What’s Your Favorite Long Gone Lipgloss Formula?

long gone lipgloss

What’s your favorite long gone lipgloss formula?

3, 2, 1 GO!

This is so easy for me!

My favorite long gone lipgloss formula is Too Faced Mirror Mirror Lipgloss. It was SUPER glossy and had a gorgeous lacquer shine! To this very day, I have not run across a formula with the incredible amount of shine it gave my lips.

I sob daily about the fact it is long, long gone.

Actually, just typing this brought tears to my eyes!

Sigh!

The sadness.

How about you?

What’s your favorite long gone lipgloss formula and if you could would you bring it back!?

Femme Couture Monster Gloss, which I believed was owned by Sally Beauty . It had a great formula and had some really cool colors, including duochromes. I was really sad when Sally DC’d them a couple years ago.

Definite Aerie Superfruit gloss or something like that. Waaay back in 2009 Aerie by American Eagle came out with a makeup line called Aerie Color and it was just the bombest diggity. Awesome textures, wonderful pigmentation, gorgeous colors and packaging. And then they discontinued it a year later! I don’t think American Eagle knew how to market the line well!

Anyways, the glosses had a great lightweight texture and came in lovely nuanced shades with decent wear and shine. Loved it!

You know what’s sad and wonderful at the same time? I never went into an Aerie store, but the day I went, I discovered their makeup line and it was getting discontinued! I went back to the store about 3 times to pick up a lot of their items.

It was a great makeup/body care line with some organic ingredients in the mix. Sometimes I wish they’d bring it back.

Urban Decay lip junkie. My fav color was jilted. I still have one tube, but it’s about 4 years old and kinda smells. I just can’t bare to get rid of it though.

I remember the Maybelline Kissing Potion in the bottle with a rollerball. It came out in the early 80’s (I am an Old) and I used my babysitting money to buy it. There was also a formula with a wand applicator, but it was not quite as sticky or strawberry scented.

    • Isabella Muse

Never heard of them but googled and came across thee bestest vintage ads 😀 I WANT them now 😀

      • Eraser

I have a collection on Flickr that I want to try & download to make a photo book. Lots of great vintage beauty ads there.

        • Isabella Muse

I love watching vintage commercials on youtube and googling old vintage beauty ads 😀

    • Eraser

I loved those too. However, my all-time favorite was Yardley Pot o’Gloss, which disappeared some time in the 80s too (I’m old too! ).

    • steph

That was my favorite too! I used the cherry every day when I was 10!

    • Dora

Not a lip gloss wearer (now) but I also remember the Kissing Potion! Pretty sure I had peppermint and strawberry. So sticky and delicious! Also Village Lip Lickers in those little tins! OK, maybe more of a balm than a gloss but a long-lost staple, for sure.

      • Nat

This is what I came here to post. I LOVED Kissing Koolers! 😀

    • Michelle Flamingo

      Frugal Cat,

I bought them, and still have one or two in my current stash! Last time I smelled one of them, it was perfectly fine. I was surprised.

    • Chris

OMG! I was just going to say that one, Dora!!! 🙂 I graduated HS in 1981. 😀

  • Justin

I loved pocket rockets from UD. Not because of the colors or formula…just for the naughty packaging

Easy, but this is from the late 80’s- Lancôme had a line of glosses named after famous actresses, my favorite was called Beige Marilyn. It was $20, I think and I was a struggling college student so I had to skrimp and save to get it- all of my money was going to tuition. Anywho, I wore it every day so I used a lot of this. I must have gone through 3-4 tubes of the Lancôme when someone I knew told me that I should look at L’Oreal glosses because L’Oreal owned Lancôme. I found one that looked identical and cost $5.99, I got it home, compared it to the Lancôme and damn if it was not identical. Shortly after that they were all discontinued. It was just the most gorgeous beige. It had a little pink, a little gold, a little gray. It was perfect and to this day I can’t find anything remotely close to this color.

    • Suzanne Peters

I loved Beige Marilyn – the only perfect beige-y shade I’ve ever had!

  • Tiffany

Jessica Simpson’s Dessert Beauty – Juicy & Slip

They just smelled so good, tasted so yummy and looked so pretty!

    • Isabella Muse

yes, yes, and yes! I’m not much of a Jessica Simpson fan but someone PLEASE bring back the entire Dessert Beauty Collection PLEASE!

  • Aretsuya

I miss the potted Benetint lip balm. Nice rosey scent, beautiful tint, moisturizing, natural sheen, and SPF 15… Sorry Benefit but the tubed benebalm just isn’t the same.

    • Isabella Muse

You know what? I didn’t realize it was gone! How sad!

