Which Makeup and Beauty Products Do You Stockpile?

Makeup and Beauty Stockpile

Do you ever get that dreaded feeling in the pit of your stomach when you heart your favorite makeup, beauty, or fragrance might be discontinued? It’s a horrible feeling when a beloved beauty product disappears for good.

Le sigh!

I had this feeling recently when L’Oreal and Em Cosmetics parted ways. I love, I LOVE the Great Cover Up Concealer and suddenly the site was down and I couldn’t buy anything and I was running around in panic. I had just ordered several tubes during their Cyber Monday sale but what happens when that runs out!? The thought was terrifying….!

Thankfully the site is back but I’ve learned my lesson. Anytime there is a sale I buy a tube or two and I stuff them away! Just in case, you never know.

Do you have any makeup and beauty products that you stockpile?

Do share what they are!

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. Lip products are the items I’m most likely to stock, since that’s the item I most frequently use up and/or misplace. I just bought 5 tubes of one of my all time favorite lipsticks (Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Party Pink) because I found out that shade had been discontinued.

    • Isabella Muse

ugh dontcha just hate that feeling of it being gone forever?! 🙁 sadness!

  • Diana

There’s not much I would “stockpile”. I have backups for some products I use often: Philosophy Purity Made Simple, Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm, Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix pads, and Wen cleansing conditioner, to name a few.

  • Janessa

Better Than Sex mascara… I have like 4 full size and 4 or 5 mini’s. I will buy a TF set off of HSN if it has the mascara and justify the rest of the purchase for the full size tube. I actually date when I get a new tube so I can use them in the order I got them and I don’t have a random tube that ends up being a year old by the time I get to it. Can’t live without it. I’m interested to try the waterproof version that’s coming out, but I honestly HATE waterproof mascara…

    • Isabella Muse

ya know, better than sex just wasn’t one that wowed me…now you got me wondering if I need to give it a 2nd shot!

      • Janessa

Once it’s been open about a week, it’s phenomenal. It definitely needs to dry just a smidge. I will say that I do get mascara all over my lids because of how big the brush is, but I just let it dry and wipe away with a q-tip. I love the way it builds big fluffy lashes on me. You notice right away when it’s starting to get too dry. I feel like it’s definitely got a 1.5- 2 month sweet spot where it’s fab before it’s time for a new one.

I used to but I’ve learned to stop doing this.

However, it’s really an interesting coincidence (but there are no coincidences!) that you posted this because I had stockpiled the MATTE Maybelline Color Tattoos (OK, I had stockpiled all my favorite Maybelline CTs) and really don’t know what to do with all of them as I am mindful of expiration dates. But I thought of my dear Sista Muse who loves them and perhaps would like to add a few to her stash?

    • Isabella Muse

Hahaha I love you sis! <3! I, unfortunately, like you, stocked piled those to death! LOL! I put them in a sealed container in the back of my dark closet in the hopes that might keep them fresher longer 🙂 BUT THANK YOU! You are TOO sweet to offer xoxoxoxoxoxooxoxo! I have about three of each shade, shh don't tell anyone.

  • Christina D.

Oh great minds do indeed think alike! OK but if you change your mind and realize you really don’t have enough, just let me know.

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks will do! 🙂 xoxoxo! I love ya and you do realize I’d never be able to accept without returning the favor and sending you back a little gift box 😀

  • Dora

Trying to STOP doing this. Working through a stockpile of the DHC Cleansing Oil (read your Yes to Coconuts post so hopefully, but the non-eye thing is a total dealbreaker for me), and WEN cleansing conditioners (although I always buy the seasonal set so I always have a stockpile). I have a default stockpile of mascaras but that’s not on purpose since they always seem to come in gift sets.

