Sephora Subscription Box Called “Play” Arrives Soon!

sephora play box

WWD reports that Sephora Subscription Box called “Play” will be arriving soon! The new Sephora Beauty Subscription will set you back $10 a month and includes samples, plus a Spotify playlist, as well as Sephora Play Pass coupons for in store interaction like one on one tutorials to use the products that came in your box! The boxes will have application tips and mobile codes that can be scanned in store to access aditional content. Plus subscription box themed in store events called Play! Dates will come along with your membership!

Apparently, Sephora Play won’t be for everyone just yet and will only roll out in Boston, Columbus, and Cincinnati this September/Fall 2015 and later on it will launch in other cities but likely not until 2016. What not New York!? Not LA?

Box subscriptions include products from Sephora’s own line as well beauty, makeup, skincare, and perfume samples from brands like Marc Jacobs, Ole Henricksen, Bumble and Bumble, and many more. Sephora is reported as including some extra smaller fragrance samples with your box as well!

So what you think of a Sephora Subscription Beauty Box?

If it hits your city will you be indulging?

I’m honestly not a subscription beauty box type of gal but I might be convinced to try it out for a few months!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I would totally sign up in the fall of my city was one of them but I hope they expand sooner then later .

      I found this:
“The first box, Uncover the Essentials, offers five items: Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion lip gloss in Peony, Marc Jacobs Beauty Highlighter eyeliner in Blacquer, Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Face Crème, Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil and Glamglow Supercleanse facial cleanser.”

Wow, that’s an awesome deal for $10. I hppe the future boxes are good deals too

I’d be on board too, but Sacramento- Don’t see that happening until 2021!
    😉

Oh man, I’ve been waiting for a Sephora subscription box forever. But if they are doing it by city I’m pretty sure Alaska is at the bottom of the list. 🙁

  • Dana Morin

I would totally indulge!! I love to try products before I buy.

  • Marti

I would sign up in a second. However, I live in Alaska. Chances are not good that they roll this out in my area 🙁

I’m not a subscription box girl either but I think this is lame regardless. I’m old school – I come from the time when samples were FREE. Like GWP’s, etc. I still don’t understand Sephora’s points-for-samples model. Samples are FREE to try and get you to buy the product! Paying for monthly samples that I may or may not want to use just doesn’t make sense to me. I’d be stuck with a whole bunch of stuff I don’t use. At least with GWP’s I keep the stuff I do use and give away what I don’t and it was free with my purchase and everyone is happy LOL. And a Spotify playlist? Who cares?

It’s likely they chose those cities as Columbus is a common test market and they’re all shipping hubs. I’m just happy to be in Columbus. Can’t wait to try it out!

I LOVE subscription boxes!!!!!!! I already get at least 5, so I will absolutely get Sephora’s. I have suggested this to them on many occasions, who better than Sephora to do a box after all. As a VIB Rogue, I called the our service line immediately because I also live in LA. First I’ll tell you, you nearly scooped the Rogue concierge staff 🙂 They only found out a few hours before. They told me in the beginning it will be invitation only for the subscription service. The gal I talked to had no other information.

Why do I have the feeling this is going to have lots and lots AND LOTS of Sephora house brand in it?

I honestly don’t get the whole subscription box craze. It would have made more sense 20 or 25 years ago when there was no such thing as internet shopping and if you lived in a small town, high end brands we’re completely beyond your reach.

Weird it’s a subscription box but only available in specific cities. If they were test marketing, it would make more sense to first allow VIB Rouge, then open it up to the BI’s.

Interesting! From what I remember of my marketing textbooks, researchers think Ohio is like the deal market research location because there’s the most consistent population mix of demographics. I’ve never been to Ohio long enough to know if this is true, that that’s where a lot of companies/brands to market research that I’ve read up on!

I don’t really get the point of Play though. Are they trying to encourage more in-store purchases? Like, do people tend to buy more once they’re inside a store and touching the products? Meh. I don’t know. It doesn’t appeal to me at all!

I got over beauty boxes pretty quickly but this is Sephora! I will definitely try it when it comes to Chicago.

  • Alyssa

Not surprised about Columbus being one of them, I live here and we’re honestly a test market for everyone. Defiantly going to be signing up for this though!

NYC and LA totally get everything so I commend them for branching out. However, choosing two Ohio cities kind of stinks. Hopefully some bloggers are able to get a hold of it and we can see what we might be getting into 😀

This is totally something I will be subscribing to if its available to me. I’m already subscribed to boxycharm, which I madly adore, and I feel like this is the only other monthly beauty box that I will need.

I too am very excited about this, but my hubby said it’s gonna turn out like getting 4~5 of those 100pt freebies I get every now and then, which doesn’t sound nearly as exciting if I have to pay $10…

By the way, I am still waiting for the Le Metier de Beaute subscription box. Seriously I haven’t heard from them since I made the purchase.. Have you heard anything from them?

    • Isabella Muse

I think the first one ships in September or October Kami! You might wanna call them and ask! Don’t quote me 🙂

After the crap they pulled today, they can take every single one of their boxes and shove ’em. I’m so done with this company. They’re far from the only cosmetics store and I’ve yet to be impressed with any of the so-called ‘perks’ I get for spending as much as I do.
All I have to say is, “Bye, Felicia!”
