Catrice Velvet Matt Lip Cream ($6.99) are a delightful creamy liquid lipstick formula enriched with Vitamin E that provides opaque color in a soft, creamy mousse-like formula that hugs lips in moisturizing color without the typical dryness from a matte finish.

As someone who really isn’t into mattes I’ve had to adjust lately because matte, well, it’s everywhere. Blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, you name it and matte everything is on the rise. But adjusting wasn’t a difficult task because more and more formulas prove to be wearable mattes. Let’s just say that matte has evolved considerably over the years.

Catrice Velvet Matt Lip Cream is proof of that.

Catrice Velvet Matt Lip Creams are available in 5 shades and come housed in a 0.11 oz barrel with an attached sponge applicator for application. If you’re a fond fan of Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor I think you’ll absolutely adore Velvet Matt Lip Cream as the formulas are quite similar.

This formula is fantastic for drier lips or for those of us that really don’t like long wearing matte liquid lipsticks. I think matte might be a little misleading although they do not contain shimmer and sparkle of any kind the finish isn’t quite the more refined one you’d get from a true matte liquid lipstick. I find them a heck of a lot comfortable and easier to apply than a traditional matte lipstick though! These have hybrid texture of a gel that has a whipped mousse texture that applies very easily on lips and leaves behind lightly hydrating and cushy opaque color on a single swipe. They apply and feel like a lipgloss with a hint of a shine during the initial application but have the pigmentation of a lipstick. The finish sets to a semi-matte one within a few seconds of application but never dries down fully to a drier, stiffer matte. Through the entire four hour wear the color remains pleasantry lightweight and lightly hydrating. This my friends, is the matte formula I like! The color remains on my lips without migrating or feathering and doesn’t migrate to the inner corners of my mouth nor does it stiffen, dry up, and crack over time the way a more traditional matte long-wearing formula is prone to doing. Needless to say, these are incredible comfortable to wear! They do have a vanilla-like flavor and fragrance that should be taken into consideration for sensitive users.

All in all, Catrice Velvet Matt Lip Cream isn’t exactly the bulletproof, difficult to remove formulas we are currently seeing in lipstick land today. This formula takes things to a very different level with a shimmer-free formula that’s lightweight with a slight hint of shine initially that sets to a semi-matte finish with a very, very comfortable wear.

I liked these a lot and think they are an ideal pick for those of us with drier lips or those who hate 24 hour wear long wearing lipstick formulas!
