If you’re craving the gradient ombre lip look that’s so popular in Korea these new Etude House Balm + Color Tint Pencils might just get you the look. I just like chubby lip pencils so does that count?

Etude House Balm + Color Tint

Etude House Balm + Color Tint are a chubby twist up lip pencil available in five shade selections that launched a few months ago in Korea. I can’t, for the life of me, perfect the gradient lip look that everyone is so crazy about in Korea. When I try it looks like I have chapped lips, dry ones, or it looks like my lip shade wore away. It’s just not a pretty look!

So in my quest to perfect a gradient lip look I purchased two of these.

Etude House Balm + Color Tint Swatches (Sour Candy Shade 2 and Midnight Wine Shade 5)

These are a simple design with two shades that have two different finish each of which is located on opposite sides of the pointed tip. You’re supposed to apply the sheerer lip balm shade first all over your lips and use the darker, more pigmented shades to gently faded out the color by applying at the inner area of your lips. And yeah, so that doesn’t work for me….! I still end up looking like a try to hard…! It’s kinda like a little girl that got caught playing with her mom’s makeup! Not a pretty look!

So..I just ended up using them a little differently.

The sheerer side has a light, thin hydrating consistency with very little color payoff but it does add a hint of sheen to lips. Typically I apply this end first and follow up with the more pigmented side which has a thicker, balmy texture and more pigmentation. You can also reverse that order and apply the darker shade first and the sheerer second to add a bit of a high sheen finish. They wear for around three hours before fading and have a rather nice look and feel to them that’s lightly hydrating through the wear.

So, maybe my lips aren’t meant for that cute gradient lip (but slightly sickly) look but these are still a rather fun little take on the average, everyday chubby lip pencil. I love it has two different sides with two different formulas!

You can get these now from my favorite ebay.com seller, F2Plus1.

I have to admit that I don’t love the gradient Korean lip look. I like the American trend of fuller lips with lots of lip liner! These sticks didn’t really appeal to me… Quick question though, I’ve notice that you don’t order directly from Etude House. Any reason for that?

I don’t either. It looks good on Asian girls as it gives them a cute doll look but I look sickly when I try it! :-/ I hate their shipping! Takes two and a half weeks or more to get anything. I can order from f2plus1 and get it within 7 days. Instant gratification kinda girl!

I agree! I look horrible in them but they are very flattering on Asian girls!
