Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Honeyed Apple Perfume Oil is one of several limited edition Halloweenie 2016 fragrances that launched earlier last month to celebrate the Fall/Halloween season.
I love the scents of Fall and crisp, tart apple is particularly a favorite of mine. I actually like it best when some of my favorite indie fragrance brands take apple and combine it with a host of other notes like caramel, marshmallow, spices, and gourmand fragrances. Straight up apple is lovely but combine it with something else and you have my interest instantly.
In this case, the Lab took deliciously sweet Fall apples and combined it with golden honey.
How’s it smell?
Like Fall, of course! This is an ideal layering scent. If you’ve a perfume cocktailer you’ll love how well Honeyed Apple layers will your other Fall scents.
In the bottle, this is a crunchy Honeycrisp apple. No tartness here, only sweet, juicy apple notes! It’s a fresh picked off the tree apple scent that’s slightly ripened by the warm Indian Summer sun. It’s crunchy, sweet, and full of juiciness. In some ways it reminds me of an apple scented shampoo! The Lab combines it with a touch of golden honey that gives it even further sweetness. On the skin wet, it’s a crunchy very sweet apple scent with a tiny bit of honey in the background. As it dries down it smells exactly like the perfect Honeycrisp Apple scent! Mind you, it’s all sweetness and none of the tartness that you’d experience from say a Granny Smith. As it dries down and within a few hours of the wear the apple is still there but the honey warms up and a slight vanilla muskiness develops. I think the scent shines most at the dryness as a slight warmth begins to show and the sweetness dies away to develop into a sultriness that wasn’t there on the initial application.
Add your favorite spicy or caramel scent to this and it’ll truly pop!