    • Isabella Muse

haha likewise Dora! 🙂 Me too! I can’t really understand a cleanser that I can’t use on my eyes or even near my eyes! I, too, have a stockpile of Wen! 😀

      • Janessa

        Oh yes, I have a WEN stock-pile too. I haven’t purchased a new bottle in over a year and I think I have 3 32oz size bottles still -_ –

  • Kristy

Lip balms. I am obsessed with lip balms of all flavors, colors and shapes especially in the winter. I have around 20 different lip balm backups because I tend to misplace them. I am always looking for the next best balm lol

  • Megan

The only things I’ve stockpiled so far are the L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber mascara b/c I’ve finally found my HG and use nothing else, and the Rimmel Lash Accelerator serum b/c it’s the only lash growth product that has ever worked for me and I’ve seen it on clearance at a few places so I’m afraid they’re discontinuing it. I also hoard a lot of bath products and cleansing waters, etc., but usually not multiples of the same kind. I just like a big variety 🙂

    • Nikole

Hi Megan – ULTA online carries the lash accelerater serum – I just double checked. (Great stuff isn’t it?)

  • TropicalChrome

As I mentioned on your eyeliner post, the Milani Liquif’eye Eyeliner pencils. When they showed up at Dollar Tree, I bought LOTS. They’re all still sealed, so my fingers are crossed that they won’t dry out before I can get to them.

Revlon Icy Violet lipstick. I bought out a couple of CVS’s when it went on deep clearance. It’s one of those absolutely perfect shades on me.

Lilac scented soaps. It’s so hard finding ones that actually smell like real, fresh lilacs that I tend to go a bit overboard when I do find one. I’m working on reining this one in because I do like to use other scents once in awhile!

  • Traci

I would stockpile everything if I could, but I always have at least 2 back ups of my Julep Cleansing Oil. I would die if I ever ran out.

  • blee

LOL, there are to many to list, but a few:
Lip sticks, Tart liners, foundations, blushes, eye colors in many colors. I call it hoarding 🙂 and I like it:P

  • Rachel

Since it’s so frequently sold out at Ulta and Ulta.com, I stockpile Soap and Glory body lotion when it’s on sale and in stock! I panic when I get down to a single bottle.

    • Isabella Muse

haha for good reason as Soap and Glory just disappeared from Target a few years ago and I had mild panic attacks because of that 😀

  • Caitlin

Well, I haven’t stockpiled this yet, but I’m on the hunt to stockpile the Garner cleansing oil if I find it anywhere because I’m pretty sure it’s been discontinued! I’ve looked at Target, and several grocery stores where I’ve bought it before, and it’s nowhere to be found. I loved that formula and it was super cheap, so if I stumble across it somewhere you can bet I will be buying them out!

  • Chris Mcbride

I think Im really guilty of stockpiling mascaras. I’ll see one at the drugstore and pick it up or see one on HSN or the Q and order it. Im really bad about eye palettes and blushes too. I have to quit ordering lol.

  • Nat

Fresh Sugar lip treatment, Pixi Glow Tonic, and Dior Abricot Creme! 😀

Haven’t posted for a while, so hugs and kisses from me to you! :3

  • Katherine T.

I always have a backup of SuperGoop City Serum Sunscreen SPF 30. It’s hideously expensive, but is nicely moisturizing, no smell, and wears well under my foundation. I usually buy a backup tube during Sephora sale. I also keep a couple backups of Shea moisturizing soap

  • Lorraine M

The only products I have mini stock piles are Covergirl Mascara’s and ELF setting spray and brow gel. The mascara I got a really good deal, 50% off at Walmart on an internal not advertised sale. Every tube was less than $3 and I coun’t resist buying the different ones I haven’t tried yet but I’m being strong and opening one after I’m done with the other. The ELF is because when there’s a sale and I want something from the site, I use brow gels and setting sprays to fill the cart up to free shipping. I started doing that after realizing that I always ended up adding something unplanned to my ELF cart only to hate it. I’d rather get something I know I’ll eventually use.

  • Michou

So, when NARS lipstick in Outsider got canned, I honestly panicked as it is my absolute go to for an easy lip that goes with EVERYTHING. So I found some on Amazon, bought 3 and the panic subsided. I figure by the time I go through the four I have total now, I’ll have found a new go-to for everyday wear. 😀

  • Bonnie

    1) Ponds cleansing wipes – I keep about 50 packs on hand as I use several a day, including every morning instead of soap and water.
    2) MAC lippies in my fave colours. Got a lot of MAC in the house !
    3) Eyeliners from Kat Von D – great item, afraid to run out and not crazy about entering Sephora (too much temptation).
    4) Powders – foundation, blotting, strobing – if it’s a powder I have two of it!

