NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream Review & Swatches
NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream ($7.50) are a new metallic lip cream that launched in 11 shades earlier this Summer. I tend to shy away from metallic lipglosses and lipsticks as I tend to look like unusual with them on, kind of like a robot gone horribly wrong!
But, count me curious, I really wanted to give NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream a try and although a majority of the shades I wasn’t really willing to wear (I’ll wear purple lipstick and red lipstick but metallic purple lipstick gives me pause), I did, at least fine three to love.
Here’s my thoughts!
NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream is a formula I didn’t really love but I can see it being terribly popular with many makeup users. But for me personally I didn’t really fall in love with!
These come packaging in a 0.13 oz barrel with a little domed diamond topper and an attached sponge applicator. The packaging on a whole looks a little like MAC Dazzlelass. It’s a nice presentation and the colors are vividly display within the clear barrel.
The formula is a heavy, goopy lip cream that applies fairly smoothly but in order to get that smooth application excess product needs to be wiped off the applicator with a tissue. I find direct application from the tube challenging since the applicator saturates with a ton of gooey lip cream. These look best with a thin layer on lips as too much tends to fall into my natural lip lines while looking very uneven and super sticky and uncomfortable to wear. More is less, trust me on this. Even when wearing a thin layer I find the formula is quite tacky and sticky with absolutely no set or dry down. These aren’t like the Milani Amore Matte Metallic Lip Cremes which wear for 7 to 8 hours. You’ll get about four hours from these and they do easily transfer for when sipping from a cup or a straw. Thankfullythe fact they don’t dry down works to my advantage as I experienced no migration or feathering issues nor cracking or dryness from the formula. They do have a nasty way of wearing away because as they fade since the color moves from my inner lips towards my outer lips so, I end up with a bad ring around the mouth kind of look. They also leave a good deal of shimmery iridescence on my lips as they fade which is difficult to wipe off. If you decide to wipe them completely off at some point, they also leave behind a good deal of shimmery residue that’s very sticky and glue-like on lips. I find applying and layering with clear lipgloss goes a long way at helping these problems out.
If you’re willing to deal with the problematic formula, these have an intense just poured liquid metal look on lips with a gorgeous foiled finish. They are also packed with incredible pigmentation.
NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream aren’t going to be a formula everyone loves but I can’t deny they give lips a vibrant pop of color that’s quite extraordinary! Too bad the formula is such a pain!
