What Suicide Squad Teaches Us About Being Beautiful
I would like to briefly pause for a moment and muse about the fact that Jared Leto as Joker in Suicide Squad was mind blowing. This might be my fan girl speaking for me so, please take that into consideration while reading this. I’ve actually always been a Jared Leto fan I mean hello, Jordan Catalano? I’m particularly a fan of Thirty Seconds to Mars! I’ve seen them in concert a few times and they are amazing to say the least.
If you asked me who “my” Joker is, I’d instantly tell you Cesar Romero. When I was quite young I remember rushing home from school to watch reruns of the 1960’s Batman Show on channel 9. To this day, I can recite every line from the series. I swear it and Doctor Who reruns on PBS we’re my gateway drug into the realms of geekdom.
A lot of hate reigned down on Warner Brothers, DC Comics, and the Suicide Squad movie upon its release and I see and understand why and I can even tear it apart for certain things myself. But I can’t deny I enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed Harley and Joker’s appearance and relationship. I had my doubts about Harley’s casting but they were quickly erased. Now, the movie doesn’t quite get Joker’s relationship with Harley down right but lord knows, Jared Leto stole the show in the very few scenes he was in. The makeup, the wardrobe, the grill, everything about Jared’s Joker was unique and brilliant. My favorite Joker has always been Cesar Romero but damn Jared is about to dethrone him.
But I digress, this post isn’t abut Joker.
It’s about what Suicide Squad teaches us about being beautiful.
Ahh be prepared for corniness.
Ya know, blogging isn’t easy when you look like me! I’m not the beauty and makeup world’s “ideal” image. I’m also not exactly as handy with a makeup brush as many gurus and bloggers out there are. This is the fun part though, I don’t care. I know, I typed that out loud! GASP!
I’ve always been fairly comfortable being me! I don’t want to be like everyone else. Mind you, I wouldn’t mind being taller…
I’m just saying Cass Elliot pretty much sums up my philosophy on beauty blogging pretty well!
No, but seriously.
The point of this post is to remind you that you’re beautiful! Short, tall, skinny, fat, bad skin, good skin, brown hair, blonde hair, blue eyes, brown eyes, black, white, green, yellow, you’re all beautiful.
The corniest and cutest scene in Suicide Squad is when all our villains are sitting at a bar downing shots as the world ends outside and Harley’s points out how beautiful they are on the outside but how ugly they are on the inside after they share some of their background stories. She’s brazen enough to turn to Killer Croc to tell him, “Except you, you’re ugly inside and out!” To which he replies very confidently, “I’m beautiful”!
Remember you’re beautiful no matter what the the beauty world says!
Happy Weekend beautiful people! Stay cool in this humid weather!
