What Suicide Squad Teaches Us About Being Beautiful

jared joker

I would like to briefly pause for a moment and muse about the fact that Jared Leto as Joker in Suicide Squad was mind blowing. This might be my fan girl speaking for me so, please take that into consideration while reading this. I’ve actually always been a Jared Leto fan I mean hello, Jordan Catalano? I’m particularly a fan of Thirty Seconds to Mars! I’ve seen them in concert a few times and they are amazing to say the least.

If you asked me who “my” Joker is, I’d instantly tell you Cesar Romero. When I was quite young I remember rushing home from school to watch reruns of the 1960’s Batman Show on channel 9. To this day, I can recite every line from the series. I swear it and Doctor Who reruns on PBS we’re my gateway drug into the realms of geekdom.

A lot of hate reigned down on Warner Brothers, DC Comics, and the Suicide Squad movie upon its release and I see and understand why and I can even tear it apart for certain things myself. But I can’t deny I enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed Harley and Joker’s appearance and relationship. I had my doubts about Harley’s casting but they were quickly erased. Now, the movie doesn’t quite get Joker’s relationship with Harley down right but lord knows, Jared Leto stole the show in the very few scenes he was in. The makeup, the wardrobe, the grill, everything about Jared’s Joker was unique and brilliant. My favorite Joker has always been Cesar Romero but damn Jared is about to dethrone him.

But I digress, this post isn’t abut Joker.

It’s about what Suicide Squad teaches us about being beautiful.

Ahh be prepared for corniness.

Ya know, blogging isn’t easy when you look like me! I’m not the beauty and makeup world’s “ideal” image. I’m also not exactly as handy with a makeup brush as many gurus and bloggers out there are. This is the fun part though, I don’t care. I know, I typed that out loud! GASP!

I’ve always been fairly comfortable being me! I don’t want to be like everyone else. Mind you, I wouldn’t mind being taller…

I’m just saying Cass Elliot pretty much sums up my philosophy on beauty blogging pretty well!

No, but seriously.

The point of this post is to remind you that you’re beautiful! Short, tall, skinny, fat, bad skin, good skin, brown hair, blonde hair, blue eyes, brown eyes, black, white, green, yellow, you’re all beautiful.

beautiful

The corniest and cutest scene in Suicide Squad is when all our villains are sitting at a bar downing shots as the world ends outside and Harley’s points out how beautiful they are on the outside but how ugly they are on the inside after they share some of their background stories. She’s brazen enough to turn to Killer Croc to tell him, “Except you, you’re ugly inside and out!” To which he replies very confidently, “I’m beautiful”!

Remember you’re beautiful no matter what the the beauty world says!

Happy Weekend beautiful people! Stay cool in this humid weather!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Ok, I haven’t commented on your blog in a long time, but I feel compelled to now.
You are very beautiful, inside and out. Your blog is one of several I turn to when wanting to check out a review on a new product.
Are you instagram “fake-perfect”? No. And Thank God. I can’t trust a 20 year old who will filter the crap out of herself, and apply ss many fake lashes, that she looks exactly the same as every other 20 something’s pics.

You serve up realness. But it is also beautiful realness.
I wish more were like yours.

This isn’t to say I’m having major envy of you right now. I’m a Jared stan, but I haven’t been able to see 30 seconds in concert. *cries*
I’ve even had tickets twice but couldn’t go either time. Once because the roads were too icy, and the other because I ended up having to be out of town. I hope I get another chance soooooo badly.
And I’m one of the few people that I know that didn’t say they disliked the movie. I thought it was pretty entertaining . There wasn’t enough Joker. Need more Joker!!

  • Dita

Wow thank you for this. Nothing to add here, what you said is just spot on.

  • Janessa

I was soooo disappointed in his lack of screen time in the Suicide Squad. I’ve seen 30STM a few times too. Even got my baby sister on stage with them for her 16th bday and she’s in one of their music videos with a live shot of fans on stage. I’m a cool big sister ;D

    • Isabella Muse

OMG seriously? Send me a link I’d love to see that haha! I was too, but the ones he was in, he stole the show!

  • Samantha Brady

I’ve lurked on your blog for two years, but this post made me want to comment. Though I wish the Joker was in the movie more, what I did see was amazing. I couldn’t agree more with what you’ve written!

P.S.- One correction though. Suicide Squad/WB is DC Comics, not Marvel!

    • Isabella Muse

My fingers think faster than my brain apologies about that 😀 def knew it was Marvel but had DC on the brain ;-D agreed! I wish it was more but what I did see was darn amazing! Thanks for popping in today to comment!!!!!!!

Wonderful post. I love that you found your confidence when you are younger. It took me until my 40s time really love me. And yesss.. I loved Jared’s joker. He is my favorite:)

    • Isabella Muse

  • Lily

This is such a lovely post. I recently watched the film and completely agree with your comment on Jared as Joker, I think he was so amazing and I only hope that they take advantage of him and bring out a film based around his role, I also think Margot was made for the role of Harley after watching the film. But the fact you picked up on something so delicate and precious in the film is beautiful, so many people are coming out of that film and not actually realising this message so I am so glad you shared this. X

    • Isabella Muse

aw glad you caught it too Lily! I thought it was rather a cute scene in the film!

  • Cassia M

Jared is the best joker ever. His lines are sooo good in this movie. Too bad he isn’t the focus on suicide squad so I can’t wait for a joker-Harley movie.

    • Isabella Muse

I wish he was the focus too because he stole every scene he was in! I can’t wait to see him with the Bat!

  • Amy Amethyst

Muse, you are beautiful! And you are very real and honest, which I love. Even though I haven’t been following beauty blogs as much lately, I still get your emails and check out your blog. I read reviews of products I have no interest in, just because I love your personality and humor.
