Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio Review & Swatches
Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio ($12.95) are a new trio of duo kohl kajal eyeliners and liquid eyeliner. Yup, you read that right! These are a duo that have a twist off tube of liquid eyeliner located below the kajal eyeliner. Nifty right?
Well, let me tell you, you can place Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio on my list of “makeup I had fun with” recently. Sometimes makeup becomes more of a job for me versus the hobby I love so much. I’m not makeup artist, I’m no an expert at application, I’m not a guru of any kind but I love makeup and I have fun with it but sometimes with Musings of a Muse it becomes less fun and more work. Sometimes I forget to enjoy myself but I had a blast with these new liners.
Let me tell you about it.
I should start this review by saying I’m not a huge, huge fan of Physicians Formula Kajla Eyeliners. Some folks love ’em as hey, you get three shades in one set. Nice right? But I find them a bit dry and not as pigmented as I would like.
Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio did change my mind.
These are freaking fun.
They aren’t new by any means since Physicians Formula has done a variety of different sets like it in the past. They are however, what I like to call, reinvented. Instead of a single kajal you’re actually getting three kajal eyeliners PLUS three liquid eyeliners. I know, you must be thinking, “But Muse, you hate liquid eyeliner!” I do, well, I don’t hate it. I’m just not very good applying it. However, aside from the black shade two of these are actually glitter eyeliners which I’m totally an expert at using (Because you know shimmer and stuff!). Each Kohl Kajal Pencil has an attached tube of sparkly liquid liner.
You get a Bronze, Gold, and Black shade selection in this set. The kajal pencils are shimmery but not over the top shimmer. They have little specks of shimmer and to be honest, I barely noticed it at all in the black shade. The real shimmer comes from the eyeliner portion of this duo. Both gold and bronze are pretty sparkly laying eyeliners where as black didn’t have much shimmer at all (there’s a potential reason for that which I’ll describe below).
The kajal liners aren’t terribly creamy but they are creamy enough to apply without tugging or dragging. They have a smooth, soft glide across my lash line and I had no issues with having to go back and reline (that’s a pet peeve of mine!). I had no issues with the kajal smearing or smudging on my drier eyes and it wore all day and easily removed at the end of the night. The sparkle liners were easy to work with as well and provided a pretty glittery layer of color on either my lashes or lash line. The black, as I said, doesn’t have shimmer and it is pretty wet so you might struggle slightly with this shade if you aren’t an expert at application. The brush on the liquid liners is fairly thin so it might be difficult to get a good straight line with the black shade. The shimmer shades were fine though.
The general idea is the use all the shades in a single look. They left shimmer out of the black, in my opinion, because they want you to be able to comfortably use it on your waterline. As per their suggestion apply the black on your upper and lower lash line, use the bronze on your upper lash line, and the gold on your lower. That’s exactly what I did in my look below and I loved the results! It’s kinda a cute, sparkly little eyeliner look plus you can create it without a ton of steps or no know. I used the bronze kajal first and applied the sparkly bronze liner on top likewise for the gold on my lower lash but I didn’t add as much of the sparkly eyeliner on my lower lash line as it might have been overkill!
This is a nice way to get a bit of sparkle injected into your look without over doing it. It makes for a nice party or evening look!
I had fun with these and I can see myself using them quite often. They might not be a fab pick for shimmer haters but I liked them a lot as I think they make wearing shimmer easy without over doing it.
