Do You Wear Makeup When You’re Sick?

sick-makeup

Do you wear makeup when you’re sick? I was actually worried about getting sick this weekend because I’m in Seattle this week and between travel, small confined spaces, and the brutal cold I was positive I’d get ill. Ironically turns out Seattle is a little warmer than New York (not by much!) and I ended up getting a cold before I left home (I started sneezing on Saturday and it just went from there).

Yuk!

I hate being sick.

And wearing makeup when I sick?

Hate it but…

I do wear makeup when I’m sick even though I don’t want to. Typically down the sides of my nose are super flaky and even scaly when I’m sick because I’m glowing my nose constantly and the area gets raw after a while. I already have dry skin but being sick seems to make it even worst. Not to mention I get brutally chapped lips when I’m ill. This all makes for messy makeup application.

If it was up to me I’d throw my comforter over my head and sleep until I feel better. But in reality, that’s not possible. Too much to do, too many things that need doing, life, work, etc…! But yeah, I’d totally not wear makeup if I could but I think I’ll scare a little child or two if I didn’t!

I typically apply the whole lot in most cases. Eyeshadow, mascara, foundation, concealer, blush, etc…..but if I’m feeling REALLY, really bad, I’ll just do a little concealer and cheek stain and call it a day.

How about you?

Do you wear makeup when you’re sick?

Do share!

    I hope you feel better!

I’ve been sick too and having had work done on house. I love my makeup but haven’t been putting it on lately because of not feeling well or not getting a chance with working in house. Only if I’m going somewhere do I put in makeup when I’m sick.

    • Isabella Muse

Thanks Alicia xoxoxo! I typically go without when I’m home too 😀

  • Cindy

If I’m going to the Dr, no way. I need them to see that I’m in dire need of meds! Otherwise if I have to leave the house it’s always full face. If I’m sick at home, no way. It’s just me staring into space lol!

  • Elisa Wolff

If I’m going out of going to work, yup, absolutely! Try to make myself at least LOOK healthy. But I definitely go minimal (BB cream, brows, and mascara). But at home sick in bed? Just moisturizer and that’s it!

  • Agona

Only when I have to be somewhere and need to look presentable. I go minimal and I’m super diligent about sanitizing and not contaminating my makeup (aka mascara gets thrown out after; lip product applied with a q-tip or whatever, never directly to lips; brush never touches pan again after it touches my face, etc).

I agree that sometimes you have to put on a little makeup and go do things you don’t want to when you feel bad. If it’s a really bad illness, like if I have a fever, I’ll stay home and not wear any makeup. But, sometimes, I have to make the best of it and work through illness. I feel guilty taking time off when I’m needed.

I’ll be honest. Only concealer. I’m super paranoid about contaminating my makeup with my germs to wear any. I’ll even keep my concealer and brush away from everything so I don’t cross contaminate. When I’m sick I couldn’t care less what people think of how I look.

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t blame you! I’m anal about it myself. I have a special set of brushes I use when I’m sick lol! I clean them but only use them when I’m sick!

    • Anne

Virginia, I’m with you. I don’t want to get my makeup germy, so I stay away from it. If I’m really sick, it’s not like I’m going to enjoy putting it on or feel pretty anyway!

      • Virginia

Anne, That’s totally true ! If they’re brave enough to come near me when I’m sick, then they can probably handle my makeup less sick face. I usually don’t wear a ton anyway (though my collection would suggest otherwise ). lol

  • Rebecca

If I’m not doing anything or going to the doctor I won’t wear makeup, but if I’m working or somewhere where I need to look relatively human I do. I have horrible under eye circles on a normal day, so when I’m sick I almost look like someone has punched me in the eyes. (and what little colour there is in my pale skin disappears completely)

If I HAVE to go to work, I will get up about 30 minutes earlier and I know I will be moving at a snails pace. I put on the minimum so I don’t look like the walking dead. I have had to go to the ER at 2 in the morning, and I don’t even get out of my PJ’s or slippers. At that point you really don’t give a damn. No make up for me anytime, unless it’s necessary. Feel better. It will pass, even though you probably don’t think it will. 😉

  • Codename Duchess

If I’m leaving the house, yes. If I’m sick, I’m already feeling poorly. Skipping makeup would make me feel even less “like myself.”

