My Skin Looked It’s Best When I Was Using This Skincare

skincare

Fill in the beauty blank, “My skin looked it’s best when I was using this skincare_________________________.” Have you recently stopped using skincare that really made your complexion look awesome? Maybe you ran out of and decided to use something you already have rather than buy it again? Or maybe it’s too expensive and you didn’t want to re-indulge? Or perhaps you decided you wanted to honeymoon with a new product.

Which skincare item or collection have you stopped using that made your skin looking amazing?

I test a lot of different skincare out and I deeply regret the day I stopped using Philosophy Miracle Worker Pads and Miracle Worker Moisturizer. The pads don’t jive well with a lot of different skincare I’ve been testing out the past year so, I eliminated them from my skincare diet while I test other products out. I ran out of Miracle Worker Moisturizer which I used in the evening and I replaced it with the newer Miracle Worker Overnight Moisturizer which I hate but feel inclined to finish off before I repurchased the original again.

Le sigh!

Such chaos.

I love beauty blogging but sometimes I find it hard to stick to skincare routine when I’m busy testing such a wide variety of products.

Moral of the story, I need to get back to my beloved Philosophy routine because my skin looked its very best when I was using the Miracle Worker Collection.

How about you?

What skincare have you stopped using that really worked for you?

Why did you stop?

Do share!

Philosophy works best for me too. I do wish they wouldn’t discontinue products so often tho. The orig. when hope is not enough pink moisturizer was the best!!!!

The Peter Thomas Roth products are fantastic. Expensive but I will go back to them sometime. I hope.

I indulged in the Bliss Micromagic scrub, it did wonders for my chin acne but when I ran out I convinced myself that something cheaper would work just as well… I lied.

Lancome Visionnaire skin corrector. I really saw a difference in my skin tone and I swear my pores shrank! But I stopped using it after my bottle ran out and I’m trying to use all of my other skincare products before purchasing anything new.

Eager to hear from people with large/congested pores, tendency toward acne, fine lines, age spots. Muse I love you but I wish our skin types were more similar! I think that Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid is the best thing for my skin (the one in the white bottle, can’t remember what line it is exactly, skin balancing maybe?) But I’m sad to say, with all my trial and error, I have yet to identify a product that truly makes my skin look the way I want it to look. I also do well with Laura Mercier Infusion de Rose oil, when I get dry/irritated patches.

    • Isabella Muse

Aw sorry Em! I always wish I could have more access to recs for combo and oil skin types!

I have similar issues, Emily, and also use Paula’s Choice 2% BHA serum. Based on an article that I read, which was authored by a dermatologist, I recently bought an azelaic acid serum. It is commonly used to treat rosacea, and is antibacterial (helps with blemishes caused by bacteria in those congested pores), hyperpigmentation spots, and redness. I just started using it, so I can’t tell you whether or not it is working, but It is supposed to be safe for sensitive skin and I have not noticed any irritation, even while using it with BHA, 1% retinol serum, and 20% vitamin C serum, so it can’t hurt!

Hi – I have all of the above too, and Pixi Glow Tonic really made a difference for me.

    • Jennifer

Emily-I have combo skin that is prone to acne, fine lines, and large/congested pores too. Paula’s Choice has really been my go to since January. I got the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Gel Exfoliant back in January and I have used it since then. I think it is one of the best things I’ve ever used. Once I had such good luck with that I looked at their recommended skin regiment and bought Resist Weightless Advanced Repairing Toner, Resist Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum, and Resist C15 Super Booster. The last 3 I only added about 2 months ago but I am super impressed. My skin has improved to the point I occasionally leave the house without foundation.

In full disclosure I do use Epiduo at night which is a prescription from my dermatologist.

Definitely not saying my regiment is a one size fits all but I thought I’d throw out there what works for me since we have similar skin issues.

Glamglow Youth Mud microdermabrasion, followed by Lancôme Visionnaire serum, then Lancôme Renergie moisturizer. All of these products used together make my skin super smooth and glow-y lol. Once I almost forgot to put on foundation before using my other makeup, my skin was so smooth. 😀

    • Leslie

Oops…misunderstood the question. I haven’t stopped using those products. I LOVE them. I can’t name any skincare products that I have stopped using….been using Lancôme for years.

  • Gillie

I was using the L’Oreal Age Perfect Glow Rewewal Oil for a while, and it made my skin so soft and lovely. I think it fell into my bedside garbage right before garbage day, though, because it’s gone on walkabout. 🙁

I used a Clinique acne product with 2% salicylic acid in it for years and then stopped to try something else. My skin just didn’t look the same! When I decided to go back I found that the product had been discontinued. I’m now using Paula’s Choice with the same ingredients and things are going well.

I’ve always wondered about Philosophy skin care! I may need to try the ones you mentioned.

