Tarte Lips for Dazes Lipsurgence Gift Set

The Tarte Lips for Daze Lipsurgence Set is a new, limited edition Tarte Holiday 2015 Gift Set that comes with five, full size Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tints in a variety of shades and finishes.

I think one of my favorite things about the Tarte Holiday Collections would be their Lipsurgence Gift Sets. Lipsurgences are $24 each and this set contains FIVE full sized ones for $34 so it really is a super value. I also happen to be a huge fan of chubby lip balm sticks so although I have millions already, I can’t resist adding to my stash.

These come in two differently designed packaging with toppers that are either the regular gold or a black and gold chevron print. I was actually a little disappointed with this set as many of the shades in this set didn’t quite prove up to the Lipsurgence formula I know and love. I also had breakage with three of the shades. Not sure what happened but three of them just snapped off at the base, this could be a mass problem or it could be isolated to my set but it is worth mentioning.

One of my first issues with this set would be the color selection. In theory, they sound lovely and they even look lovely but many didn’t quite look right on my skin tone. Secondly, I really disliked how crazy dense and dry the mattes were. The matte Lipsurgence formula isn’t my favorite in the family of finishes they have available in this formula but it isn’t nearly as bad as I experience in this set. They just ran really, really dry and they dragged across my lips in an awful way during application.

I had no problems with Glaze and Praise both of which almost applied like one of the Lipsurgence Cremes in my humblest. These both had a beautifully creamy consistency that glides on lips perfectly. They provided light moisture and excellent color pay off.

Sadly, this isn’t a go for me due to the mattes which dominate the set. If they included more of the regular formula I’d likely Muse Approved it as it truly is an excellent value but the mattes really disappointed me formula wise so just keep that in mind when shopping this set.

The Tarte Lips for Daze Lipsurgence Set is available now at Sephora and Sephora.com.

I got 2 sets of these. One for me and one to gift. The first time I got it one of the matte ones literally just fell out. Sephora sent me another one and not after too long with the same color it fell right out. I was like WTH

    • Isabella Muse

ok good, sorry that happened but good that I wasn’t alone! I thought it was a fluke! that just sucks 🙁 I didn’t like these mattes at all! very drying and draggy and yes they broke it just as easily as yours! sadness!

I just looked at it and the one that broke twice at the base and just fell out was Haze. I was going to call sephora and return it again but I was like they are going to think Im nuts. I mean is it that dry that it just breaks off? I was sooooo upset and pissed off all at the same time. Total sadness.

I have this set, too. All five have broken or popped out for me. The mattes did it first, and then later on the other two did it. I agree the mattes are more dry, and tug. I don’t mind it so much but I couldn’t help think that was what led to the breakage problem!
I’m more like an NC15 to 20 complexion and the colors all worked on me really well. I’m just bummed about the breakage. I’ve got way cheaper lip crayons that have never let me down.
(They actually remind me, texture-wise and breakage-wise, of the Wet n Wild Fergie Velvet Matte lip color.)

Wow! I thought it was a fluke! I don’t understand it. The mattes aren’t my fav of the finishes but they have never been this bad 🙁 sadness!

I had one break on me too, not thrilled with this set either and I usually love Tarte

Glad I’m not alone, I was really sad that it wasn’t good this year!

I love LipSurgence pencils for their ease of use. Most of the time it is the only thing I will apply to my lips (lip balm under mattes). I have used Craze, Emblaze, Glaze and Praise several times in the past week and have not had a problem. I’m not sure if it is my computer, however from the photos above I see some whiteness especially on Craze and Haze and they all look pretty dry. Perhaps they had a mass bad or old batch. If so, it’s too bad they didn’t catch it and recall.

    • Isabella Muse

Erin, happy to hear a success story with these. Could be a fluke and I got a bad batch 🙁 Darn shame as I do so adore Lipsurgences!

  • Heidi

For so many people to have had issues with it, they should give us all a nice 25 percent discount or a free Lipsurgence in recompense!

Last year I bought the minis set of LipSurgence glosses and pencils. A few months went by and I noticed the same white patches on the pencils. It kinda grosses me out because I immediately thought of mold or old product. The smell was regular, but I wish Tarte would address those white patches, which are visible in your pics. I’m glad you noticed that this set isn’t quite hitting the mark, although I love the chevron theme.

    • Isabella Muse

mm I wouldn’t say mold but sometimes if the product has condensation on it due to high temps it can “sweat” and as it dries it’ll get that white chalkiness around it. It def is kinda gross though! Yeah, it actually missed the mark majorly for me and that’s kinda sad 🙁

Hi! I don’t know if you’ll answer, but do you know if there’s a dupe for the tone Craze? The formula isn’t bad on me and the color matches my skin… let me know if you know hehe
