Your Longest Running Beauty Relationship

beauty relationships

As a beauty blogger products run through my makeup and beauty life very, very quickly. It’s hard to develop a relationship with a foundation when I’m off trying the next big thing in the foundation world. Likewise for many skincare products and even color cosmetics.

Sometimes I look at my collection and I realize how few staples I really have. I think that stems from the fact I’m pretty picky about keeping on products unless I’m really see some great results from them.

What are some beauty, makeup, or skincare products that you have the longest running relationship with?

Something, after all these years, you use daily and will likely never, ever give up!

Mine is Benefit Lemon-Aid! I’ve been using it for nearly, gulp, 15 or 16 years maybe more.

Lemon Aid and Benetint were introduction to Benefit Cosmetics! I’ve always loved Lemon Aid as it’s like having a separate concealer just for your lids. My eye looks all begin with concealer under my eyes and Lemon Aid on my lids. It brightens up my entire eye! Plus I tend to use it on the weekends, curl my lashes, and go! No need for anything else.

Yeah, so I love this stuff and it’s one of my longest running beauty relationships with a product.

What about you?

What’s the longest time you’ve used a staple product?

How long have you been using it?

Do share!

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Mine is Clinique’s Pore Refining Solutions Instant Perfector, and it wasn’t called that when I first started using it about ten years ago. I use it in fair every single day after my foundation. I’ve even used as a eye primer.

    • Dee

I have to add CoverGirl clump crusher mascara. My absolute favorite and I will be very sad if they ever discontinue it.

  • Jen R

Maybelline Shine Free loose powder. I have literally used this since high school and I am 36 now. Have tried others, but always go back! <3

  • Lisa

Mine is neutrogena body clear body wash. Keeps my back, shoulders and chest nice and smooth.

  • Jess

Oh wow, interesting question! I wore Lancôme oscillation mascara for 7ish years, but in the past few months I’ve been using others! Not that I have a problem with the Lancome one. It’s still probably my favourite, I just got curious. I’d also have to say Mac eye shadows, specifically All That Glitters… I’ve been using that shade for about ten years! It’s not something I wear every day, but it’s a classic and I love it. Of stuff I currently use EVERY day though… Maybe Touche Eclat? Been using it about 2 years. Not that long at all. But since I started using it, I’ve used it daily and have never considered stopping using it.

  • Tiffany

Does Vaseline count? I’m like you Muse and can’t stick to one product even if it’s HG because I want to try something new!

    • Isabella Muse

Vaseline counts! 🙂 I use it too! Under my eyes, elbows, knees 😀 and it’s cheap to boot!

  • Maggie

Blistex white ointment. It’s been a staple for more than half my life and I can’t go through a winter without it.

  • LouAnne

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel … I have used it just about everyday since it was introduced up-teen years ago. It’s the best under spf/makeup moisture for me there is.

  • FrugalCat

I’ve been using Chapstick for about 35 years. There were a lot fewer options for lip balm 35 years ago.

  • Sarah

Blistex Lip Medex. I use this multiple times a day, every day. And Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer. I will never use another eye primer ever.

  • Rachel

I am like you and keep changing things around constantly. My longest beauty relationship is probably with MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation – I’ve only been using it for about 4 years. O.O That’s kinda sad! lol I have even strayed from it a few times, but I always come back. I love the ease of application, the finish I get, how long it holds up, and the color match (N4) is the best I’ve ever had!

  • Cindy

Clinique Fresh Bloom Allover Color in Peony! They recently changed it to “Peony Blend” so I begrudgingly use that, but I LOVED the original and I don’t even know how many years I’ve been using it. I think the only place I can get it now is online at Saks. The stores don’t have it. The Sculptionary Cheek Contouring Palette in Defining Roses is the same color, but I still want my Peony! Another one is Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base – my make up doesn’t move EVER when this is on and I won’t give it up! EVER!! I’m talking prying it out of my cold dead hands here! HAHA! Another one is MAC Cherry lipliner. If they ever do away with Cherry, I’m holding my own funeral because it is the ONLY lipliner I use with ALL THE REDS! Kat Von D Underage Red, NARS Dragon Girl and MAC Ruby Woo are 3 red lipsticks I won’t give up either! There’s probably more but I can’t think of them now . . .

  • Kimmwc03

Hmm…well, I always have BareMinerals Original foundation around but I’ve grown tired of it lately (I’ve been using it for probably 20 years off and on). I have been a big fan of Clinique liquid soap (in the green bottle) for about ten years. But, I am always trying new skincare and cosmetics.

