Hi Muse! Have you had any problems with the packaging? I’ve had issues with both the Garnier and Burt’s Bee’s face oil bottles leaking at the pump and making a greasy mess everywhere. How’s the bottle on this one?

Mori, I gotta say I hear the Garnier rant often but it never happened to me! My bottles have always been a ok! Likewise with this one and the Burt’s!

Spot on review Muse!! This oil left me a tiny bit tight as well. I have combo/oily skin that’s prone to dehydration so I can’t use this everyday. But it’s not that bad, and easily took off all of my mascara without leaving an oily residue.

Jay, glad to hear I wasn’t imaging that. It’s ok now for me but come Winter it won’t be a good idea for me to use! Good oil, just sad about the tightness! The burt’s bees proved better for me!

Thanks for this review Muse! I’ve had my eye on this one but I think I’m going to pass on it this time. Mineral oil, fragrance, and skin feeling tight are three strikes against it so it’s out. I’m definitely going to recommend to oily-skinned friends though.

I was so excited to find this!! But I’m with you– it leaves my skin a little too tight feeling and I have combo/normal skin! My favorite oil so far has been Laura Mercier’s… smells amazing and leaves my skin so soft. Mmmmm… I need some more, lol!

Bummer about it leaving skin feeling tight. I think I’ll stick with the Garnier oil. Aside from the pump and the fragrance, which lessens after the first few days, I’ve been really pleased with how effective the Garnier oil has been for me and the price is right, too.

I really wish this was fragrance free, i think the scent is quite awful, and I’m normally not sensitive to fragrances. I got a little in my mouth while cleansing (it happens) and it tasted SO horrible! This honestly makes me not want to use it even though it performs great. Ugh.

Muse, I LOVE this stuff! I just started using it a week ago, twice a day. I double-cleanse. This first then Cetaphil and my adult acne-prone skin has been looking much better in just a short week’s time already! I can’t wait to see how much better it gets after using this even longer. I have combo/oily skin and this doesn’t cause any issues for me at all. My skin feels very soft after using, and I personally love the smell. I am sensitive to fragrances (migraine sufferer) but this doesn’t bother me at all as the scent goes away very quickly.
