Lancome Hydra Zen Beauty Essence, Heavy on Fragrance and Light On Moisture

Lancome Hydra Zen Beauty Essence

Lancome Hydra Zen Beauty Essence ($49) is a gel-like essence that promises to provide intense hydration to skin while visibly fighting the sighs of stress. See? The name says it all! It gets you to your peaceful, beauty zen place.

I need more than an essence to relax in all honesty but I’m willing to give this a try! With the increasing popular of essence here in the US many brands have been adding essence like lotions and toners to their skincare line up. I don’t think the routine has quite caught on here in the US but I do think curiosity is starting to brew about possibly adding an essence to your skin care routine. Believe me, it’s quite a beneficial addition especially if you have drier skin as essence does help moisturizer to absorb more easily while providing plenty of hydration all its own as well.

Now, Lancome Hydra Zen Beauty Essence is a little heavier on the fragrance and light on the moisture aspect but it is a good starting point for essence beginners.

Lancome Hydra Zen Beauty Essence comes housed in a 6.7 oz pump bottle. Yeah, it’s a lot of essence but you’ll find that you’ll go through it quicker than your moisturizer in most cases since you’ll need quite a bit to cover your entire face. In the bottle, you’ll notice that it looks like a gel and it does in fact pump out into your hand as a gel as well. But it quickly breaks down and turns into a runny, watery consistency.

Most people will mistakenly saturate a cotton pad and wipe this over their face. I believe essence is best tapped on. I typically pump some into the palms of my hands and gently hold the palms of my hands to my face to allow the product to absorb. After that I gently tap the tips of my fingers around my face to further aid the product in absorbing. I apply about three to four pumps of the essence to my face in one go but you can use more or less depending on your needs.

It is highly fragranced and has a lovely rose scent but this could potentially be a problem for sensitive users. It does contain alcohol but I had no issues with it drying my skin out. It’s offers very light moisture but it does leave a little stickiness behind prior to moisturizer application. It does help moisturizer to absorb more easily into skin. It also helps retain moisture so skin is softer, smoother, and more supple.

Lancome Hydra Zen Beauty Essence isn’t my favorite essence formula in the world but it is a good starting point for those who are starting out into the world of essences. This provides a light, hydrating base for serums and moisturizers. The fragrance could potentially be an issue for many users but it didn’t bother me!

Thanks for the review. I hace dry skin and I am very interested in adding an essence to my skincare care routine and I was seriously considering this one or maybe the new pearly essence from energy de vie (also lancome), because they sound very good. But now that you mention the heavy fragrance I think I will have to look for another option, that is something that really bothers me in cosmetics and is one of the reasons I like Clinique. Any recommendations?

Honestly, every single essence I own has some fragrance sadly 🙁 I haven’t run across any that are fragrance-free but maybe one of my reader’s can chime in and recommend something!

i recommend asian brand. they dont contain fragrance, so they smell original. sk II smell just like yeast. the ugly smell is just original smell from yeast and another brand dont use fragrance just like sk II. and there are dupes too (like secret ley, missha). you can find cheap to expensive item (there are so many brands of them). so, just try asian brand (i recommend japan and korean brand, in my opinion they’re the best product in asia). start searching one that suits your skin issue.