  • Christina D.

Can it be a particular product, but not any particular brand? I have no brand loyalty, although I am partial to a few.

My Kryptonite is eye shadow palettes. By far, my longest running beauty relationship is with eye shadows. If I bought nothing else, or put on no other make up, I have always been into eye shadow.

Eye liner would be a very close second in relationship length, but not in quantity. I have several eye liners, but stacks and stacks of eye shadow palettes.

    • Isabella Muse

but of course! It’s def not brand related but more product related 😀 But hey if you wanna go for one particular category that’s fine too 😀

  • Cin

Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo, and Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser. I have been using these staples for yeeearrs! I have BB’s lip balms all over (purse, bathroom, nightstand, desk) as nothing else works for me and it is natural. I use N’s Anti-Res shampoo once a week and it leaves my hair so squeaky clean. And, I always go back to N’s blue face cleanser! Nothing removes my heavy makeup as good as this. I alternate it with other cleansers and miss it immensely when I’m out.

  • Janessa

Burts Bees lip balm most definitely. Been using it since HS and I’ll be 31 (OMG I can’t believe I just admitted that) in 3 weeks.

MAC Omega eyeshadow has been my go-to brow powder for over a decade… We’re in a serious long term relationship. I’ve tried a ton of brow products over the years but I always go back to Omega.

And of course, Orgasm. Shes a ride or die… I’ll always have a pan.

  • Jay

Haha totally agree with Vaseline! It’s passed through generations! MAC Studio Fix foundation powder. It’s an absolute must for me.

  • cora

Dior’s creme de rose lip balm… i know it’s really expensive and there are so many more economical options, but it’s my splurge and the idea of going through a winter (or even a matte lip day!) without it frightens me. (Remember the time where it was rumored to be discontinued???)

    • Isabella Muse

I do! 😀 I remember reading about it as far as on fragrance forums 😀

  • blee

LOl the 1st thing that is long term and I have not changed or tried another is my deodorant Lafe’s 🙂

  • Dora

MAC Diva for a looooong time. Lancome eye liner in Black Coffee for even longer. But I no longer wear either. So, maybe Prescriptives Vibrant-C? It’s a brightening skin cream that I’ve used for years, and thought I was going to have to hoard when Prescriptives ceased selling at department stores but you can still buy it online. I wore it on its own for years and now I mix it (occasionally) with foundation or BB cream. I’ve slowed down on how much I use but have no plans to stop. Oh, and Wen. For at least 10 years.

  • Another Jackie

I feel like such a slut… I can’t really think of anything . I’m barely in a long-term with relationship with anything. I’m not even a long term Vaseline user. I’ve used Soap and Glory Clean on Me for 2 or 3 years, but I use only like a pump a day since it’s so foamy so I’ve really only used 2 big bottles and a couple travel bottles. I’ve been using the Bite Agave Lip Mask for a couple years. And, my favorite foundation Tarte’s 12 hour Amazonian Clay foundation it’s only been about 2.5 years and I cheat on it all the time because I LOVE trying new foundations. I’m just a playa I guess… LOL
I think back to what I was using 10 – 15 years ago and all I think is “What was I thinking?!”
I really like this question though, Muse!

  • amy

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara & Lineur Intense, both in black, will *always* be a part of my stash. I’ve tried others, DS to HE, but I keep going back… This is a relationship that has been going on for nearly 30 years, so it’s safe to say it’s true love…

As far as brands go, I have been consistent with Kat von D & Urban Decay when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, for nearly 10 years (of course I’ve bought others, but I have grabbed most of the releases from these 2 brands). NARS is still my all-time favorite brand, although the past few collections haven’t thrilled me, and I’m still broken-hearted over the demise of Douceur…

  • TropicalChrome

Blistex lip balm, especially the mint variety. (It’s not really flavored, which is one reason I love it.). It’s soft, goes on smoothly, and it works.

Revlon nail polish. Not the colorstay/gelalikes/scented, but the plain old regular line in the bottle that’s a conical section. Still works, still has great colors, lasts forever. Heck, I took my online name from a limited edition color from easily 20 years ago…and yes, I still have a half full bottle of it!

