Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick

Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick are a new demi-matte lipstick that are part of the new Covergirl x Katy Perry Collection that are launching now at drugstores.

As we all know matte lipstick isn’t exactly the easiest formula to pull off nor is a forgivable formula. Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick, contrary to their name, aren’t a full matte finish lipstick but a demi-matte one. This demi-matte finish is considerably creamier than matte formula and has a touch of a sheen plus you’ll find the formula a lot more hydrating.

Covergirl collaborated with Katy Perry to create 13 shades in the Katy Katy Matte Lipstick Collection which will get a permanent launch in July but are already popping up now at drugstores (I got mine at Harmons). Each lipstick comes in special, limited edition white packaging with Katy Perry ❤ Covergirl printed on the side (if you look at the bottom of the lipsticks there’s also a little cat ear print that embraces the shade name! It’s a rather cute little feature especially for cat lovers!).

Let’s take a look at some swatches!

I paid $6.99 each for the shades I purchased but at most mass retailers such as Walgreens and CVS expect to pay in and around $8.99 each. I’m not much of a Covergirl Lipstick fan in all honesty which is why I stuck to three shades but after trying them I can see myself potentially going back for more. Katy Kat Matte Lipstick quite reminds me of a lighter version of Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Lipstick and considering I loved that formula it was easy enough to fall for this one.

I can think of any number of celebrities and youTube gurus who look incredible in matte lipstick but I, sadly, am not one of those lucky people. I’m prone to drier lips so I always feel like matte stick to flakier areas on my lips. They also feel very tight and dry. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried many different mattes and even loved many of them but I prefer something creamier and more hydrating.

Covergirl successfully created a semi-matte finish lipstick that brings you a lighter matte formula that’s wearable, comfortable, and even lightly hydrating. Their demi-matte formula has a velvety, creamy texture that glides across lips like butter. They created the formula with shea, aloe, and avocado butter so you get a really smooth, easy glide with a very lightly hydrating formula. These do not drag in the least nor do they clinging to drier areas however, in some cases, I did have an issue with color falling into may natural lip line. This only happened with one shade I tried, Sphynx. Aside from that shade the other two colors had a smooth, even finish with excellent pigmentation and a solid five hour wear. They do have some sort of vanilla flavor and fragrance which deserves mentioning for sensitive users.

I was incredibly impressed with this formula. Truly it’s one of Covergirl’s best to date. Excellent color, comfortable, long wear, and a lightweight, super creamy, buttery consistency made Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick a joy to apply and wear!

I’d highly recommend checking out a shade or two (or more!).

Loves ’em!

I bought three at Walmart last week. Spynx, Catoure and another neutral one.

Hello! I read some Walmart reviews complaining about the smell of the product. How do they smell to you??

          • Nada K

Thanks! I think you are SO lovely – love you!

          • Isabella Muse

aw thank you nada! <3!!!!!! Love ya back! Hope you like the lipsticks! If you try, stop back let me know what you think!

          • Nada K

Hello Beauty! I just received the Katy Kat lipstick and I LOVE it! The smell and taste are very pleasant and mild to me. I got the Kitty Purry (which I also love just saying) and it is a great purplish colour. Hugs to you. Nada

          • Isabella Muse

Hi Nada!!!!!! YES! That’s great! I didn’t mind it either. I was tempted by Kitty Purry but was scared of it a little haha! Enjoy my dear, wear in health! xoxoxox!

Muse- I was so hoping you would purchase the Panther color. I know you don’t care for those deep/vampy colors but I wanted to know if it would be as creamy as the others and how smooth the application would be. I purchased the Cosmo Kitty but it reminds me of so many violets that I already own. However, I do like the application.

    • Isabella Muse

aw sorry! Skipped on that one! If I do try it I’ll let you know 🙂

    • amy

I just picked up Perry Panther (along with Maroon Meow & Crimson Cat), and while I can’t attest to wear-time, actual application is flawless. It goes on smoothly, doesn’t drag/skip, and isn’t at all patchy. The same goes for the other 2, and there is no apparent difference in formulation.

One caveat, however, although pigmentation is strong & even, it is still not completely opaque, and is an obvious blue-based black. If you’re looking for a deep, strong, inky black, this may be one to skip. For me, personally, it was actually a pleasant surprise, as I already have several inky, blackest black lipsticks, and this one is definitely unique to my stash.