  • Jackie

I try not to because I end up throwing away expired or dried out product. But, when I’m using my 20% off sephora coupon every year I throw in a couple backups of things that I use on the daily. Or, limited edition products that I know I’m going to want a backup of. I’ve got two backups of my holy grail Tarte Lights Camera Splashes, a backup Smashbox Primer Water, and a backup Urban Decay eye primer in Enigma. All things that I know I’ll use up and start the next one immediately. Everything else I bounce around too much so it’s too risky. I’ve also got a few lipsticks as spares, just because I’ve accidently ordered more than one and kept them rather than going through the return process.
I don’t consider all my free sample stuff as stocking up as I don’t go out with the intent of acquiring them. I’ve got a lot of sample size products though. I sorted through them the other day and I separated them out into 4 different makeup bags.

  • Iris

I don’t stockpile exactly the same product but I have a collection of lipsticks and eyeshadows. Enough to last for years. I find items I like which are limited edition or I’m afraid they’ll discontinue and I buy them. Shampoos are starting to get up there. I haven’t seen the Vidal Sassoon Cherry Almond items in my local drugstore. If they’re not available in other stores, I think I’ll buy one so I don’t miss it.

  • Bren Owsley

I seem to stockpile everything, but, if I had to narrow it down, it would be eyeshadow palettes. I just hold on to them forever and a day. I always feel like the colors will come back into season and I will have those colors already!!! It really doesn’t work that way, I always seem to buy the new palette anyways, lol

  • Chelsea

I stockpile Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks when they’re on sale, so I never have to worry about running out!

  • Michou

So, speaking of stockpile… I just heard that Bite is discontinuing their Creme lipstick line this month. I’m sure they’re going to replace it with something fab, but I flat out panicked and bought back ups to three of my fave shades so that I have them. They’re absolutely my favorite formula and would hate to feel like I’m lost to them forever if the new formula isn’t as good on my lips.

      • Michou

Oh, hon, I WISH I was! They’re going away as soon as the 12th of this month, and already Sephora is out of so many colors. I got back ups of Pomegranate, Tannin and Mimosa. Were you able to grab anything???

        • Isabella Muse

I’m so sad 🙁 I can’t believe it. I got VIB Rouge just in case that disappears as well as Quince, Apricot, and Palomino! Now I wanna go back for more..! sadness!

          • Michou

I was able to nab Zivoli during a very brief restock. Now, I’m considering going back for Palomino and/or Quince. ARGH. I have to stop lol.

          • Isabella Muse

haha! I was trying to sort through and get shades I never tried but another part of me is saying, “GET backups of your favs!”

          • Jackie

Oh man, I didn’t think about the VIB Rouge one! I picked up Shiraz and Retsina and I’m going to another store later to grab another Musk. This is crazy!

          • Isabella Muse

the vib rouge one is my absolutely fav one! I def grabbed another JUST in case!

          • Michou

I JUST bought the VIB Rouge one and loved it but love Tannin more on my skintone, so I think I’m safe on getting yet another VIB Rouge one hahaha.

Girl, we have problems. Stockpile problems.

          • Isabella Muse

LOL!!!!!!! Among other beauty issues I’m sure 😀

          • Jackie

I’m not a red lip girl (I just don’t think it looks good on me) but the thought of not being able to get it if I want to later on… These are the things that haunt my thoughts!

  • genevieve

I have a stack of eye shadow palettes and yet I am still lusting after that bareMinerals Soft and Smoky palette!
I tend to stock up on my favourite foundation – Rimmel’s Match Perfection when it is on sale – especially a 2 for 1 offer. I also have a stack of lippies as well, but I am working through those and have recently thrown out a few that I haven’t used for awhile.
I also stockpile my favourite bath and body products too. Oh well!
