Lush Don’t Look At Me Fresh Face Mask Review

Lush Don't Look At Me Fresh Face Mask3

Lush Don’t Look At Me Fresh Face Mask is a new face mask you can pick up at your local Lush Cosmetics Boutique should the mood strike you to walk around with blue goo all over your face or if you’re in need of brightening up your tired, dull skin.

I polished off the last of my Lush Don’t Look At Me last night while watching my beloved Antiques Roadshow. Truly there’s nothing like a Monday night spent sitting on the couch watching PBS with blue crap on your face. It’s an experience let me tell you.

I should probably say I like Lush Fresh Face Masks a lot and I even love their regular facial masks like Mask of Magnaminty but I should also say I never really feel like they do much aside from make me feel like a horror show walking around with them on.

Lush Don’t Look At Me Fresh Face Mask could potentially be the exception to this rule.

Don’t Look At Me is a vivid blue mask that becomes even bluer to the point you might just glow in the dark as it dries down. It contains a heaping dose of lemon juice, Kaolin clay, ground rice, and murumuru butter. I have drier but not sensitive skin so the lemon juice in this mask didn’t irritate me in the least but I felt tight and a bit dehydrated after each use so just a heads up this isn’t the most moisturizing facial mask experience around even with the murumuru butter in place. This is one reason I love but but I have to say the visible brightening effect can’t be beat.

Lemon juice is quite good at diminishing the appearance of scars, age spots, and darkness and also acts to exfoliate skin. However, it can be too strong for some skin types so beware. Also it’s an ingredient that “gradually” works so imagine my surprise how visibly brighter my skin looked after using this the first time. I was kinda shocked as my skin looked quite bright after use. But you could potentially blame that on the exfoliating rice that’s in this mask as well but more on that in a bit.

So how’s it work, what’s it do, etc…etc..!?

You want to take a generous amount of the mask and smear it all over your face and sit for 10 minutes with it on. It’s actual a bit of a hybrid formula in the fact it acts as a mask and a scrub all in one. As you sit and wait around with it on your mask it dries down and becomes bluer and bluer and bluer! It also tightens slightly.

Now head to the sink to rinse! I take a small bit of water to break the mask up but I don’t completely rinse it off at first since as I mentioned it acts as a scrub. It has tiny ground rice bits in it which give you a nice deep exfoliation as you massage gently. The scent reminds me of a margarita or Lush Ocean Salt or Lush Big Shampoo. It’s kinda a tart lemony-lime fragrance that’s quite pleasant and fresh smelling. It almost reminds me of a more refined version of Lush Ocean Sault. Just be careful if you have sensitive skin as the combination of the lemon juice plus the grains could make your face red or irritated as you scrub.

It really did an excellent job visibly brightening my skin and also removing dead skin cells for a smoother complexion. One of the things I noticed most was the fact my moisturizer absorbed so much easier after I used this mask and also as I said I almost instantly noticed how much brighter my skin looked.

However, it is a bit rough on my skin as it seems to suck moisture out so I’m left feeling quite tight after use so I highly recommend slathering up with plenty of moisture after use. Or you can follow up with your favorite hydrating sheet mask. It might seem overkill but that’s what I do!

One other thing I do hate about these masks is the expiration date. They tend to expire within 9 or so days after a purchase. My rec? Don’t be stingy when you use them! Slather them on! Be generous! I wish they lasted at least a month or two as I feel pressed to use the mask up quickly before it expires.

I like Lush Don’t Look At Me Fresh Face Mask but I wish it had a bit more moisture to even out the store. I will say it’s one of the few Lush Fresh Face Masks that actually worked for me as typically I purchase them but don’t see any major changes but with this you get visible results right away.

Lush Don’t Look At Me Fresh Face Mask is available now at Lush locations (not sold online due to the freshness)>

Muse! Thank you for your review ! Do you think it would be a great pick for my acting up/oily/dull skin ? I’m on the fence about Lush and their 35 minutes shelf life…

    • Isabella Muse

mmm acting up how Dominique? Blemishes? acne? You should be fine oily/dull but I worry the lemon juice might be a little much for acne/blemishes…! haha I know! I agree! They expire far too quickly. And you’re very welcome for the review <3!

Hi Muse! Lush says that they expire about 3 weeks from the time you purchase the, regardless of what the sticker says. Still annoying that they expire so quickly, but I’m happy they’re so fresh!

As a side note… one time I left a mask in the back of my fridge for sixth months. Needless to say, I wasn’t cleaning that one out to trade the empty pot in for a free mask…

    • Isabella Muse

Mmm no kidding. three weeks is better than nine days 😀 oh noooooo! haha! was it growing hair?!

  • Andi

It’s like groceries/fresh food! I just pop mine in the freezer before the expiration date if I know I can’t get to all of it in time. They thaw just fine.

Hey, how often would you say to put this mask on? I asked at lush and the lady told me I can put it on everyday?

    • Isabella Muse

Absolutely not everyday Milton. Once a week is plenty. Using it daily you’ll strip your skin!

Hi Muse, I just recently purchased this mask last night. Along with the Mask of magnanimity and 2 cleanser. I stocked up as I don’t like pay 3.95 for delivery every month. Would fre ash face mask and cleanser keep if I put them in the fridge for about a month? Thank you.

Hi Steff! I’ve used a face month a few days after expiration date but not an entire month! At that point it could be growing mold or bacteria def a yuck factor for your face. Even if it is in the fridge!
