The Bare Minerals The Soft & Smoky Ready Eyeshadow 8.0 Palette is a new eight pan eyeshadow palette that launched for Holiday 2015 recently on QVC for $36. As you know I’m a huge fan of the Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow 8.0 Palettes and I’m always looking to add to my little collection of these. It seems that QVC gets the newest and latest ones first so when I noticed the Bare Minerals The Soft & Smoky Ready Eyeshadow 8.0 Palette pop up on their site I instantly purchased event though at the time there wasn’t an image available (See? That’s how I love these! I didn’t even need to see it, to purchase it!).

Bare Minerals The Soft & Smoky

Bare Minerals The Soft & Smoky Ready Eyeshadow 8.0 Palette includes:

  • Celebrate (yellow cream)
  • In the Buff (light golden-peach)
  • Heavenly Halo (silver)
  • Midnight Luminance (gunsmoke)
  • A-ha (brown sugar)
  • True Chocolate (soft matte brown)
  • Eureka (metallic moss)
  • Mysterious Sky (midnight smoke)

Bare Minerals went a little different with their packaging on this as it comes housed in a decorative plastic compact versus the mirrored ones they have used in the past. This packaging is iffy because you’re either going to love it or hate ot. Personally I liked it a lot because as pretty as the old compacts are they are a magnet for fingerprints plus the rubberized ones aren’t any better as they attract grime, dirt, makeup, etc…and get messy very quickly. This new plastic compact has a pretty Fall leaf (there’s even a little owl peeking at you in the inner box flap which I thought was a very cute touch) design against a brassy gold back drop.

Like most 8.0 Ready Eyeshadow Palette this contains repromoted and new shades. I think that’s the thing I dislike about 8.0 Palettes, the fact they never have all new shades. The new shades are Heavenly Halo, Midnight Luminance, True Chocolate, and Mysterious Sky with Celebrate, In the Buff, A-Ha, and Eureka being available in 2.0 and 8.0 in the past. So half of the palette is made up of repromoted shades sadly but I kinda sorta don’t mind much on some level since I like having the shades all in one place for travel.

I do think the name of this palette could potentially be misleading depending how you look at it. When I purchased it there was no promo image available so I got it sight unseen. What I was expecting to get was a selection of grays, taupes, and perhaps some sort of softer black shades to create a smoky look. Upon opening it I was presented with, mmm, a bit of a mismatch of shades. This contains some softer shades of beige, cream, peach, and browns which all went well together but there are also pops green, moss, and smoky blue. It’s an interesting pair up of colors I guess but not my idea of smoky and soft really.

You get silky matte shades here as well as soft, velvety satin shades. All of the colors perform outstandingly which I’m sure is no surprise as Bare Minerals does some excellently formulated pressed eyeshadows. The mattes are soft and silky and apply beautifully without being dry or dense. The satins are soft and velvety with a buttery texture that blends oh so easily onto lids. All of the shades have excellent pigmentation.

Bare Minerals includes an easy eye diagram for color placement on your eyes to create three separate looks using the palette. You also get a dual ended small eyeshadow brush which is actually quite handy if you’re traveling with the palette!

I think my only issue with this palette is the shades are a bit mismatched in this palette and they aren’t an ideal, traditional soft, smoky shade selections. Aside from this, I’d say the palette has a very nice range of wearable shades that are formulated beautifully so if you’re an Ready Eyeshadow 8.0 fan, you’ll likely love this one!

Very pretty. Was hoping to see you pop some of that green or blue on. People with brown eyes can wear just about any color it seems and it looks great. Definitely considering this one, in spite of the mix of old and new.

Heh heh, I went right over to QVC to order as soon as I saw your review. You really are my litmus test for good products! 🙂 Umm, I may have also put Select Reserve (glee, true, and warmth in Ready formula) into my cart too–don’t judge me. -_-

Aw thanks Agona! FLATTERED! And I’d never judge! GO FOR IT 🙂 haha!

The midnight Luminance color is gorgeous, although it does look darker in the swatch than in the pan. I think I might need to get this palette for that shade alone 😉

Well I just love this palette – repromotes and all. And I am so glad that it didn’t have a rich black matte! I have stacks of those from other palettes.
So I really love the greens and the smoky blue. Adore the peach and lighter shades. Yep this is mine. Now I just have to figure out how to get this gem to Australia. QVC has it – but does not ship to Aus. I am waiting for Beauty bay and Nordstrom to get it, so I can have it in time for a Christmas present. Just love the bareMinerals Ready formula too.

Here in the U.S. QVC often makes exclusives that don’t make it to other stores. This could be possible with this palette as they have had several exclusive 8.0 palettes in the past. However, some of the exclusive palettes have ended up in bareMinerals outlet stores within months to a year. To those that can’t find it or aren’t able to get it, hope you end up finding a way.
