Chanel Rouge Contraste Illusion dOmbre Eyeshadow ($34)is a new, limited edition Illusion dOmbre Eyeshadow that launched with the Chanel Fall 2016 Makeup Collection. I love that Chanel continues to bring out seasonal shades llusion dOmbre Eyeshadow but I hate that most of these shades I fall in love with and they end up being available for a limited time! For example, the shade Fatal is one of my favorite shades but sadly long gone!

Le sigh!

Most people commonly reference L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow when it comes to the Illusion dOmbre Eyeshadow but personally I don’t really see how the two are anything a like. These have a spongy texture that do not retain their shape and are much like Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in the fact they have a moldable, clay like texture after the initial layer is swatched away. I typically find the texture very easy to work and would call the formula part cream and part mousse with an easy to blend texture that doesn’t crease or fade easily. These used to come with a slanted eyeliner brush but they now include a sponge applicator for application. But I personally use a finger as that’s the best method for applying and blending them.

Rouge Contraste is a dark bark-like burgundy brown with a matte finish. I’m so sad because this actually didn’t apply as smoothly as most Illusion dOmbre Eyeshadows I own! It’s a bit dry which results in a patchy application but a little time, patience, and love will get it on your lids smoothly enough. I think you can clearly see how patchy it is on my arm in this post. The color is perfect for smoking out across the lash line but this too also takes time and patience because the color doesn’t always want to cooperate. the good news is it works out quite well once in place and doesn’t have any creasing or fading issues. I love how it accentuates my browner eyes as well.

Chanel Rouge Contraste Illusion dOmbre Eyeshadow is one of the more unique and darkest shades I’ve seen from Chanel and the color proves a little testy to work with but once on it looks delightful!

Your swatch looks similar to an Armani Eye Tint in maybe Leather Smoke? These might be nice for someone that needs something a little “creamier” on the eyelids. What do you think?

Nah, if I’m going to pay 30+ dollars for a single eyeshadow it better perform like a total champ! I’d rather spend a couple bucks more for a Lorac or Urban Decay palette!

Wow, it’s a lot sheerer than I thought. I completely skipped over the entire collection when it launched, probably because reddish tones don’t look great on me.

I really liked the red, it was unique for Chanel also not a lot of brands do red so, I jumped on the quad! This one is lovely but it is sheer and is patchy so TLC is required for application!

Dear Muse, don’t be too sad. I was lucky enough (???) to get the red shade and I wore it once and had to return it. There was something in the eyeshadow, that caused serious allergic reactions in my eyes. They simply couldn’t stop crying and were itching. I’m thinking of some sort of carmin or so. Way too expensive for something like that.

No, I meant the Illusion d’Ombre Long-Wear Eyeshadow in Rouge Brule (128). Such a great color and really nice texture. I was really falling for it… 🙁

Oooo! I got ya sorry! 🙁 That’s a nice shade too! a shame it caused a reaction 🙁 but good to know as I’ll avoid it!

i got the red illusion d’ombre shade when it first came out and i’ve been really liking it. i wish i bought the quad tho, but i heard the quad that came with the collection is going to be permanent. i hope so! also, my illusion d’ombre came with the slanted brush, but i kinda wish i got the applicator you got!

the quad is delicious and still available if you want (I think someone told me it was going to be perm too!)! It was weird I got a sponge as I normally get the slanted brush too which I always thought was puzzling as I don’t use it!
