Have You Been a Victim of Poor Makeup Promotional Images?

So, you know how I’m always like, “OMG I can’t wear glowy highlighters on my fuller face!” But I have to admit that I have a serious addiction to glowy blushes. NARS Orgasm, Milani Blossomtime Rose Powder Blush (as seen below on my cheeks), Sephora Double Contouring Blush, these are just a few of my favorite blushes that give me a gorgeous, radiant glow.

I was browsing Sephora, as I have been known to do, and I came across the new Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow and instantly clicked on the link. New glow blush? By Kevyn Aucoin? I’m so on that.

Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow

So glow for me implies some radiant or luminous finish. According to the description, it’s a lightweight powder blush that brings a soft wash of color to cheeks with a warm glow.

Ok…

But dude, the promo images are boring.

I’m wondering if I should pick up Fira, which looks like a rather delightful corally orange and see how much “glow” we’re talking about here.

Is it possible Kevyn Aucoin’s The Pure Powder Glow is a victim of bad promo images?

Has it happened to you before?

You’re shopping online, and the description of some new makeup item sounds AMAZING but…

The promotional image is such a gross misrepresentation of the product or the color? I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve passed up on something amazing because the promo image was so bad.

MAC is notorious for releasing bad color images of their products as the shades are NOT true to life in the least.

What makeup have you purchased or not purchased due to bad promo images?

Have you been a victim of poor promotional images?

I have to admit I’m one of those people that DOES judge a book by its cover. If a book has a bad cover I’ll sometimes pass it by. Likewise for bad makeup promo images!

Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I just bought one of the new Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks online, and when it arrived it was a totally different color than the picture I saw on Sephora’s website!! So irritating. 🙁

Caroline, I did the same thing….I loved others I’d gotten & ordered Sweet Cream which turned out to be bright ORANGE!

This! And every website’s swatches (sephora, ulta, macys, nordstrom…etc) are different, I don’t know who to trust anymore! This is why we need you Muse!! XD

haha! My swatches are not that good though 😀 but thanks Z!

Nars. I’ve noticed they have a little disclaimer about the images not being guaranteed to be accurate. The Audacious lipstick in Dominique, tons darker IRL as opposed to the website.

I’m more like to think something looks great in the promo pic, then I see it in person and find it disappointing.

Sephora and Ulta have really crappy product pictures, so I learned to Google anything I can’t see in person.

Colourpop pastes the same stripe of color over different skin tones arms. I really, really appreciate that they have deeper skinned models but can we get some real swatches?! The colors are always a surprise when they arrive. Same with those weird, fake lip swatches. Companies just photoshop the color on some lips and call it a day lol.

    • Isabella Muse

Are they photoshopping those over arms? Because you’re right! I see the shade in the arm swatches but I get it and I’m like “wait a second…” It just looks nothing like their own swatches!

Basically ANY liquid lipstick that shows soft, full, not-at-all-dehydrated lips. =| I mean, I have to slather mine in Carmex to make them look plump and healthy! Liquid lippies, as much as I love em, shrink them to the size and texture of a prune. So I always avoid the promo images for those…
