Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer

You prime before makeup right? So why not prime before applying a mask! That’s the idea behind the new Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer ($22)! This preps and primes not prior to makeup application but prior to apply a facial mask.

Interesting right?

Apparently the formula will optimize your mask that follows by allowing it to spread more easily and also by hydrating skin and making it smoother for your mask to absorb more easily.

So prepping prior to mask is totally a thing now courtesy the new Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer!

Count me curious!

Priming before a mask?! Come on, Origins…. you’re really getting desperate to sell products. That’s just silly – it makes far more sense to put “marine algae complex” on AFTER using a mask so that it actually stays on the skin long enough to do something, assuming it does anything at all.

Is it just me, or is there a plethora of silly items being introduced recently?

lol! I have to admit I was curious enough to pop it into my cart, still seeing if I’m going to hit the submit button!

I saw this on Sephora’s website while I was browsing. I’m wondering if it will work well with clay masks that tend to dry out the skin a little. Also, on Sephora’s website it says that it’s “great for use with every type of mask EXCEPT peel-off…”

whoa holy read that wrong batman thanks TT ;-D I agree, I like herbivore’s Pink Mask but it is drying wonder if this would help!

It works amazingly with clay masks! Clay masks dry on your skin but using the Maskimizer not only helps spread the mask over your skin meaning you use less but it helps lift the product off your skin a lot easier so that you don’t have to spend 10 minutes trying to get it out of all the nooks and crannies. Pop into your nearest Origins counter and ask them to demonstrate the mask on a sponge, you’ll really see how more porous it makes your skin! I wasn’t convinced at first but it really works and will be perfect come holiday season as a hydration mist! Love it

IMO, a mask should always go on clean, bare skin. Regardless of whether it’s a cleansing, moisturising, or anti-aging mask, you want those ingredients right next to your skin so it can do its job in the ten minutes or however long you have it on. Mask primer seems … counterintuitive.

Sounds a bit like the concept behind Korean ‘Lotions’. I use one by Purebess, which is a Galatomyces essence and have always splashed that on after my acids before a sheet mask. It’s meant to soften the skin and prime for what comes afterwards (aid absorption) – be that sheet masks or your serums, moisturisers. Sounds very similar (and knowing Origins prices, a whole lot cheaper!!)

I have used this new maskimizer and it is amazing on the skin. Skin feels hydrated and smooth the mask just glides on and also so easy to remove . I think it is one of Origins brilliant innovations .