  • Jennifer A

Mine has to be Urban Decay’s Gash lipstick and nail polish. It was my first purchase ever from them back in 1997! I still have the original nail polish and lipstick tube for nostalgic purposes. Anytime it comes back I always buy several to have backups in case they discontinue it again! I’m also partial to Benefit’s Dandelion blush that has been my HG since I started using it 15 years ago! Man do I feel old now lol

    • Isabella Muse

I was so happy when Gash came back! I’m not much of a polish girl but I love that shade in both lipstick and nail polish ;-D You aren’t old!!!!!!!

  • Rachel R.

BareMinerals Original Foundation SPF 15 and Mineral Veil in Translucent. I’ve been using them for more than 15 years.

  • Chynna

Oh man, great question! I am such a product junkie that I keep changing it up. I think these are the three things I’ve used the longest:

Origins Out of Trouble Mask – I’ve used this as a spot treatment for occasional acne and love it. Origins makes great masks.

Seche Vite Top Coat – It’s finicky and I thin it a lot, but I’ve never found anything better in terms of shine, dry time, or longevity.

WEN – I used to switch hair products all the time and rarely ever finished anything. I started using WEN about 5 years ago and now I literally buy WEN Fig by the gallon. Fig isn’t even my favorite scent, but the moisture makes my curls happy.

  • morgane

i’ve been using some form of tinted moisturizer since i was in junior high. i’ve never even tried foundation! i used the neutrogena tinted moisturizer in the plain white bottle up until 3 years ago when i decided to switch to more green, cruelty free makeup products. there definitely weren’t as many tinted moisturizer options out there when i started using it 15+ years ago.

  • Kay

Urban Decay Sin eyeshadow, without a doubt! First tried it in the ammo palette when I was 16, now pushing 25 and have never been without it in one form or another! I actually still own the same Dime 24/7 liner and Uzi eyeshadow single I bought on the same day, I’d never even considered that the darn things are now nine years old :O

  • Gina D

Recent devotee to your blog-only one I like to keep up with-thank you for doing all the legwork! I too, am not loyal to very much-I just enjoy the hunt and discovery! Beauty staples I ALWAYS have in the house: coconut oil-all over body moisturizer, Shea butter for hands and feet , Tarte eyelash curler, eve lom cleansing balm, and Nubian heritage bar soaps for shower and bath. That’s about it-everything else comes and goes!

    • Isabella Muse

aw gina thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 <3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg yes Eve Lom Cleansing Balm is my awesome!

  • Meagn

Get into the way, way back machine. I am a fanatic for keeping old cosmetics, and powder eyeshadow can last indefinitely if properly cared for. So, this may be from before many of you were born.

Revlon Ultima II Patina Eyeshadow Duet in Plumstone and Dusty Pink. When I discovered the perfect eyeshadow color for me, ever, in the very early 80s, I bought **several**. I tend to only wear makeup on dressy occasions (few), so I still have a couple that are untouched. This color combination has served me from my early 20s through my late 50s (with some application updates) beautifully. I also kept my eyes peeled for dupes and have a couple that are close – but this is still the most beautiful combination I’ve found. I’ll be wearing it (subtly) on my 100th birthday to dance with a handsome man.

  • ann

I’ll be 40 in May, and I have a few long term loves/hacks.
Stridex maximum strength pads – they work as a pre-moisturizer toner, and the 2% salicylic acid included therein is way cheaper than fancier BHA formulations. Heck, I rub them on my heels, too, and to get ready for sandals, leave one in each sock overnight.
Fruit of the Earth aloe vera gel is a great hair gel/leave in conditioner for short hair. Heck, you can get some nice spikes or go all out Don Draper and it shampoos out perfectly, unlike regular hair gels!

  • Amy

Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in Sin. I’m so pale that I can wear it by it’s self as a pinky eye shadow on most days. And I’ve been using it for about 9 years. I remember when it was only $15 for a tube with a doe foot applicator and the tube was much larger than the one they sell now!

  • Yen

Hmm I think my longest relationship is with eyeliner in general and maybelline waterproof mascaras. I don’t wear eyeliner every single day anymore, but I still love it! As for maybelline, I’ve literally tried all of the waterproof mascaras that were released since 2007! Even the older ones sold on the shelves back then. I’ve strayed a few times to cover girl and higher end brands, but I disliked them all. It’s just waterproof mascara, but I’ve used it for so long that I’m picky on how it performs.

Another item I’ve been using since it was released in the US is Bobbi Brown bb cream. It’s not great for me in the summer since I get really oily, but I still wear the heck out of that thing! Although lately I’ve been cheating on it with cover fx powder foundation. I’ve also been using Kiss My Face’s Face Factor spf 30 sunscreen for the last 4-5 years. I seriously can’t remember what sunscreen I used before that.

