The Japonesque Velvet Touch Eyeshadow Palette ($38) is a new Fall 2016 eyeshadow palette that contains six silky smooth matte natural, nude eyeshadows. I know we’ve been chatting Holiday the last few weeks but let’s keep in mind we are still smack in the middle of Fall and now is a good a time as any to rave the Japonesque Color Velvet Touch Eye Shadow Palette to you. Because I truly believe this will be the best $38 bucks you spend on an eyeshadow palette this season.

I hate to say it but I’ve been veering more and more away from shimmer and sparkle eyeshadow lately and have been embracing a lot of nude, natural matte eyeshadows. But let’s face it, not all mattes are created equal! Don’t get me wrong matte eyeshadows have evolved so much in the past ten years. I remember a time when I associated mattes with dry, dense, patchy formulas. Nowadays, many mattes are soft, silky, and way easy to apply. But I still go into matte purchases with a bit of trepidation. But don’t worry, the Japonesque Velvet Touch Eyeshadow Palette is a no brainer purchase that’s packed with soft, velvety eyeshadows that have a buttery texture which blend flawlessly.

Shades included:

  • French Vanilla
  • Burnt Orange
  • Dusty-Mauve (mid tone neutral)
  • Smokey Plum (dark tone)
  • Soft Warm Brown
  • Soft Khaki Taupe
  • Warm Chestnut (warm neutral)
  • Deep Neautral Brown

These eyeshadows come housed in a black, sturdy cardboard compact with a full size mirror and a flip top. The packaging is very professional and makeup artist-like in appearance. Inside you’ll find six 0.5 oz eyeshadows. My photos look rather dull but the shades are quite rich and warm looking in reality. I think the shades swatch rather poorly but they applied beautifully on lids with excellent pigmentation. The formula is where the real raving begins. These shadows are like butter! They have a velvety texture that applies smoothly on my lids with an airbrushed finish. It’s really odd as I felt like the eyeshadows swatches rather poorly but the texture actually applies like a dream without fall out. They are a bit powdery but this didn’t translate to dryness or chalkiness in the least!

If you’re someone who embraces a cat eye or a heavier lined eye these shades act as a great base for a beautifully lined eye. I always feel a little too made up when I’m using bright colors with heavier eyeliner. The shades in this palette are ideal for creating a nice heavier line look without overdoing your look. The colors really accentuate eyes as well! I wasn’t sure I’d be into the smokier plum or mauve but they do such wonderful things for my big brown eyes. The colors all play up my eyes beautifully.

This feels like such a timeless eyeshadow palette. Something that will never go out of style and something you will reach for often to create both day and night looks. I can see myself easily hitting pan on all these shades easily.

If you’re looking for a pro palette with an excellent round up of nude, natural shades that apply flawlessness and accent eyes beautifully, the Japonesque Velvet Touch Eye Shadow Palette is the way to go!

Ditto everything you said! Never used Japonesque before but I caved when I saw all-matte. Glad I did.

I agree with you! This is a great palette and there is quite a bit of product for the price.

I am so glad you reviewed this one! I was in my local Ulta 2 weeks ago and pleasantly surprised by this palette. The color adheres to the skin so well and not totally flat. Personally I don’t enjoy matte shadows that are too soft and powdery (and as a result, lots of fallouts), but this one seem to be just right. It’s more powdery than some firmly pressed mattes (say the Viseart 01), yet the shadows do not sheer out to nothing (or worse, muddy) nor chalky-looking.

My thoughts exactly. They have the smoothest finish! Very soft, silky but they have an almost airbrushed quality! I really like this one!

Oh wow! I think I will haul. What do you guys think of the lasting power of these shadows?
