Kat Von D Pastel Goth Eyeshadow, Colourpop Doing Pressed Shadows, Dogs and Cats Living Together, Mass Hysteria

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Mass hysteria on the makeup front today as Kat Von D blows up the Internet by posting a short video of her new Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette. What’s the inside look like? Who the hell knows but people are still trying to grasp the fact that Kat Von D’s all goth image is about to get all cute and fuzzy with soft shades of pastels for Spring 2017. Not to mention her Too Faced Better Together collaboration which also nearly broke the Internet earlier this month when it went live on the toofaced.com site with “coming soon” splashed all over it.

Slay us all now.

If this news isn’t enough there’s more.

The first ever Colourpop Pressed Eyeshadow Palette is set to launch December 26th! GASP! I really love Colourpop Eyeshadows but I’ve actually been leaning towards embracing their matte shades more than their shimmer ones. The shimmer one tends to be a little too frosty on me sometimes. I LOVE their mattes though and this new pressed palette looks like it contains a good deal of mattes. Mind you, I’m not terribly excited about the shade line up as it’s a little too cloudy for me but this could open the flood gates to an entirely new line of pressed shades from Colourpop and knowing Colourpop they’ll likely be as cheap as chips!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. That KvD Pastel Goth has got me in a tizzy! I have a real weakness for her products (with the exception of that Serpentina palette, which did not speak to me & I think that’s for the best), and this seems too interesting to ignore. My hope/theory is that it’ll be one row of lovely pastel shades with another row of corresponding dark/grungy “goth” shades underneath (i.e., a pastel yellow with a dark gold or brown). Even if I’m way off the mark, I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’ll be as good as her MetalMattes palette!

The Pastel goth looks interesting. I never tried Kat Von d makeup before. I wanted to buy the metal matte palette but then I saw swatches of the matte shades and they seemed patchy. A lot of negative reviews. Hoping this new one has better pigmentation. Now the metal matte is sold out.

It is… Slapping the word “goth” onto something doesn’t make it so. Goth is its own subculture, and it really irks me that so many groups keep trying to hang on its coattails. I’m not saying “pastel goth” is a bad thing, but there is an entire lexicon available to name the trend without altering another.

I’m willing to bet the Kat von D palette is just going to be a “deluxe” version of the original Mi Vida Local palette (the True Romance 8-pan version), with the possible addition of a black and/or grey/silver… I know a lot of her newer followers have been begging for a re-release of the MVL Remix palette, so I’m guessing this will be a sort of compromise. I passed on the original, as I don’t do pastels, and I have the Remix palette, so I’ll most likely skip this one, too. She also did the Esperanza palette, so her doing pastels shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the younger demographic missed all of those.

I missed the Mi Vida Loca palette, and regret not buying it. I will NOT miss this Pastel Goth palette!!!

I’m most excited about that ghostbusters reference, tbh. I use that line semi-regularly and no one knows what I’m talking about! Bravo. Curious how those colourpop shadows will hold up at their price point.