  • Ana

Hi Muse….my longest relationship has been with…Philosophy Hope in a Jar….5 years now…it’s gotten to the point I just order the super size jar.

    • Isabella Muse

Ugh I love Hope in a Jar’s formula but I hate the smell 🙁 wish I could use it!

  • Sammy

Hmmm…my longest lasting relationship with a cosmetic has to be Pixi Beauty Correction Concentrate. Love that stuff. I’ve been using it for a few years and I’ve never been able to find anything that works as well for correcting dark circles, blemishes, spider veins. I love the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter shower wash, along with the body oil and butter too. Those 3 items are a staple in my bathroom. My two long term beauty love affairs are simply a humidifier during the cold, dry months and a dry brush. I swear by both to keep skin in great shape!

  • Sandy Smith

Fun question! Mine is Loreal True Match foundation. I’ve used it since it launched in 2004. Have tried many, many other brands, both drugstore and high end but keep going back to this one. I love it for the pretty, natural finish and the great shade match for my yellow undertones. Looks great in pics.

  • Christina

This isn’t cosmetics or skincare but I’ve used Redken Guts for close to 16 years now.

  • Lorrie

Mine is CoverGirl Professional Waterproof Mascara since the 80’s. The original non waterproof was superb, but they changed the formula in the mid 90’s, I believe. I’ve also been using Nucleic A hair Glaz design gel since the mid 80’s, but it just got discontinued. It was made by Zotos.

  • Jen

Mine would be Maybelline Full n’ Soft waterproof mascara. I have paler eyelashes, red-blonde hair and fair but oily skin, and this is the only black mascara that doesn’t budge, clump, or look ridiculously unnatural.

  • Kerrie Frazier

Estée Lauder waterproof foundation, it’s used to cover up scars, etc. I use it as concealer, but I also use their liquid waterproof concealer. It’s the absolute best! I have tried every brand, cheap, expensive. Nothing stays on as well. I do Bridal makeup. My brides always go and buy it after their wedding. Ive used it forEVER! Great question!

  • genevieve

For me it would have to be the QV range of skincare products – Australian made, cruelty free and easily available (often on sale, in deals etc.). I use the body wash in the shower – gentle and moisturising (no perfumes); the daily moisturiser (SPF 30) and the moisture cream for decades now. Perfect for sensitive skins.

  • Linda

What’s wrong with me? I can’t think of any makeup product I’ve been using for more than a year or two. I’m 50- been wearing makeup for 36 years now- but new products are so much better than the old craptastic stuff. I rarely even repurchase, let alone stay loyal. The few items I’ve repurchased are It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, Smashbox foundation, Mario Bedescu rose water and aloe primer spray, and Mac Brick-o-la lipstick. I don’t think I’ve ever repurchased a blush or mascara. Too many new products to try!

  • Lauryn

L’oreal Voluminous mascara(preferably in carbon black) since at least 2002 and Its a 10 hair mask and leave in conditioner since 2007ish. I do cheat on the mascara but always return to it because it seems to be the only one that doesn’t bother my contacts and or give me raccoon eyes. The hair products are a necessity for my curly whacked out likes to tangle up hair, if they ever discontinue making it that will be the day I cut off my hair.

  • Silvia

It is difficult to say I change my makeup everyday for fun. As a runner I would say chapstick daily it is thick and doesn’t melt in my pocket as easy as others have, Vaseline applied to lips before going to sleep, Hawaiian Sport spf for body have never gotten a sunburn even wearing tank tops for hours in the beach. I have wavy tons of volume hair I love Shea moisturizer by Cantu I get it at Target or Sally Hansen and buy back ups when on sale, a little bit of coconut oil for frizzies and shine from Palmers or Garnier. I have tried many different beauty products am not loyal to much since I love to try new stuff. I do like however Cover Girl and L’Oréal foundations from drugstores. Love many WetnWild things! Physicians Formula blushes also so soft and natural, their shimmering strips. Loving soap & Glory peach & pink blushes lately with sort of a highliter built in, Milani Naked blushes too!

  • DW

This Revlon lash curler I bought back in the late 80’s. It fit the shape of my eyes perfectly. Finally had to get a replacement around 2012. Tweezerman. I live in europe now. Have not been able to find a curler that fits my round eye shape.
