About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. The promo code already is working- if you want something, you best be quick! It went up around 11:45 AM PST.

  • Evelyn

It doesn’t work for rouge Which is actually quite unfair considering as rouge we spend quite a lot and should have the opportunity to extend our shopping experience with the discount.

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t think it is unfair at all. They are very generous to even extend the discount as 20% off higher end brands with no exclusions is pretty amazing. We had last week as Rouge members to enjoy the discount and this week VIBs get their shot. It makes sense to me. I like shopping at Sephora and I want to see them do well. Too many discounts/returns/etc leads to the downfall of a store. I want Sephora to be around a very long time 🙂 So I’m happy with the 20% I got last week! To all the VIBs your turn to have fun now! Enjoy!

      • melanie

Totally agree! Plus if I remember right for VIB Rouge I also received a $25 gift card in December. I hope that is the case this year to. Few more items I would like to get. Hey love the new website design 🙂

        • Isabella Muse

That is correct! We did get those extra cards in December! Plus sometimes towards Spring they do 15% off again I believe. Aw thanks Melanie! Few quirks to work out let me know if you have issues!

      • Mo

I agree with you Muse. Here is my rant:

Wow! Some people can be extremely negative. I see it most with Sephora and Bath and Body Works “customers”. Some people expect to get so many perks and discounts just for shopping at a store and get super angry when things don’t go their way. How do those people expect for business to stay alive when that business is giving away and discounting their products so much? I work at a high end store, and some people get belligerent and can’t process the idea that we don’t give out coupons. Yet, somehow, the company has been around for over 100 years, and is constantly expanding and making huge profits! What happened to just shopping? It’s so annoying how some people always want a discount or something for free. Look at Sephora’s Facebook page during a sale, promotion, ect. People get rabid! Just because I am Rouge, its merely because of my shopping that I became one. I didn’t try to reach that status for the “perks”. I could honestly care less, and I never take rewards programs seriously. I personally think rewards programs are just fluff. However, some people who are Rouge seem to feel very entitled. The way Sephora advertises becoming Rouge is definitely part of the problem, and I foresee changes to the program in the future. Spending $1000 in a store is a lot for a lot of people. I just don’t understand why people always need something for free or a discount!

Also, this is just my mere, little opinion. Sorry if it is offensive.

        • Mo

          The complaining has already begun:

“I can’t get any other promos due to using my discount. Doesn’t make me feel like a VIB…”

Ummm, do people realize they are buying prestige merchandise? How much free things and discounts do some people expect?

        • Isabella Muse

Hey Mo, I’m just happy I even got the 20% off 🙂 so yeah, I’m cool with that haha! Rant away, always good to hear everyone’s opinion on the topic!!!!!! 🙂

      • Benni

I do like that the 20% had no exclusions, but at the same time, I don’t think Rouges complaining is unjustified, either. Rouges are supposed to get the first shot at items with the sale, but there have been some new releases made available between the Rouge sale and the VIB sale. Someone else also mentioned here that Sephora advertises Rouge as having benefits inclusive of those of VIBs, so I think that’s a fair point, too.

        • Kimberly

That’s my only complaint about Rouge’s not being able to use the code again is the new product releases, trust me I stalk nail polish weekly…ok many times daily but limit my orders until I find a few things. Plus there are a couple fragrance sets I’m lemming over…but not going to spend almost $50 on minis when I might only like 1 or 2 (bad bad luck when I order any fragrances online).

        • Andi

          THIS.

It isn’t being overly negative or an entitlement complex. It’s that Sephora specifically calls the tier “**VIB** Rouge” and says we enjoy “all the amazing benefits of Beauty Insider & VIB tiers.” To say that we aren’t VIB is incorrect. The Rouge sale was also marketed as “First Access” and I didn’t see any indication that we would be disqualified from participating in the VIB sales per usual.

          • Andi

I also saw a comment from a girl on Twitter saying she achieved Rouge this week between sales and now she doesn’t even get to participate in either because VIB20 doesn’t work for her.

          • Isabella Muse

I imagine if she calls Sephora to place the order they would honor the 20% off.

      • Evelyn

I completely agree it is generous that we receive a discount at all and of course I would want them to remain in business for years to come. I suppose my bigger issue is that as a rouge member, wee early in the morning today I received an email from Sephora ‘reminding’ me that the sale was beginning today along with a code, however the code they emailed (which is associated with my rouge account) did not work. So basically they reached out to me to with a discount code they are not allowing me to use.
All in all I am very happy with the discount I was able to get this past weekend, was just a bit bummed when the code didn’t work for me this morning.

  • Reham

Congrats sweety for new appearance of your page I love the new one so much it is so feminine ,elegant and stylesh love it

  • Elizabeth S.

Do you have any info around those of us that aren’t even VIBs? I’m just a beauty insider for the first time ever! Tried to scale down my spending this year and now I’m super bummed.

  • Sarah

Eeek! My cart has been full of goodies for weeks now and luckily only one item has sold out. I’m trying to decide if I should purchase all of my ‘loves’ with my coupon now or if I should wait on one or two….Muse do you know if we’ll be getting those $25/$20 off coupons again toward the end of the month? That’d make the glamglow mask a better deal than my current 20% off….