Origins Zero Oil !….i just now ordered my cleanser & moisturizer again, i also have been using a variety, maybe its because i haven’t stuck with just one ? because of curiosity of what is out there & the samples i receive from ipsy..etc.. but origins has been the best for my difficult acne or i think anyhow lol….i absolutely love trying different products but unfortunately have had no luck as good as the zero oil line from origins…

I haven’t stopped using my best product YET but I will as we head into Fall & Winter. On a whim I picked up the Benton Aloe Propolis Gel from Memebox because it sounded great for my oily skin with lots of redness and large Pores. I started using it as my last step morning and evening about the beginning of June and holy crow!!! My skin looks SO GOOD this summer, no breakouts, no shine, no extra oil (even with all these heatwaves) and it feels so smooth and matte even when I’m not wearing makeup. Oh and my redness has been GREATLY reduced! It’s just been a wonderful product for me, I love how light and refreshing it is…..do I sound like a commercial? Unfortunately I don’t think it will give me enough hydration in the cold, dry weather so I’m already trying to figure out what to do when the snow flies, maybe I can incorporate it somehow. I think it will be my go-to warm weather moisturizer from here on out though.

Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid, and CevaVa cleansers. Every single time I stray (especially from the cleansers) my skin starts to revert back to teen years. I try and only test one product at a time so I can tell what’s working.

I guess I have dry skin like Muse. Except, my skin is super duper dry and I have this strange problem that my own flaking skin cells and natural body oils are what clogs my pores (maybe because my pores are very small???). When I put on skincare, I have to use an oil, lotion and a cream at the same time otherwise I get literal dandruff looking skin on my face. Weird.

Anyway, the product I had stopped was an older inexpensive brand called ‘Alpha Hydrox”, the original one. They kind of stopped selling it in drugstores and grocery markets. But I recently discovered it again online. I find it is the best thing to work on my skin as a base under my lotions and creams to get rid of my excess skin (plus I literally can exfoliate my face daily on top of that). I think they took it off because on average skin, it can burn. But on me it actually works great.

Would seriously like to know if anyone else has this problem? I feel so alone. And what is even weirder is I am ALWAYS drinking fluid (mostly water with bit of green tea). I drink at 2 times the daily recommended amount. Of course I have to go to the bathroom all the time too. :/

You know, I’ve never really found a product that my skin looks its best in. That’s likely partly because I have pretty good skin to begin with (I could skip all of my skincare routine, including washing my makeup off, for several days in a row without any noticeable consequences), but also because my biggest skin gripes (large pores and hyperpigmentation) are hard or even impossible to correct with normal skincare.

  • Terri Wells

I ran out of Ole Hendriksen Truth Serum so I substituted with a drug store brand vitamin C. I definitely noticed a difference in clarity and radiance. I highly recommend it!

  • Kristin

I loved Pixi Glow Tonic. My skin looked absolutely amazing! But when I tried to reorder I experienced craptastic customer service like I never have before. It’s like they truly wanted me to never again purchase their products, and so I won’t. Pity. It really is fantastic.

      • Kristin

But they still would wind up getting my money. I’m not one to carry a grudge – I have a hard time staying mad/remembering why I’m mad. But this incident was seriously so egregious that I’m still fuming months later. Great skin is not worth sacrificing my self respect!

  • Annie

Peter Thomas Roth Line Smoothing Toning Lotion actually thickened the skin under my eyes in spite of stress-related sleep deprivation, and now I have no lines under my eyes!

        • Annie

It’s the clear, more liquid-y one that has gold flecks. The texture is akin to the essences found in most Korean sheet masks, and includes hyaluronic acid, which means after it absorbs, I like to pat on extra water for hyaluronic acid to bond to my skin.

  • Monique

Paula’s Choice all the way. The only thing I use that’s not from her line is my daytime moisturizer, which is First Aid Beauty, and my prescription tretinoin cream (0.025%) from my dermatologist. I’ve been eliminating all fragrance from my skincare because I really feel that exacerbates my redness and sensitivity.

….. Perricone MD Re:Firm for eyes and face (kind of serums / daily treatments) . Both were included in a QVC UK today special value set I purchased about 3/4 months ago. Have been using both every morning in my skincare regime since and my skin and eye area looks and feels great.

I think I have 2 more applications of the face treatment but thankfully still about half the RE:Firm Eye treatment left. The latter hasn’t officially launched in the UK yet.

Both are circa 100 each so not sure I can justify repurchase except it has been great on my skin. I didn’t take away on holiday for 2 weeks and can feel a difference using it again now am back. Sort of convincing myself to rebuy!!

Do you think the pads in the new Loreal line (Bright or Reveal or something) may rival the Philosophy ones? (Fingers crossed!)

  • Ashley

La mer and aveeno, ones high end, the other is a drugstore staple.
Was not impressed with the pixie glow tonic, it didn’t do anything, there are much better products out there.

  • Powell

I love all things Philosophy. Bathroom us full of it. My mom swears by these pads. I help her stock up during Sephora vib.

  • Pamela

In just read the latest in my in box. I all of a sudden got that kind of skin! I’m usually just oily in the T Zone but all of a sudden flaky on my cheeks

I bought Nip and Fab. The face wash, pads and facial cream. It’s really changing my problem for the good!