Also, if applied over a red-toned pencil, just enough red peeks through to be noticeable, and more “wearable” for those new to black lipstick. I’m looking forward to playing with more combos, and will be grabbing a backup.

yay glad you liked. I thought the formula was quite nice. I’m hoping that the new chiffon finish lipsticks from Etude House are like these as they sound demi-matte in finish (https://www.musingsofamuse.com/2016/05/new-japanese-korean-makeup.html). I like this texture! It’s light, doesn’t drag, and doesn’t feel dry during the wear. I can def do mattes like this. I didn’t try the black one but happy to hear it worked out for you 🙂

  • Jay

I bought & returned 3 of these. The color selection was just ‘meh’. The formula was fine. I’m thinking I’ve hit full matte lipstick overload haha. No more! I do want to get some new summer lipsticks and Covergirl makes some beautiful brights!

  • Rachel R.

I got two of these, and took them back a few days later. The colors were lovely, but the scent/taste was too much. Usually I’m OK with CoverGirl, but the taste with these never went away. It tasted like I sprayed old lady heavy floral perfume on my mouth.

  • Lori

I have Sphynx and Catoure, and I love everything about them! I’m considering getting more. And may I say, Catoure looks great on you!!!

    • Isabella Muse

thanks Lori <3! 🙂 I'm glad to hear it! I'm going to purchase a few more shades too! I really liked them too!

  • Z

i’d just like to say “wow” to Catoure! It looked great on you! I’m thinking of getting it now!

  • Saspants

Purchased six while traveling for work, I have learned to pick it up when I find it during my travels as I never know when they will launch in my home town of Houston. I can’t remember the colors offhand, but I do like the formula and was impressed with the stay power. My fav was the dark brick (blue) red, that is a definite must have for any red lipstick junkie!!

  • Kiran

I hope they bring Cover Girl to the UK soon, so many of their products look fantastic! Great post x

  • Courtney

These have been impossible to find in the Seattle area . Sold out everywhere. I did find a couple shades at the local grocery store and bought them, but they were not the shades I initially wanted & they both were a little unflattering on me. I really want to try Sphinx and Catoure. You are so lucky you scored them!

    • amy

I am seriously kicking myself for not grabbing Sphynx when I had the chance! I just checked 3 stores today, 1 didn’t get them yet, 2 were picked over…

  • Madison grant

I was doing research on the ingredients on the Katy Perry matte lipstick to see if it has any Lanolin (I am quite allergic to it) and ALMOST every lipstick made has that ingredient in it. And I REALLY liked the colors! But to my disappointment it had “acetylated lanolin” which I am allergic too…….. I wish covergirl would make a lipstick that has NO lanolin!!!

  • Jenn

Katy Kat’s Spynx is AMAZING – it is THE nude for me. I need to buy up like 20 of them!

  • Chas Bacon

I recently picked up panther and kitty purr on a whim, and lemme tell ya, I’m surprised at how in love I am! I’m usually not a fan of many covergirl products, but I’m soooo glad I stepped out of my box on this one. Panther is a good black for beginners in the black lipstick area, and mixes well with other colors for an ombre effect. And kitty purry….omg….I have a very VERRY extensive lipstick collection and this shade has not left my side in the month that I’ve had it. It’s my new go-to. So much so that I just went out and bought 2 more for fear of running out and not finding it again. My favorite way to wear it is with younique’s moodstruck precision lip pencil in pompous, which is a lovely purpley mauve. It gives my lips such a delicious look that I get sad when it’s time to remove it haha. One of my best drug store buys in months! Btw, I love your site, I’m a recent follower/muse minion, and now every time I think of purchasing something I come here first to see if you’ve reviewed it. Keep up the amazing work! <3 Chas

    • Isabella Muse

Yay I’m so glad you enjoyed thee Chas 😀 They really are gorgeous and a beautiful formula! 😀 haha a muse minion, I love that! and thank you very much so glad you’re enjoying my site xoxoxoxoxoxo! Happy Holidays!

  • Silvia

The purple color is calling me! Something different to try. I think is beautiful as well as all these three shades!

    • Silvia

Well, sad to say I didn’t like it at all and returned three of these K.P. lipsticks really wanted that purple to work. Nope!

  • Diane

I bought the pink paws and I thought the colour was nice but the taste is awful