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t know Sarah! Wish I did. I wanna say yes but you never know. On that note you might want to get the mini glamglows ($19 each) if this is your first try with them. With the 20% off it’s a nice deal kinda sorta. I got three of them this way so I could try them.

      • Sarah

Thanks Muse! I have a couple of the Glamglows already….I wanted to get one as a Xmas gift for my sister-in-law…I let her try my supermud and she was in love. But the minis are a good idea too!!

        • Isabella Muse

my pleasure! aw I totally understand. I hope it came back into stock for you!?

  • Cass S

“Must be VIB member to redeem.”

My issue as a VIB Rouge is that on http://www.sephora.com/rouge it CLEARLY STATES as my benefits are “ALL BEAUTY INSIDER BENEFITS” and “ALL VIB BENEFITS” clearly, we are not getting all the VIB benefits. As someone with a year to date spending of over $6,500 (yes, i know..ugh..and I know that I’m not the highest spender out there, but still!), I could qualify as a VIB-R and a VIB separately if it wasn’t for the terms and conditions… so I personally feel that I’m being punished by not being able to benefit from both sales. I feel as if I should be able to qualify for EVERY sale and promotion that Sephora has, rather than being excluded simply because I spend “too much”. I don’t think it’s too much for the Rouge members to have access to both weekends as the benefits clearly state that we are supposed to have all our exclusive benefits AND all of the VIB benefits AND all the BI benefits.

  • Sally G.

I was VIB and waiting for the sale, but the Sunday Riley set I had my eye on sold out online in a flash and most of the stores around me had sold out too, so I picked one up full price at literally the last available location last night. It was just enough $ to tip me over into the Rouge level so the sale code wouldn’t work today

I called Sephora and (after half an hour on hold) they let me place a one-time order over the phone with the 20% off. The customer service rep was super sweet about it! So if you missed the Rouge sale but have become Rouge since then, give them a call

  • Erin

I think it is unfair that products may not be released or may be out of stock during the VIB R sale period and then available during the VIB sale and vice versa.
For example, I don’t believe the Givenchy: The Essentials To Enhance Your Eyes Clutch Set was yet released during the sale when I shopped last week 🙁
I understand that both VIB and VIB R shopping at the same time has caused site crashes in the past. However, I do feel that Sephora should have one 20% sale period in November for all Beauty Insiders. I mean, don’t UD and Too Faced have FF sales all the time open to all…..

  • Carolyn2

Hey – I had to go to the mall tonight to return some stuff to Sephora and the gals there told me that you can still get the 20% discount IN STORE if you are VIB Rouge!! The code will NOT work online but they will do it in store.

Check though – when I checked out (yes, I bought a couple more things) another cashier didn’t realized that Rouge could get the 20% off through Monday and rang me up full price and processed the transaction. They were going to do an adjustment but could’t right away so I came back later and they were able to process it (she gave me a gift card for the $11 difference which I used toward a Dior lipstick, sigh… like I NEED MORE LIPSTICK!) 😉

Love the new web design, Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

Awesome of them! Thanks for the tip Carolyn 🙂 and thank you glad you’re liking the new site!

  • Sharon

I’m also a Rouge and there was one item I wanted during the sale that was out of stock during our weekend. I checked all 4 days and it was always out of stock. I even emailed them and was told the item would not be in stock ever at Sephora. Then I saw it available on the website yesterday and wanted to order it, but since I am not a VIB, I didn’t “qualify”. After 30 minutes on hold I was able to order the item and receive the discount as a one time exception – not sure if it was because of the email issue (wrong info) or if after reviewing my account and how much I spent so far this year, she gave it to me. I asked her why they changed the policy and I was told it was because they were afraid the website would go down from all the traffic. I don’t recall that happening in the last few years. New items on my wishlist were added between the 2 sales, and I always used the VIB period to pick up gifts for friends. I have not been very happy with the service I receive in store either – during the Rouge sale last week I had to remind the cashier I got a discount (she said it was not last weekend) and beg for the “free” bag. I’m still mad at them about the whole rewards system – I have over 4500 points in my account and the 100-500 point samples are so not worth it…so I just keep accumulating more. I did try to use them during the Epic rewards fiasco, but we all know how that went.

    • Isabella Muse

Last year the website went down a lot. They had a virtual waiting line for users to shop. You had to get in line and the site would alert you when you could shop. It was a huge mess! It would probably be better just to update the site for the sale so the servers won’t go down but instead they broke up the sales between the two memberships. I’m glad at least you got the 20% off!

  • Carolyn2

Confession: I had to fight myself not to go back to the mall to get more stuff or ask my sister to order stuff on my behalf. I really had a great VIB experience, though. Only a couple of things sold out online – but I was able to find it in store. The only thing I wish I tried to get was a Burberry something but meh, next time 🙂 I figure I have a couple of months to plan the April sale. 🙂

There’s a couple of things I wanted to try from the Sephora line – the concealer gel serum … but I’m going to Disneyland in a couple of days and there’s a Sephora right outside our hotel so it’ll give me an excuse to go buy something there.

    • Isabella Muse

lol! You addict! 🙂 You can always grab burberry when Nordstrom is price matching 🙂 What should are you in the gel serum?