Girl….if I am feeling horrible, I do not go the extra mile and wear makeup. Mainly because I am staying home and no one is going to see me. And even if I do go out, I still refuse to wear makeup because I feel crappy and don’t care what people think. But that’s me. More power to you if you have the strength for makeup application.

Only if I have to absolutely positively be somewhere. Hope you feel better!

  • CC

It always Star with sneezing here too. I, too, am sick with a cold today, but hubby made me go out with him and I have to work this evening. So…out came the makeup. At this beginning stage, it helps me feel a little better to get moving and look decent!

    • Isabella Muse

likewise! Sneezing first and than it works into my throat and I’m done!

  • Jackie

I’m sick now…and made the effort to apply makeup today for work. I still put on makeup so that I look presentable and it kind of psyches me up for work and makes me feel (and look) somewhat normal.

  • Adrienne

I too am afraid of contamination. My eyes are normally watery if I am ill so no eye makeup and no contact lenses. Blowing my nose makes chapped foundation look worse so its usually a little Carmex on my lips and thats it.

  • Zovesta

Aww feel better soon! =( I’m super sick too. I try to avoid wearing makeup when I’m sick because 1. the germs (altho let me be real, they probably aren’t that bad given what a slob I normally am), 2. my face gets very hot and good luck getting me to seal my face with foundation!, and 3. if I’m going to see the doctor, I want them to know what exactly the deal is! I will still wear it if I have to go into a store or look presentable for something, though.

    • Isabella Muse

Thanks girl! 😀 I keep as minimal as possible and concentrate on adding as moisture as I can do my skin as I always end up being drier when I’m sick!

  • Pandora

If I’m sick I usually keep it at a minimum, no eyeshadow, liner or blush. I’ll use a couple pumps of the tinted Josie Maran Protect + Perfect and Maybelline Fit Me concealer just to make me look healthier and more alive. I’ll add a quick sweep of bronzer and use Burberry Fresh Glow Luminizer for the tops of my cheeks. I then and quickly fill in my brows, add a coat of mascara, some lip balm – and I’m good to go. Contamination freaks me out too (lol), and if the products are expensive and not in a pump, I stick to drugstore makeup while I’m sick for the most part.

  • Iris

I do. It’s more subtle than other times as I don’t feel like going all out. Just a bit of eyeshadow and lipgloss.

  • Z

Ahh you are in my hometown! Hope Seattle is treating you well, it was actually much colder last week (went down to 18 degrees last Thurs). Hope you feel better soon, drink some good coffee while you are in town :D!
I usually just wear tinted lip balm and mascara if I have to go to work sick, not going to bother wearing any face makeup since I will be blowing my nose off and it will be all over the tissues xD

    • Isabella Muse

It is! I love Seattle, truly a great city 😀 Been a while since I been so it feels fresh and new again 😀 I fear I’m not a coffee drinker lol! 😀 Thanks Z! I’m slowing getting rid of this nasty sniffle! I’m keeping the makeup minimal 😀

  • rachel

I do if I’m going somewhere but I always regret doing a full face. I like to contour around my nose and blowing my nose just twice means I have pinkish rings where my foundation and contour are gone around my nostrils. It always looks so weird.

  • Chris

Feel better soon! Generally no, but if I go outside, will wear lipstick. If my nose gets red, usually petroleum jelly helps by keeping the skin moist.

    • Isabella Muse

Thanks Chris! Feeling much better 😀 I couldn’t agree more, vaseline def helps 😀
