Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Blush is a new luminous blush infused with Murumuru Butter that’s available in two shade selections for Spring 2017. The blushes are an extension to the Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer that launched last year.

I have to admit upon seeing these on display I almost instantly new I wouldn’t like them. But knowing how I’m quick to judge makeup I decided I’d try them and hopefully be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. You can see in the pans that they have a pretty glow to them. This is what drew me in as I had hopes they’d give me natural color and a pretty glow.

I should have known better. I hate these, with a passion. These are more of a highlighter than a blush. Actually, one one of the shades would work as a highlighter where as the other doesn’t do much at all.

It’s actually rare for me to hate on a Physicians Formula blush formula as there are so, so many I love and use daily. Physicians Formula Argan Wear Ultra Nourishing Argan Oil Blush, Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Pearls Blush, Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker pH Powered Blush, Physicians Formula Cashmere Wear Blush, and the list of awesome Physicians Formula blushes goes on and on and on but Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Blush is the rare exception to the rule.

I’ll tell you one redeeming factor to these blushes, the fragrance! If Physicians Formula were to bottle up the scent they use in the Argan Blush and this new Murumuru Butter Blush and sell it, I’d totally buy it. This smells positively heavenly! Not great for sensitive users but I love it. It’s a tropical, coconut tanning oil scent that’s simply gorgeous!

The blushes come housed in a 0.26 oz dual compartment that contains the blush on the upper level and a the mirror and a compartment to hold the applicator. The applicator is the same one that appears in the new Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Cushion Correct + Primer Duo and while it works great with the corrector it doesn’t work as well with a powder blush. Apparently one side was created to apply the blush and one was created to blend with but I struggled applying the blush with the sponge a little bit.

If you’re in this purchase for a highlighter you’ll do alright with the shade Natural Glow which is a light beige peach with a golden luminous finish. Both shades are very, very sheer and produce absolutely no color but Natural Glow at least gives a nice glow where as the second shade, Plum Rose, is a rather muddy, unflattering grayish pink, heavy on the gray.

I didn’t love the formula here either. The blushes are a bit dense and picking up color was a chore with the includes sponge and event with a regular blush brush. You might get better millage if you swirl a kabuki in the shade of your choice. I also felt the color adhered to the drier areas on my cheeks in a rather bad, frost way.

I had hopes the Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Blush would provide natural color and a bit of a glow but sadly, these are a sheerer highlighter at best with a poor formula!

Phyrra, the plum rose color might actually work on you. I’ve seen swatches on pale, cool toned people and it looks really nice. I definitely don’t think it’s a good color for warm toned folks like Muse. (This of course doesn’t adddress the formula, but you mentioned that you love the bronzer, so these may be fine for you. j.s.)

  • Jane

It’s posts like these that make me love you Muse! I’m right there with ya at buying crap I know I won’t like, and going against my better judgement and gut instinct, only to to prove myself right. You’d thunk I’d learn by now, but NooOoooo.

    • Isabella Muse

haha Jane 🙂 I know the feeling well! I honestly, over judge everything and nit pick things apart so, I thought eh, let me try this out and not judge it too harshly, who knows it might be good? And I should have just stuck with my original thought of, “Oh this looks like crap!”

  • CAROL G.

What a shame because I love the bronzer. If they would make them more pigmented they’d be awesome because I really like the formula but I can see from the swatches they have no color payoff. I do love the smell too. These will be a skip for me!

  • Len

NOOOOO!! OH well I will listen to you and not purchase. I love the Butter Bronzer so I was sure I would love this but I don’t need any sheer blushes or highlighters that aren’t popping you know. I will pick up the Corrector Cushion though! Thanks for the recommendation as always!

I got the natural one when Ulta did the free with the bronzer purchase. I was super disappointed in the color. It does make a pretty highlight, but I wanted it to be a BLUSH!

  • Jane

I’m at a level of pale right now that I think the plum rose might actually show up nicely on me. And the gray will match my future winter pallor nicely!

  • Mint

Honestly… I’m kind of glad they suck, because I truly despise that packaging

  • Silvia

Maybe? Just maybe the Natural glow nigh work for me being very fair. Lol! I don’t have of their products only those swirled color powder correctors which I do like. I have found them Ross for super cheap price and the eyeliners are creamy soft. Recently found a huge round higlighter case with a lipgloss from Gotta’ B Urban and is to my surprise a lovely pink and so very soft! I’ll be hunting for more of these products.

  • Darijo

When I first saw these I thought “how are those even blushes? In the online pics they look barely different from the bronzers.

  • Randi MacDonald

I actually like it. I think I only paid about 5 bucks after coupons too.

  • rachel

Agreed – I was very disappointed with the this new “blush” – how anyone could use these as true blushes is confusing. I was really hoping for a nice luminous blush but these were just typical highlighters (well, the Natural Glow one) at best.

  • Silvia

Sounds like the Revlon highlighters I bought the pink and the bronze they don’t serve as blush either one too light and as highliter not happy with them either glitter shows more than any color. I did keep them though I like the container/strips how they show more than the actual product. Lol! Not much of it but I won’t be buying stuff from Revlon although one foundation I tried did well for full coverage. The Revlon Age Defying DNA one not bad actually. No show or patchy products no bueno! Waste of money.

  • Amber

Always a pleasure to read your reviews! Although, you didn’t like them, I actually bought the natural blush yesterday and used it as a highlight today and it’s gorgeous! It can actually be built up more and give a beautiful glow and my fair/light skin. Love it!

    • Isabella Muse

yay! I’m glad to hear it Amber! So long as it worked for you that’s all that matters!