  • Kristen

Naturistics sweet lips in strawberry, it tasted and smelled so good! and it came in this weird tin paint tube type container. I miss it so…
Also…although more for the packaging was a lipgloss & perfumed bubbles duo called blowing kisses from victoria’s secret it was really nice gloss and the bubbles were fun because I was and am still a child at heart. 🙂

  • Alys

How coincidental, I just commented to another beauty blogger about trying to find a dupe. I still have some of my fav gloss, I only use it once in awhile but I know soon it’ll probably turn rancid. It’s UD Stardust in Andromeda. Just perfect and super sparkly but didn’t cut up (and cause a rash) my lip.

  • Amber Blevins

L’oreal Colour Juice in Raspberry Smash. The smell was so unique and the formula reminded me of Lancome Juicy Tubes.
I also miss Revlon’s Steetwear lip gloss (the entire Streetwear line was AMAZING).

    • Lindsay

Ahhh, the Grape Soda shade was my favorite. Such a vibrant orchid color. Never found anything even slightly similar.

    • Elena

AH. Revlon Streetwear was the first gloss I remember falling absolutely in love with. It woke up the beast and now I have more lipgloss than I know what to do with.

  • Kiss & Make-up

For me it’s actually a hard question! I just couldn’t say! So sorry to hear your favorite was discontinued though, my condolences.

  • breyerchic04

My favorite was discontinued in 2011, L’oreal high intensity pigment gloss in a pot. But yay, the new Clinique macaron scrub things have what seems to be the same exact thing as their gloss/balm half!

Oh and I can kind of mourn some bonne bell gloss I had in 1996 in a sparkly pinky red that smelled like red hots!

  • VailValleyGirl

Lorac had a set of martini / drink themed lip glosses with a mirror on the side of the tube. I loved them. They were so much fun.

      • VailValleyGirl

        This was years ago.
        LORAC Croc Mocktail Collection Lipgloss.
The lip glosses came in a set. Very small size. However, the theme rocked.

  • Liz

Good question!! I miss L’Oreal Rouge Pulp. I loved the packaging and the colors. It was perfect. The smell…I wish I had some!!

    • Jules

Me, too!! Although they didn’t really look very glossy on my moisture-sucking vampire lips. Always had the dark Berry & light pink in my purse in the early 90s!

  • Soup

Clinique potted lip gloss was my favorite. The tube glosses just don’t compare at all. When I worked for Clinique and they were changing over from pot to tube we had 10 Air Kiss left, I bought every one and still have 2 left. Too much waste in the tube, you could get every last bit out of the pot…sigh.

    • Jules

Yeah!! This was the first gloss I ever owned. They had this gorgeous deep berry shade–can’t remember the name. I can smell/taste it in my head right now, tho!!

  • Lindsay

My absolute favorite gloss of all time was L’oreal Glam Shine in the shade Diva. Such a unique beige-mauve color with silver sparkle, and it really amplified the lips. I can’t tell you how many times I repurchased it until it was discontinued. I love the entire line, but that shade in particular I’ve tried to replicate for years and years now with no luck. Sigh. I was also a fan of Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss in Peach Petal. I was devasted when Revlon reformulated the glosses a few years ago and discontinued nearly all the shades. That shade was beyond beautiful.

  • Z

Tokidoki prisma lipgloss! Especially in the color monkey pirate, I bought lots of backups after they went out of Sephora lol!

    • Isabella Muse

YES YES YES! 🙂 I forgot about those! They are my fav! I still have two unopened haha!

  • Jules

Ok, this isn’t the best, by far… But I miss the old wet n wild lip glosses from the 80s. I remember wearing them in middle school–it was only $1, so easy to buy with my babysitting money! It was a light pink, craaaaazy frosty, goopy & thick, and had an awful plastic/fruity taste. It looked awful. I miss it so much.

  • Marcia Ferrell

Believe it or not, Mabelline lip gloss. The only one I liked was called Nude Flash. Great shine and color payoff. Was selling on eBay for quadruple the price after it was discontinued.

  • Lorraine M

Maybe not the best but for nostalgia I really miss the Covergirl Wetslicks Amazemint. I think I first saw them on ANTM and I remember wearing them to highschool and my early collage years, so around 2007-2011. I had a few colors and it was pretty much all I would wear. I loved the minty taste and they looked pretty. They weren’t too sticky and didn’t last long but I loved reapplying it cause it smelled so good. I had one of the other Wetslicks but without the minty taste I didn’t like it.

  • Gabrielle

I miss Dior Plastic Shine. They made it in some super shades, but my faves were their deep red and the black. Oh how I long for it to come back.

  • Miss_Silk

Kat Von D Painted Love lipgloss in Lolita, these were thick and opaque. It looks exactly like the current Lolita studded lipstick color, but not like the everlasting liquid lipstick version. I’m not really a fan of lipgloss because they always feel too thin for my liking. However, I loved the painted love lipgloss line because they would still leave some color behind and be glossy for a few hours.

  • Amy McKay

Easy for me too. Too Faced Lip Gloss in Frosting. Just suspended glittery lusciousness that I miss every day. The form was a standard lipstick cylinder in black and white that you rolled up and rolled back down. Still get misty thinking about it. Frosting!!
